Any photographers in the house?

Too bad they just shut down all the Ritz(/Wolf) Camera stores around here recently...

But yeah, they're generally decent.

Any of you guys print photos that you've taken?

I'd like to get some printed out and I'm looking for recommendations for online printers. I won't be doing a lot of printing, just a few pictures here and there, and nothing huge, probably 11x14 at the largest right now.

I had a photobook done at
http://www.adoramapix.com/app/home
and i can tell you now that their color matching is amazing. The quality was fantastic. I have not tried a print but I eventually will.

Nicely done with the lighting. My only constructive feedback would be that in the third image not enough light is reaching her legs so it looks less natural than the other two.

Agreed. That was the first night we made it to beach and I was racing to take photos before complete darkness.
For some reason though I like the light only on her upper half draws the attention to her face.

So this new app called Snapseed has appeared on the Android OS. It's been on iOS for a while but i just wanted to share a couple shots I've edited with it. Photos are from my Samsung Galaxy S3.

Pulled the trigger on a Like New G5. I just couldn't justify the money for the same sensor in an EM-5, when I would have had to buy the portrait grip as well. And the Panny supposedly works a bit better with my G series glass.

Plus I don't need it to last 10 years, and this gives me the excuse to upgrade in three or four!

Canon 50mm f1.2, just wow. Not sure what else I can say.

Geeze F1.2 you have to be precise with that. Probably take me awhile to get use to that.
Probably be a great lense for star photography.

It's really good for picking out that blemish on the tip of a nose.

This is going to be our (wifey and me) next lens. That and a 2x converter.

With the recent Instagram terms of use PR and ownership of your images firestorm, has it made you reconsider how or where you'll be sharing images on the web?

Not a fan of fake film grain, so I never made an instagram account in the first place...

I've enjoyed Hipstamatic just as a way to experiment with things when I don't have my camera but I never made it past the fact Instagram wanted my personal info before I could even see what the product was.

I put most of my stuff under creative commons, sharealike and non-commercial licences via Deviantart anyway so I'm not too bothered unless I ever see someone stealing it really badly without attribution.... or in a commercial use.

The likelihood of me a) observing either one of those is quite small, methinks and b) anyone wanting to steal any of my photos in the first place is quite low... so I'm currently not bothered about it. I'll get back to you if someone makes a hefty sum from my "product".

Unrelated to the instagram discussion, I found this piece on Slate interesting: http://www.slate.com/blogs/behold/2012/12/19/ray_k_metzker_six_decades_of_photography_innovation_photos.html

Okay, I need a vote. I found this great place I hadn't explored before, literally 5 minutes from my front door... and I spent about an half an hour taking pictures there. I picked out some of the best ones but I need people to vote which are "the best" because I've been staring at them for so long that I can't pick out which ones deserve attention on various websites and which are just average.

Let the feedback commence!

using the last two digits from the file names I think 80, 05, and 23 deserve a closer look.

80 has many nice leading lines that give it some additional interest.

I like 05 and 80 which seems to agree with Rahmen. I'm not sure about 23 because my monitor is terrible at work. I like 80 the best of the top bunch because there isn't foreground and background blurriness. Foreground blurriness only works for me when there is a significant object you are focusing on. So, for me, a lot of the top bunch look strange. I think the composition and amount of DoF worked well in 80. 23 just has some really nice composition, colors, and DoF.

I think 23 could have worked awesome if there was something more interesting going on in the right half of the shot. I feel like that tan building should have been in complete view somehow (probably not possible) rather than having it partially obscured. I'm guessing all the colors are great, but like I said, bad monitor here.

Wow, okay, 80 i see but I had no idea 23 would be even mentioned. I think I just had it up on screen to fill space. I agree with you, Tuffalo, that there just needed to me something on the right... but the cathedral was too far over and it wouldn't make it.

Here's an expanded view of that same scene. I think I like this one better but the other has more focus on "imagined space/real space"... which I thought was interesting.

In the larger perspective 23 shows the potential of the spot but the other ones are probably stronger.
Thanks for sharing.

You mean like missing your focus point by a couple inches?

Raw out of the camera messing around with my miserable work associate for the day.

f1.2, 1/125, ISO 800 in very little light.

Malta.

The things I'm poking around there are the gun emplacement and bunker guarding the harbour between Sliema and Valletta. The rusted tracks are, at my best guess, cart tracks for ammo since they head indoors.

Here's some of the shots I took today around the area where I live along with the ones above:

I got to take my DSLR out on backpacking trip.
Made this.

That was terrific. Thanks for sharing. (Great selections on music too)

Fun! I skipped through it a bit because I was in a hurry, but I liked what I saw. The starry sky time lapse was great.

I am so jelly of these low F stop lens... I really just gotta bite the bullet and get one.

IT was cold, but I think I got the shots I was looking for this morning:

I really should have taken the time to photograph the sunlit side, the morning light would have been spectacular on the glass finish... next time. There are a couple other at slightly different crops and shutter speeds on my flickr, I "think" I curated the better ones here.

We had a touch of frost this morning so I went out shooting.

Ordered one of these today
http://techcrunch.com/2010/04/01/rev...

I wanted something that i could quickly whip out my camera, or change lenses without needing to put the backpack down each time.
Trip to Disney made it necessary.

I've had that bag for a while Groan. It's worked great for me. The hidden rain sleeve is a nice touch too.

Me too. I really like it.
