Not sayin'. Just sayin'.

Holy crap, just finished the game with every ending. Also, I've basically been playing the game non stop for the past three days

Really glad I played this game. And while it's definitely not a happy game, I'm all right with that and enjoyed my experience very much. Not sure if I have much more to add to that at the moment, as I'm still processing everything that happened. Plus, I'm really freaking tired.

Wait, there are different endings?

So, I just finished. Yeah, Minarcist, I fully expected the wrist-slit moments since when I started. Still, I felt like mentioning them.

So, my ending was rather happy, and I'm at a bit of a loss.

Spoiler:

He "recovers Yonah and Kaine is cool with everything"

I'm surprised how well it ended. I thought there would be some serious stuff going on which I'm pretty sure is the case:

Spoiler:

Yonah=Kaine bleh bleh bleh. The main character keeps doing the same thing over and over again until he becomes the "Shadowlord".

I'm very disapointed that you all called the "second half of the game" NG+. This game's constuction is nothing like that. Anyways, that's my opinion, and I hope that people don't mislead others into thinking that the last 50-30% of the game as a NG+ mode. It's not.

Edit: well sh*t... What's the deal with this ending B... I REALLy don't want to spend... okay, i'm reading through everything now... will report back later.

Yuuuuup, there you go. That should also answer your issue with NG+

hehehehehe.

For those of you who have finished the game (and as a bookmark for those who are close), I invite you to peruse the fan translation of Grimoire NIER, a series of explanations and story vignettes written by the creators of the game to further flesh out the characters and the universe. I also strongly urge you to check out this tumblr, in which a guy who's given a lot more thought to this game even than me does some seriously impressive analysis and writing as to why it's so important. Read everything you can past the "Metaposts" section. Here, he even sums up the entire plot of Nier more succinctly than I ever could:

Nobody is the villain of their own story.

Happy reading!

So, I never was in a NG+ mode. I just played really fricking slowly. Is there more/different story once you play it again? I didn't get around to really looking into it too much because I needed to do other stuff. I'll probably just read the spoilers because I really need to move on from this game. I think I spent about 35 hours on it already. I feel like I actually completed the game.

You should really, really do NG+ through to ending B. Really. It won't take too long, as you start from the halfway point (that big event at the library), and you should be plenty powerful. Don't skip any cut-scenes when you're gunning for ending B.

Seriously, I can only add to Min's urging. Invest another 8-10 hours. It doesn't take that long, but you have only sampled the outer layer of the narrative. You have to get to the sticky caramel centre... Don't read about it, or YouTube it either, you will be denying yourself an awesome experience.

Bleh... I guess I'll have to do that. I'll just do it as fast as I can. At least the game is easy.

You don't have to do any sidequests, so you can just run from story point to story point. It doesn't take long.

8-10 would be really taking your time for ending B, wouldn't it? I remember it being more like 4-6 hours to get there.....

You can finish up one NG+ run in about 2-4 hours I'd say. Just use Strength/Magic Capsules in order to make easy bosses even easier. Plus this is a great time to get those achievements for taking out bosses in record time. And by record I mean you can probably blow through most bosses in around 2 minutes.

I ended up with around 40 hours total with all endings, where I had around 30 for the first time through. Doing those damn side quests definitely padded that time more than I needed to.

I was going worse case, plus it's been a while . I also had to do a lot of stop-start gaming with the time I had.

So, I just did the first boss in NG+. It's actually kind of fun being so ridiculously overpowered. However, I found that one of the boss time trophies didn't pop. I'm not too happy about that because it seems they count the damn cutscene time. I guess I'll have to skip the cutscenes. Is there any info that's different during the boss cutscenes in NG+ mode? I don't want to miss anything. It seemed there was some extra dialogue occurring.

Loading up last night's save now to go back and do that boss because I saved over the damn pre-boss save. Grrrrrr.

Edit: Well, it only took about 15 minutes to get back there and kill him, skipping the cutscenes. I guess I'll do 2 plays of each boss in the NG+ mode. Once where I watch the cutscenes, and once where I skip them for the trophy.

Nah, it's not the cutscene time--it's the actual battle itself. Like I said previously, the strength and magic drops/capsules (increases physical/magical damage for x seconds) go a long way to wiping out the bosses quickly. And you should definitely not be skipping cutscenes the first time through--the extra dialogue adds so much more to the world that you definitely do not want to miss out on.

To be honest it took me a couple of times on a few bosses myself. One of the things to note is that any words you've added to weapons/magic are removed in NG+, so you'll have to go through and re-add them. That helps to give a little bit of an extra umph to your attacks.

Well, I basically instantly killed the guy whenever it came out of cutscene, so I'm not sure why the trophy didn't pop the first time. Hmm.

Edit: Also, come to think of it, I think I actually got him slower the second time when I skipped the cutscenes. I messed up a few rolls and whatnot. At any rate, I know to be careful with that pre-boss save.

DO NOT SKIP THE CUT SCENES IN NEW GAME PLUS.

AT ALL.

EVER.

I figured out the word thing after I got both the trophies. I'm assuming they will probably help later on. I have my Phoenix Spear up to Level 2 now going into the

QFT!

Tuff, if you want all the endings there will be a 3rd run of the 2nd half. You can get the trophies then. In fact one is only achievable then.

Hrm. You know, I can't think of anything much more appropriate to play while avoiding the rest of the world over the holidays than this game. So I think I'll be starting my Nier playthrough finally.

NoooooooooooOOoo!!! Well, I guess my date with this game is going much longer than expected. I don't feel too frustrated because I'm having fun with it.

Have fun, Farscry!

Oh, I will. I've been looking forward to this one since I picked it up earlier this year, but wanted to shave a bit off the top of the Pile first.

Yargh, so... much... salt... in... wounds. Still haven't finished up the first new game plus even.

Mr. Beepy noooooooooo! Seriously, that's one of the moments that really hit me for some reason.
