Planetside 2 Catch-All

Had a fun moment. We were capping tawrich tech plant or at least trying to, but we being held back while attacking the side bases. I decided to sneak up north and cap a surronding area to help cut them off from supply and provide a new direction for attack. So by myself I went to the base and it seemed like no one was there. It had only one point so I figured I'd be okay. I flip it and as soon as I do, I spot a damn Max heading to the point. I'm a light assault, maybe if I nail him with two under barrel grenades and a clip I could taking him. Probable not.

So I decide to hide right above the point. He spends the next five minutes running around trying to find me, and infiltrator joins him at one point. I flip the point and eventually he gets bored and leaves, who knows where. I pick up a sunderer park it behind the one of the side bases, which is overrun in short order. The tech plant is capped soon after. Felt great.

Cool moment i38warhawk. I'm getting better at attaching C4 to the backs of vehicles as Light Assault and I finally unlocked the underbarrel grenade launcher and I love it though last night it seemed bugged, or it was a network problem, or a hacker. It might not be the best weapon when you experience the people popping in phenomenon.

Popping in is also not a fun thing when in a Scythe, or any fighter. "Let's see, I'm sure there are enemies just ahead cause this is a big battle...Oh look, some targets just popped up, five tanks, two lightnings with skyguard, a bunch of heavies, and three Sundy's...and I'm dead now because they all started firing as soon as they saw me, which is basically as soon as I was in range."

The nade launcher is a bit iffy in two ways. It has trouble rearming and at very short range it seem to do no damage. Best to use at medium range and rearm when you have one round left. Even with all the issues I still love the damn thing. I love the idea of having c4 but two things make me avoid it. It cost 200 for one stick, which is useless, and another 500 for the second. It would also replace the level 2 medpack. Also if I wanted more ammo I'd need the explosive bandolier and I already have the health boost armor at 20%.

Ah well, I'll be playing sooner or see you on vent.

Edit: Decided to trick out my magrider. Gave it turbo and a speed upgrades. The turbo doubles your speed but only for a short while. Also takes a minute to recharge so not so great for travel. That being said it's handy in combat for dogging shots and going over hills.

Ah, that is probably it. Haven't had issues reloading though. It's sad that you have to go to a terminal to resupply, engy ammo boxes don't cut it.
Fun fact, damage to the back of tanks does significantly more damage (so try not to run from a fight unless a hill is handy); in general this is also the only place where you can sneak up on a tank to plant C4

Can somebody catch me up?
I just joined up and would like to play with the GWJ on TeamSpeak 3. What do I need to do?
I didn't see a FAQ on the front page.

thanks,

Jaya

Don't we use Ventrilo?

I was maybe misinformed. I thought Teamspeak3 was the client for Planetside2 but if its Ventrilo, so be it. Let's see, where did I put those Ventrilo config settings anyway...

That's likely your entire problem right there. That piss-poor tablet port of an OS isn't ready for prime time, especially for gaming.

Whether or not it's crappy, it's also substantially the same as Windows 7 from an OS (not user-space) perspective. As you note, there are massive numbers of crashes being reported across both systems. I spent ten minutes or so digging into the forums, and finally decided that while I'm interested in the game, it's not worth the time to get it working; my days of fighting to play a game are essentially over.

At the risk of being a filthy skimmer (I have moments to post and a number of pages to see if this has been answered), google that error. There's plenty of other people crashing on startup with that error, and it's fixable. Giving the Launchpad admin rights, maybe? You can find it through googling for sure.

If you are running windows 8 and also have a 360 controller you have to unplug it to get the game to run. Don't have any idea why this is but that fixes the game crashing when you try to launch it.

Actually engy ammo boxes DO cut it - except when the launcher bugs out and doesn't rearm, which is what master0 was referring to. Unfortunately, it seems to bug out way more than work properly, at least for me (I'd say it's rearmed properly something like once out of every 5-6 times in the 3 days I've had it).

Actually, you just need to grab DINPUT8.dll from a Windows 7 installation, and drop it into the same folder that PlanetSide2.exe is in.

Nice run you had there!

How do you get that screen to pop up? I've been doing much better recently with my engie and my overall stats are lopsided due to my rough start!

Just press TAB. The page shows all sorts of useful info.

Good to know thanks!

That "NEXT DEPOSIT" remaining time for resources is great! I've wanted that since the beginning, didn't know it was there.

I think I got pi/10 on my stats screen.

Its a shame but I kinda had to give up on the game. Aside from the random ctd, my pc was barely up to the task, framerate was really bad during any kind of decent battle. Barely playable, but really wore on my eyes after a bit.

What kind of card you got? I just bought a new one (560 Ti, or 570?) and the current one (gtx 260) runs it okay at 1920x1080.

Gunning for StylesXP can be rather productive.

After flying dcs a10 the planetside liberators almost feel like cheating.

PS2 loves CPU.

But of course; I have a Core i7 920 (don't let the i7 fool you, it's an older one). I have a budget motherboard as well. So lucky me, now that enough time's passed, when I was Best Buy yesterday I just bought the PNY memory off the shelf (I almost got the 660 Ti they had on sale, but those only have 192-bit memory interface and that's important).
It seems to be running at 1333 MHz (previously runnning at 1066 MHz) and honestly, I'm pretty sure my fps is way better, but not a lot of people on today because of Christmas.

Pi Again?

The game loves CPU and GPU. On High settings my GPU (HD 6950) will run at 99% and I'll get 50-60 at warp gate and 30-50 in battles. With some tweaks to shadows, lighting, and ao I can get it to 50-90 all the time. Playable, on bare bones setting I top out at around 160 with 65+ in battles.

At first I thought the turbo boost on a magrider wasn't that great. In a one on one tank duel though, it's a game changer. If you have a boost and your enemy doesn't they'll lose. You can turbo right past them dodging you their first shot and point your gun at their rear armor. It's cake then.

Actually got to defend at the crown, as I generally avoid it otherwise. It's a crazy area to fight in, but it gets rather dull quick. Great for earning points though. I think I earned 700 certs this break. I'm really starting to trick out my gear.

I have been spending a ton on my scythe. I'm getting close to the point where the only things left to buy are 1000 certs or just a little too expensive for what they grant.

Hey guys, haven't played yet. Downloading now. I'd like to get into an Outfit, but from their website, it looks like Quantum Dawn is full. Are there any other outfits with GWJ people?

We have a GWJ outfit now but it's pretty casual. I'm pretty sure I set it so that any existing member can invite.

Can someone invite me? Same in-game name as here.

I'm trying to get an increased number of people playing on Jaegar under the vanu with my friends and I. So far, I've attracted Radical Ans into our sexy space suits.

TheHipGamer wrote:

You have to be online to receive an invite. But if you have a bunch of people already friended up one of them should be able to do it.

im playing as VANU on soltech server. any others there?

Most of us are playing Vanu on Waterson.

I'm getting into using a Lightning with the HEAT cannon. Now that I have my gun tricked out on my engineer I think my certs from now on will go either into the lightning or the engineer class stuff.
