Random thing you love right now that doesn't deserve its own thread

Almost 10 years here, and I do the same.

All for science and a concern for her health.

Movers. And how awesome they do their work compared to if I had to move things.

Yes.

I think that being able to hire movers is one of the best parts of being a grownup.

Unless you hire these guys, that is....

Yikes! No, our movers were quite good.

This spam, entitled "Windows 8 is Fail". First, I thought it was from the hates-software mailing list, but it wasn't.

Windows 8 is a lousy Operating System. Its supposed improved performance and claims of improved battery life are exaggerrated, Windows Store is a shameless attempt to pump people for money, and the user interface changes decrease productivity. It is a poor product created for the sake of getting money from your pockets into theirs while offering you as little value as possible. Security is not much different - most exploits and malware that work for earlier Windows versions will still work on Windows 8. One thing that might not work well on it is you, because they switched the interface around so that you have new computer skills to learn. It doesn't really matter whether you want to buy it anyway, because sooner or later it will probably be forced on you by hardware manufacturers.

Windows 8 is a shameless marketing ploy, introduced just in time for the "holiday shopping season", which is another big scam. There is nothing "Holy" about it, because "Christmas" is a big lie.

Excerpts from [URL REDACTED]

"Xmas has absolutely nothing to do with God. It was originally called Yuletide, which is a pagan festival from the Babylonian Mystery religion of SUN worship. The Babylonians were merchants (they were the originators of the "Market-system" which is condemned by God) and they used Yuletide to sell their merchandise because, like today, it made them lots of money."

"SANTA CLAUS is an anagram for SATAN."

"The fact that the three kings came to pay homage, and brought gifts of great wealth, was used by Satan to give, to those who perverted the teaching, the idea to continue and even increase the sales of their merchandise (a great marketing-exercise for them). So the virgin-birth was hijacked and corrupted into a time to make lots of money, using the ultimate in "high-pressure sales techniques", which was to falsely use God's Son's name, in order to embarass people, who couldn't afford to buy gifts, to go into debt or steal in order to buy their merchandise. By doing this the rich merchants ruin the lives of the poor, driving them further into debt and poverty or crime, whilst making themselves richer and richer."

Do you want to give more of your hard-earned money to an opulent mega-corporation? Do you want to serve satan? Don't fall for the cheap con-artist tricks of the Windows peddlers.

My dad is playing Halo 4 right now, he has never played the earlier games. When asked whether that made the story hard to follow he replied "is there a story? I just run around shooting people. Oh, but there is this weird girl that talks all the time, I don't really get what that is all about."

You know what's fun? PAX Aus. You know what you should work into your travel schedule? PAX Aus.

I'm starting to feel like I will be in an episode of Sauna Time Machine soon, or a Sauna Teleporter miniseries...

Two months and two weeks here and I'm still grabbing anything I can whenever. Hopefully it helps with cancer of the rear and thighs and adjascent areas.

Google's Santa Call thing is just a little bit too much fun.

I'd like it more if it didn't have all the disclaimers and ads at the end. I sent a test message to a coworker, was surprised to hear all of that at the end. It's not on the .mp3 it generates for you to listen to.

*edit* it arrived now.

I still think this is awesome and hope they expand the names.

The CRTC (Canada's FCC) has finally done something on behalf of consumers and forced Rogers to speed match their new higher uploads speed plans for third parties! In truth, they already had to do this but because they're a scumbag company, they were refusing and forcing the third parties to file a complaint. This means I might finally be able to get better than 1Mbps upload on my cable connection and finally start doing some of the live streaming ideas I've had from home. There's no timeline on when this will be implemented, I'm sure Rogers will drag their feet and make excuses as long as possible but hopefully soon. So stoked!

Wait, they did something? Isn't doing something outside the CRTC's mandate?

It was under Konrad von Evilgenius who used to run things but the new dude they have running the show not only seems more interested in doing pro-consumer things but he doesn't want to full around with telecartel bullsh*t it seems. I hope he keeps this up.

All right, all right. Remember that job offer I might have mentioned for Lloydminster, AB? No? Yes? I don't care either way. I didn't take it due to low money and high rent and living costs. This is all old news.

I am now in the lead for a job in Penticton, BC. Oh yeah. More money, cheaper rent and a gorgeous mountain view. Gonna be a sole reporter, a one-man news gathering machine for a strictly online news site. I would get to write stories in my car, a coffee shop, a bar, my car, a bar, my bathroom or a bar.

Here's hoping, here's my fingers crossed, here's my enthusiasm:

Dude, that sounds awesome! I so hope you land it! Nice Christmas gift.

I thought you didn't want to be a one-man news operation?

I hope it works out for you and I look forward to reading stories written from the toilet of your favorite bar. Please come up with a secret code for indicating the where the story was written.

How so very Seussian of you.

I didn't want to be a one-man news operation working in a three-man environment. At this potential new job my hours would be 40 hours a week, weekends off (mostly) and that's it. The problem I had before was doing a three-person job by myself sometimes. Or all the time, seven days a week, 52 weeks a year. And it's strictly online. That means no layout or reworking photos to make sure they don't like crap in newsprint.

All in all, this would be an ideal position for me.

You're going to be a MoJo!

You'll soon know every WiFi spot in town.

Better, make sure they give you an air card and a decent camera.

Good luck!

Got it. I'll create specific leads so you will know where I wrote that story.

Apparently, the job provides $1,000 a year tech allowance.

My boss left for the day and for the first time in years did not let us leave as well. The only reason this is in the love thread is becuase we are all hanging around chating.

After today I have until January 7th off work.
