Steam Winter Sale 2012 - Seriously Guys, It Was Over Two Months Ago! Move Along!

FTL, the new sparkle pony? Perhaps if you mean the game that goodjers are gifting left and right (I've already bought 3 copies for friends). However, FTL is a good game!

Yes, yes. That is exactly what I meant. Plus, whenever someone thanks someone else for getting it, they always thank them because of the number of deaths that are about to be bestowed upon them. So a thanks, and a THANKS!

Okay, not precisely Steam Sale related, but I have Steam Keys to The Basement Collection and Cave Story+ thanks to the add-ons to HB7.

What do we normally do? First non-Coffee Grinder that PMs me by the light of the full moon? I'm new at this!

Wow nice find, I didn't see this one on sale.

One hour left on Space Marine and Sleeping Dogs. Be strong Mogg, be strong.

Is FTL becoming this years Sparkly Pony?

Not until everyone is gifted a copy....which I have not been.

Well, if it's not on your wishlist...

Many thanks to SillyRabbit for To The Moon! I've been thinking about it for some time, but never quite made the purchase.

re: FTL.... comparing sparkle ponies to FTL is like comparing Ishtar to Citizen Kane. Well, okay, maybe not THAT good -- maybe Clerks? Some movie that's small, and fun, and very well-executed.

My now-standard description of FTL is "Nethack in space, with really fun combat mechanics. But there are only 10 levels, and Asmodeus is waiting at the end. Play on Easy."

Many, many thanks to Merphle for waking up to a gift of To the Moon! I'm definitely looking forward to this one, everyone says it's a gem.

Let me know how that is. It's really looks like it would scratch my FF3 itch. But I haven't been able to bring myself to bite it yet.

Anyone know how LA Noir is? I was always curious about it but never dove in.

L.A. Noire was ok. The concept of interrogating suspects and searching a crime scene for clues isn't exactly new, but it does hold a certain appeal. Unfortunately, it suffers from poor execution and uninteresting characters. I mean like flat, two dimensional characters. I couldn't bring myself to care enough to even finish the game.

Same here. LA Noire was a huge disappointment.

It falls apart when you realize that the game will unfold one way regardless of what you do. The act of police work is a facade.

If you get it right, good job. If you get it wrong, the game says, "no, idiot, it was THAT guy" and moves on in the same way.

I guess it just wasn't the game I thought it was. It's a crime solving game that doesn't give one crap whether you solve anything right or not.

Big thanks to tuffalobuffalo for the gift of Thirty Flights Of Loving!

After reading some of the comments on the Cossacks games, there seems to be quite a few issues with Win 7 and especially 64 bit.

Don't be fooled by the graphics... It has basically zero Final Fantasy-esque combat mechanics. It's a brilliant point & click adventure story told using a 16-bit graphics engine. And it can be finished within a few hours, so as to not clutter your pile.

(I'm guessing, I've successfully dodged the sparkle pony up til now).

See, now you went and said it.

They should make "Sparkle Pony" a verb. as in:

Eleima once thought that she knew the ways of the world, until that night when she was sparkle ponied and her perspective changed forever.

And thanks to Sr_Malo for Hotline Miami. Much blood will be spilled in your honor.

It looks like I'm playing the regedit game for the rest of the night on my mother-in-law's computer, though.

Just pulled out the ol' FighterStick and Throttle to test out the HAWX demo, since, you know, jets.

Boy, did I learn my lesson. I know it's more of an arcade-sim, but that thing is an flight sim like I'm the King of Siam.

PS Ubisoft games make me want to scream. (except BG&E, obviously) Is that normal?

The pile..... Dear god the pile... It grows...

I haven't seen the tiptop of my pile in years...

Thank you Ahrezmendi and JillSammich for Orcs Must Die 2! I passed the extra copy on to my girlfriend in hopes that we can withstand the invading horde together!

... and now I just received a third copy from BadKen! Thank you, but I'll have to pass it on to another GWJer(I don't have two girlfriends).

I also have a copy of Thirty Flights of Loving that had to be declined. PM me for either game, and you shall receive! Just make sure to thank BadKen if you're taking Orcs Must Die 2.

Thanks thinJ for space Marine! So cool. Can't wait to slice up orcs!

Big thanks to m0nk3yboy for FTL! With Thirty Flights of Loving on sale, I gifted a couple copies and ended up playing it for an hour—that reminded me of Flotilla, which reminded me of FTL, I realized it's on Mac, so added to the wishlist to not forget about it, and the next thing I knew, I owned it! It's a Christmas+2 miracle!

Looks like I'm getting too slow on the trigger, I missed both Mogg and Delerat.

For myself, I keep going back and forth on Xcom and Dishonored. After the gushing on the podcast, I'm sold, but do I wait for another Amazon sale, or just bite the bullet with the decent discount on Steam... Indecision!

Surprisingly I find myself with a little extra cash at the end of this month, but I also own so many things that are on sale, so I've been playing Santa Shark.

What's the word on Arma 2? I was talking to a buddy the other day and he mentioned wanting to play a more realistic combat game. No hiding in a corner to regain health, bullet sponges, etc. Will this scratch that itch?

Thanks, Mogg, for Splinter Cell: Conviction! I'm going to break a toilet with someone's face! Like Liam Neeson!

Huge thanks for Malor for Grimrock. I'm looking forward to getting back home tomorrow and installing it. It's been said plenty before, but this is an amazing community. I'll be sure to pass a few gifts of something on before the end of the sale.

Oh and I nearly forgot... I have an extra copy of Torchlight II hanging around doing nothing. PM me your email or steam community URL if you want it.

EDIT: Gone!

LA Noire? Yes, No? (Was at work all night so skimmed a few pages!)

Woah... I sent BadKen that PM and then was greeted with gift bombardment when I sat down at my computer.

Thank you to tuffalobuffalo for Thirty Flights of Lovin'

Thank you to Archangel for Indie Game: The Movie

and thanks to BadKen for Torchlight II!

I will be paying back the good deeds in the coming days <3

For $5, yes. Just don't expect an open world game, even though it's set in an open world. Decent story. Interesting experiment. Great voice acting. Amazing work with the facial animations. It's almost like part adventure game part rockstar action game.

Definitely will! My pile is getting huge, but I'll try to get to it sooner rather than later.

Me and my big mouth! Thank you, Cobble, for the magic gift that keeps giving, that is Secret of the Magic Crystal. Not sure whether I should feel appalled or actually honored that I've been tagged too. Now to find another unsuspecting victim!......

Many thanks to D_Man as well for the gift of Peggle Deluxe. Unfortunately, this night was as crappy as the others. :p Ah, the joys of motherhood! A little mindless peggling will do me wonders, I bet!

Vote CK2 for the next deal! More people need to play this!

Done!

Thanks BadKen for Orcs Must Die 2! You can be my Santa-cat-shark any day.

I almost regret getting some Clancy games instead if conviction a few days ago. It may have resulted in more fun than any two games that I bought to replay
