Yes you can be part of multiple guilds, and you can also be part of the GWJ guild without changing servers. You would still get to use chat and party up with us for dungeons, the only downside is you don't generate influence for the guild and you don't get any of the guild buffs.

Server transfers are still currently free though

Cool! I'll mention it to my buddy and my nephew Thanks!

At least for the GWJ guild we have all the amenities, and there's always a few interesting things in the guild's treasure trove to help out new players. We also to run the +exp/karma/gathering/magicfind buffs on weekends.

So, I've got a human elementalist named Nyradel (Tyrian.9412) on Northern Shiverpeaks. Currently running around the first area and trying to get a feel for how this works.

It is quite easy to get overwhelmed by accidentally clicking on a present and suddenly having 4-5 little lvl 3 guys come and destroy your face.

I'm in GWJers, and a personal one for myself(for guildbank), a personal one for my wife(working on guild bank) and will like join a personal one for my son(to get the guildbank).

How much cost and effort is it to make a guild with bank space? I hadn't thought of this possibility before, but now I'm intrigued.

The holiday presents are tough little buggers often much harder than a typical encounter. My level 80s have trouble with them too. Just know they probably aren't an ideal gage of knowing how well you're getting a feel for how things work.

My 4 year old loves to watch me click on presents and then fight the little skritt who pop out. He yells "daddy the naughty mice are stealing your present!" whenever I get knocked down. Thats about the time I tell him to go back to bed and tuck him back in before running back from the spawn point.

Heh I saw that off Reddit, and I love the fact that even some of the Writer Devs got involved.

When you see me log in and say "Quack!" in guild chat, unless I'm specifically busy with helping my wife with her story quest, I'd be glad to come help out.

And the presents...
From a warrior's point of view, other classes may handle different things better.
Skritt are pretty easy, they die fast.
Ventari(centaurs) also die fairly fast, just keep out of the red circles. Stick and move, stick and move. Try binding "dodge" to Mouse4.
Toy Soldiers(charr) can be tough, just keep moving. If you have condition removal, make sure it's slotted in your skills. (actually this goes for all of them except Skritt)
Dolls(Female Doggoes) are Female Doggoes.
Golems(rubik's cubes on meth) see Dolls
Mixed - if you see a mixed group pop out, you just have to evaluate quickly if you can take them or not. How many of which type.

Protip: You can just run in and grab the present(s) that popped out of the box without killing the toys and just run away. Yes, killing the toys *can* get you more gifts to open, but sometimes it's not worth it.

Feel free to ask for help. I enjoy the lower level zones and have some alts I'd love to work on. With the level scaling, I'll gain XP at almost the same rate I would in higher level zones. Maybe more, since groups are more efficient. Also, some story quests are nigh-impossible for some classes. Don't be afraid to bring GWJer backup.

I need to get added to the guild roster!

I'll probably be be on later tonight, but I know its Christmas Eve. Right now, I'm just exploring (getting vistas, etc).

I accidentally gained about 10-15 levels doing that. Hmm... I wonder what happens if I start at The Grove and just start heading north...
Ooh, vista! Ooh, POI! Ooh, Skill Challenge! Oh, what's this event? Oh, look, I found Divinity's Reach!
Oh, look, I'm level 60.

I don't really know how, but exploring and just doing whatever catches your eye at any given moment is GREAT for gaining levels without trying. That may be the thing I like most about GW2, followed closely by the auto-levelling system that allows me to play with my wife, no matter our level difference, no matter the zone, and still not walk all over everything, just having fun.

As an engy, the princess dolls are the only ones that give me any trouble. The golems are probably the easiest after the skritt, IMO. Like any other battle, the trick is just to stay mobile.

Welcome aboard Tyrian... sent you an invite.

I think that's the concept I'm struggling with at the moment. I'm used to casters needing to stand still while they blast stuff, and apparently I should be running around. I've got the dodge thing set for double-tap, and I can use it reasonably effectively (though my timing isn't always awesome).

The princess dolls also have a skill that gives you the "confusion" condition where you take damage whenever you use your skills and auto attack. If you dont have a means of removing conditions the best thing to do is to hit "esc" to stop attacking and wait till it wears off. It has a pretty short duration.

As for the dodging and mobility. You also have to pay attention to the mob's attacks. They usually have a tell for their huge one and that's usually the one you want/need to dodge. You need to stay mobile but also learn to use your dodges/blocks/evasion for when it will count the most.

Also, dbl tap dodge is great right up until you dodge to your death fine tuning your position on a vista or jumping puzzle

Yeah - I'd recommend getting that dodge onto a separate button/key. Once you've got that set up, practice dodging during every fight - it will serve you well as you advance, and will save you deaths.

Also, some really powerful traits center around things happening when you dodge - there seems to be one per class.

duckilama wrote:

I always turn that off in the gen settings during a jumping puzzle.

I've only had that happen to me maybe 2-4 times so far... it's not as much of an issue as you might think.

it's not so much the frequency... it's how far up that tower/mountain you are when you accidentally chuck yourself off of it

Bingo. And how bad you are at JPs and vistas.

Yeah, it only took a couple of deaths to convince me that learning to press v to dodge instead of double-tapping was worth it.

Stengah wrote:

V sucked for me compared to mouse4, once I started dodging a lot in combat.
Additionally, V is right next to B, which is the default key to bring up the WVW stats page, which can put a serious hitch in your framerate for a couple of seconds, and not far off from G, and if your guild has a lot of members, that can cause a bit of an issue.

Personal preference, but I hated trying to dodge and spending 2 seconds waiting for the WVW screen to load and dismiss it, all while taking a couple of hits to the face.
Using the "back" button on my mouse was just logical for "dodging" in my mind. Very little retraining needed.

Edited for clarity.

Hmm, usually if I hit "B" by mistake, hitting it again will immediately dismiss the window without having to let it load. I have big hands and a little mouse, so I'm constantly hitting the back button by accident, it'd probably lead to more accidental deaths if I tried it.

I re-bound dodge to left Shift. Works really well for me, and there aren't any complicating keys nearby.

Congratulations!

Yes. I'm home again after missing GW2 for a few days. Read GW: Ghosts of Ascalon while I was away and thought it was pretty good, and loved how it filled in some of the lore of the game especially the events of the Foefire (causing the Ascalonian ghosts) and Dragonbrand (causing the branded area covering a lot of the far NE part of the world map). I also picked up GW: Edge of Destiny and it seems to be a more direct tie in with the GW2 story in that it focuses on 5 main characters from each of the races personal stories (Logan, Caithe, Rytlock, Eir and Zojja).

I also got the GW2 strategy guide for Christmas and even though I have 3 level 80s now, I've gained some insight going through the professions section of the book. I've got some weapon sets I'd like to try that I've previously ignored.

I only had time to get my daily achivements tonight, which I did on my low level elementalist to try out a scepter/dagger weapon combo. I thought it'd be a different choice for that class, but I saw a couple other elementalists using the same set up in my short time playing.

Does anyone else need the Statue of Melandru skill point in Cursed Shore? It's literally the only skill challenge I have left in the entire game, and I can't get any of the other players in Cursed Shore interested in helping flip the temple so the Statue unlocks. I've been camping Cursed Shore for like three days now trying to get that last skill point.

I'd love to help and I could be online right now, but I'm only level 30 - something...

Thanks for the offer but I'm done for the night anyway. If you can hit 80 by tomorrow night, though, let me know.

Haha, with my pile being what it is? Not a chance!! Some day, though, some day....
