Diablo III Catch-All 2.0

A new character on mp10 is awesome fun. The difficulty is balanced out by the fact that you are over leveled for the content you come across. I am sure at some level that evens out or perhaps gets flipped. But up until level 24 so far, it is a ton of fun, even for a class you've already played to high levels.

Wait, a level 1 char playing Act 1 MP10? Maybe cutting down trash, but I can't imagine taking down the Butcher or even some elites on MP10 without some ridiculously good gear.

To farm equip for my new char I've been sending my 60(23) WD through MP10 normal, which is actually quite entertaining watching everything just fall down in front of you, but there's no way my actual new Wiz would survive that.

Well, I picked a Witch Doctor so the pets help as you whittle things down. But it does not take you that long to be 4-5 levels above the content you are encountering.

It has been a few weeks so I don't really remember the Butcher fight.

I just downloaded this again. I have a 60 Monk that I stopped playing a while ago, so I'm pretty stoked to see what has changed.

You're getting 100% bonus XP so you'll likely be late 20's by the time you get to the butcher instead of mid teens and he only has 4 times his normal health. Based on what I've seen on reddit, running MP10 from the start of a new character is the new hotness. All of my characters that are currently leveling are hardcore so I'm not really sure I want to try it but normal is so comically easy I might give it a shot.

You guys are killing me. Ok, I'll be on later.

Welp... tried to run a game and my macbook's fan just stopped working all together. So when I try to run the game, my processor gets dangerously close to 100 degrees (C). That makes the game run like garbage and it makes me scared that my computer will go kaput. So no Diablo for me until I can get the thing to IT at school. At least I have free repairs while I'm a student.

Maybe I'll give it a shot.. i'm running MP1... not really having much of a challenge.. bosses aren't "hard" as in kill me but it just takes longer.. butcher on MP1 took long, but never really felt like I was going to die. Not sure whats faster to 60.. kill things faster at lower MP, or kill harder things slower that give more XP. I may up it to 2 or 3, but unless you liberally use the AH, I have a hard time seeing MP10 happening with just regular no-twink, no-AH gear progression, doesn't seem like the best bang for the buck. If you're doing it just for the fun of it, then its probably a good challenge.

I can't complain much... This one was issued to me by my college, so I didn't really have to pay for it.

I had 3 legendary items drop for me last night. 1 on my DH, and 2 on my Wizard. Did one of these recent patches adjust legendary drop rates?

Ivory Tower
Lamentation
The Gidbinn

1.0.4 increased the quality and the drop rate.

I remember 1.04, I meant since then. I played a lot of 1.04 and never got a single legendary, and to now get 3 within a 24 hour period? I suppose the RNG could just favor me, but that seems really strange.

Yeah, I wouldn't sweat it. I've gotten 2 legendary set pieces in a single run within seconds of each other.

Now, getting your legendaries to be worth something other than crap, that's another thing...

Ivory Tower and The Gidbinn I'll probably use myself, the stats aren't amazing but they're solid enough. Lamentation I'm considering melting for mats, it's not worth anything.

The legendary drop rate was doubled with Patch 1.05. In addition, the use of monster power can increase your magic find rate significantly. I can usually get about 2 legendary drops an hour using my 300% MF Witch Doctor. Unfortunately, I find myself scrapping about 90% of them. The auction house has really made it so your chances of finding anything worth more than a few hundred thousand gold is remote.

I had my first hardcore death this evening. I just started the event in the royal crypts with the four pillars that spawn a sh*t-ton of skeletons and my internet decided to take a big dump. He was only level 10 and, by far, my least favorite class so I'm real torn up about it. I'm actually surprised that it took so long. My internet has been spotty for the last month or so which is precisely why I haven't been playing my level 56 character.

RIP Mike the Demon Hunter

The moment I stopped playing the game. I was heartbroken. Especially because the culprit was, you guessed it, a lag spike.

Always on DRM, ladies and gentlemen.

Hah, even 300+ hours I learn something new every day. If you are farming Inferno you probably have more flawless square gems than you'll ever need. My twink is using them and whenever I get a socketed piece of equip i use one... As I upgraded the twink gear, I realized it would cost 1600g to unsocket the flawless square gem... certainly more expensive than just buying in the AH, and since I'm too lazy to do that I figured I'd just sell the gear with the gem and just use a new one. Well, lo and behold, if you just go to the blacksmith and scrap the gear with the gem in it, you get your shiny gem back and for free!

Obviously not recommended for higher level gear, but if you're just burning through < level 60 gear, might as well go that route to save a few coins on removing and resocketing gems.

To be clear, this game would be f*cking terrible if played offline and I wouldn't still be playing it. Never getting to play with other people is reason enough to have it always be online. If it was offline, I never would have been able to sell one item for 300 million gold to upgrade the sh*t out of some of my characters. I almost never get lag spikes which is why I'm comfortable playing hardcore. Simple lag spikes are very easy to survive anyway. If you're connection is such that you get a lot of lag spikes, you probably shouldn't play hardcore. Comcast has been throttling me lately for some dumb reason so I knew that I was taking a risk which is why I've been leveling new characters instead of playing my high level one.

Whereas I feel the exact opposite of how you do, nopants. If the game were able to have offline single player and had the game balanced without an auction house economy in mind, I probably would've played the hell out of it and still be playing it, and continue to play it into the future the way I did Diablo 2 - in offline single player so I had fantastic performance and no lag issues, and then later on with awesome mods that made the game fresh and new and amazing (yay Median XL!).

I don't bother picking up gems anymore, they're like 200 gold in the AH. Just a waste of time. If you want to craft them just go buy 1,000 of them and go wild! : )

Actually now that I think about it, most stuff in this loot-based game is not even worth picking up.

For me:
Legendaries
Amulets
Rings
Gloves
Bracers

That's it, everything else is 99% crap, I don't even bother identifying stuff now. Since Rares are usually bad, and you get gold from the next couple of monsters you kill, it's just a big waste of time with not a lot of reward. It actually makes me feel worse to return to town with a full backpack and have ALL the rares be crap. : /

I didn't really play Diablo 2 but were white/blue items ever useful there? They don't have a reason to exist in D3.

Crap items not even worth looking at:
Most Rare weapons
Most Rare armor
Blue items
White items
Gems
Tomes of Secrets
Health potions

Hah, i've given up on blues I still like picking up yellows and gems though. I do need to give up on the tomes... so useless.. but the powder blue text is sooooo tempting to click! Have 3 pages of stash space and only 3 characters... might as well use them for something. I can pretty much go an hour or so session and not have to worry about selling.. the gems only take up at most 4 of your inventory, and sadly I still need potions every so often. Easily bought at the vendor I know, but I'm so cheap I wait until the event in Act 2 where the vendor shows up that sells them for 50% off before I buy them And since I'm not always farming act 2, I have to pick them up.

Assuming a new, non-twinked character you started fresh and played through Diablo 2: yes, blues, rares, set items, and uniques were all potentially useful (but the majority just got vendored/ignored, of course) depending upon your build and what dropped when. White items have always been vendor trash, with one exception: using an exceptional one for getting enchanted by the smith in Act 1 once per difficulty.

You might want to pick up shoulders too. People overpay like crazy for vile wards but rare shoulders are often better and the more reasonable people buying from the auction house know that so you can get decent money from good shoulders. Level 63 one-handers can also be good but only if you get over 1000 dps with crit damage and a socket.

I'll look at them, usually I'll take Archon (anything) if I see them but it's still pretty rare to get a good drop even with the new bumped drop stats. Vile wards are also dramatically dropping in price, I wonder if they'll keep their value.

I think Blizzard should seriously look at adding more interesting effects for items because the definition of a "Good" item is so static, it makes 99% of the loot you find be worthless, and the 1% is ridiculously expensive.

Effects like the legendaries perks but on rares. Like "burn the ground you walk on", or make enemies explode, summoning, or doing something interesting besides crit chance/damage, etc. As it is, yellows are pretty boring...

Did they date the expansion yet? With D2 they added a bunch of new item variants and effects with LoD, so I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same with the D3 expansion.

10-to-1 odds that the expansion brings back Diablo 2's runes+runeword system or something very very similar.

One of the other nice things about d2's itemization is that there were more common white items that were not useless because they were worth 10x the gold of most items. (crowns, circlets and wands come to mind)

I am torn on whether I'd like to see charms make a return. I really don't want to have to scour for +skill items to get to +20-40 to be competitive.

The flipside of this is that gold in D2 was completely worthless except on your very first character. There's a reason the player-based trading market was based on items and not gold.
