Anyone pick up Battle of the Bulge for iPad? I'd be interested in hearing some impressions, if anyone has it.

Played through the short scenario and got the short-circuited decisive victory for crossing the Meuse on the long one. So, I haven't gotten a whole bunch of turns in, but my impressions are quite favorable so far. Playing as the Allies in particular looks like it'll be pretty exciting and challenging.

Needless to say, the graphics and interface are phenomenal. Pretty much put on a clinic on how to make an iPad game with boardgame conventions.

how did u get a decisive victory? what path you take?

Strangeblades, I played an abortive game on Broken Forum and only got a few turns in before the Lord of Apathy and Inertia overtook us all. Since I own the game, I'd love to get more play out of it. Once I reinstall from my comp crashing, that is.

Mostly pushes through the North and Center-swinging-North. Big things that helped were bypassing rather than fighting the elite Allied infantry unit on the Northern front and getting it so I had two panzer units able to cross the river on the last turn. Having two options forced the AI to split it's efforts and it wasn't able to lock both down. Also keep in my that your primary goal is to push forward, not inflict casualties. One of my elite panzer units never even fought a battle, but he earned his keep by crossing the river.

All right, Natus. I got ya on the list with myself and one other player. Let me know when to start. Have you have upgraded your copy to the latest one?

Cross posting from the SI thread cause that's what I do.

Alright we've got four players lined up.

1) Myself

2) A guy

3) Another guy

4) And some other guy-person.

I need emails from you all. For those that have already sent me emails thanks a bunch. For those that haven't I'm gonna get ya. All new SI information will be posted at the SI thread. Go here for news about hell. http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/47951

(Triple cross-post combo!)

A new edition of ye olde small-unit card wargame Up Front is on Kickstarter, from the folks that 'started D-Day Dice and Airborne in Your Pocket.

It smashed its funding goal ages ago, and now it's all stretch rewards.

$40 gets you the base game (US vs. Ger) and all stretch rewards, $125 gets you the base game and all expansions (USSR, UK, Ita, Jpn, Fra) and all stretch rewards (and amounts in between get you the base game, expansion(s) of your choosing, and all stretch rewards). So you're looking at somewhere between 1,000+ and 2,000+ cards.

The stretch rewards are mainly other nationalities (e.g. Finns, Canadians, Poles, SS, USMC, etc), and the $200k stretch reward is a leather-bound rulebook. It's at $170k right now.

I never played the original, but I'm thinking about getting in on this, with Brits (so I can play proper Canucks) and maybe Soviets too (winter! Finns!). Deadline is January 2nd.

That's a good game, I have a copy on a shelf somewhere. I'll have to look into that.

Yeah that one does look interesting. Kinda crazy to not have a board at all.

It's fun. As I recall, you draw and then play terrain.

Anybody here played Wargame: European Escalation? I got it gifted to me in the Steam sale and I have to say that it is much more in depth than I expected at first glance there seems to be quite a bit of depth in the game.

My primary reason for asking though was to see if anybody would want to play some MP with a noob like myself, I fully expect to die.

Hey, I'm your huckleberry

I'll admit that gifting you the game is partly because I'm a festive fellow, and partly because I need someone else just as inexperienced as me with this game

Conflict of Heroes (from Matrix) has a huge update that was just posted, and there is a new three scenario demo for it. Very tasty WWII tactical combat game.

The massive update is chock full of new features, improvements, and fixes! We've taken great care to listen to our community, both those that come from the computer and those that come from the board game communities. This has helped us give Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear! an update that really shines! With the latest v1.14 update, players get the option to use the fully-implemented Classic AP system that matches the board game AP system! To match the experience, we've also added in wonderfully-detailed 2D board game-style maps in high resolution, as well as giving the same treatment to the unit chits, complete with dynamic stats!

We've also added basic campaign support, giving players the ability to advance all their surviving units between multiple firefights in new custom campaigns. A new line of sight tool has also been implemented to aid in checking to see if players have that all-important shot to the rear of a deadly Russian tank. The multiplayer lobby has also been improved for players to set game options while they're in the lobby itself.

Campaigns with carry-over unit experience! Woot!

Is it currently on sale?

It's 25% off during the Matrix winter sale. http://www.matrixgames.com/products/...!

It's got a bit of a Squad Leader vibe to it in the scale, but it does not require detailed knowledge of unit subtleties and such. Small tactical fights, about company level with squad units. It does fog of war very well, and has some meta-game elements like cards that can be used to gain special effects. So, I guess it's a blend between classic board game tactical and modern Euro-game tactical.

Unity of command is on sale on Steam for $9.99 now. Worth picking up at that price?

Absofruitly. It's a bargain at the normal price of $20. Fantastic game. It's on sale by the developer too, so buy it from them if you can! You get a steam key with your purchase, so everyone wins.

I second that. Unity of Command is fun, fast and has some teeth to it.

Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear has a demo out. From Matrix Games.

Filthy skimmer. Nice pic, though.

Man, I am a filthy skimmer. That was posted already like three posts ago. Funny enough, I have no shame.

Yes, that pic came after a brief search. It went something like this: Chits, chits, chits, overhead strategic map, chits, chits, chits, tanks. Ooo. Tanks. Thanks for tanks. So yeah, the sexiest pic was picked.

I'm just glad someone else likes the game, really.

Scenario: Matrix Games vs. Gunner's Wallet
A goodjer that should know better is downloading the demos for Conflict of Heroes and Hannibal: Rome and Carthage in the Second Punic War.

Decisive Matrix victory: Buys both games before the downloads finish.
Marginal Matrix victory: Buys both games after trying demos.
Draw: Buys one game only.
Decisive Wallet victory: Decides to just play more Unity of Command and War in the East.

Who will win?

I'm suddenly tempted to download the demo for Awakening the Bear, seeing as how I have Conflict of Heroes: Storms of Steel (the cardboard one) on the shelf and still haven't learned it yet. So that would make a good tutorial...

Is anyone playing Unity of Command multiplayer? How is it? Is it noob friendly? Just curious because I'll probably grab a copy of Unity today but I probably won't be ready for multiplayer for a while.

I like it plenty in analog form.

There's no real multi-player to speak of in the base game, as far as I know. The only provided scenario is really just a test map. With the recent release of the map-editor, that will probably change soon enough, or you could create your own.

However I believe there were a number of new scenarios added with the new DLC, Red Turn.

I haven't tried the multiplayer yet but would like to.
