Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Catch-All – Shepards with Jobs

WTH... another level in Crusader. It's like the game knows what weapon I don't like.

Give the Crusader a chance. It's super accurate and has armor piercing by default. I use it like a scopeless Black Widow.

I am currently unable to connect to the ME3 servers. Not sure why. It's not an Origin-wide thing - I was just playing, and Laarrs and Kexx are playing right now.

This means no MP, and as a fun side effect, no DLC whatsoever (which means no SP saves I've made using DLC - that is, any of them).

I try to go to EA's Answer HQ to post about it, and it seems I still cannot sign in. So I went and posted in the BSN multiplayer forum instead, because I didn't know where else to dump it.

In sum: I wish when I had gotten that survey recently asking how likely I would be to recommend Origin to a friend, I had replied 0 instead of 1. Ah, the foolishness of youth last week.

Yup, I had the same problem on Saturday and Sunday. Haven't tried since. I should go back in and see. It was just taking ages to connect, then when it finally did, it dropped and said couldn't connect.

I don't think it's realistic to expect Origin to be flawless. Even Steam goes down from time to time.

I don't think it's Origin exactly, it's the EA servers. I can launch the game fine from Origin, it's the connecting to the EA servers that goes south.

Weekend Operation> Prophecy

Challenge Goal 1: Extract once on each Earth map (London, Vancouver, and Rio).

Challenge Goal 2: Score 100,000 cumulative points against Reaper enemies.

Challenges can be completed at any difficulty.

Completion of both goals awards the player a Commendation Pack.
Completion of both goals also awards the player a banner, “Hero of the Last Days.”

I made it even being sync killed on LZ wave 11. It counts, as long as your team gets the extraction. Got a Hurricane from my pack.

Hopefully, I get the time to accomplish that. Stupid holiday.

A slew of new classes, too. Batarian adepts, turian engineers, hilariously a volus vanguard. I got the drell infiltrator, which is pretty fun. Cloak, homing grenades, and recon mine, I put a Black Widow on it, even though the class tree pushes for pistols, and did pretty good.

Today I finally carried my first teams!! Yay!! I don't know why people complain. It felt GOOD. They were dying left and right. I'm reviving them constantly, then when they're all good and dead because they weren't careful, I kited the evil Bosses. One was really tough. It was White/Collectors/Gold. The team wasn't awful, but it seemed to me that everyone was out score hoarding, because they all kept dying far away from each other. Like they were Rambo-ing it up.

At one point, I was in the "new" corridor up top, with a scion, 3 abominations, and a captain, and he had webbed both entrances!! Nevermind the web, I said, blast it with a launcher! Never afraid of overdoing it, it helped me get out and continue to kite the remaining baddies. I joined that game on wave 2, and we died on wave 10, but I got top score. Yay! I was Male Quarian Infiltrator with Cloak and Arc Nades, no Scan. M55 Argus 1 I had just gotten, and took out for a spin.

The second game was London/Reaper/Silver. Much easier, but this time, the team was bad, I'm afraid. Maybe not bad, but inexperienced with how the game plays. They kept dying out in the open, nowhere near cover. I was reviving them constantly, unless it was dangerous for me to do it. On wave 6, pizza delivery, I had to let them die because I was delivering the 2nd pizza, and needed the timer to go out. Between having the wave be timeless, and dropping the pizza and attempt to save a comrade, there was no choice. Funny enough, I brought a level 14 Salarian Engie with lvl 4 Incinerate and lvl 4 Energy Drain, no Decoy. They all had level 20 new classes. Beat them by about 30k points, and got extraction. I was very happy today with my performance.

I think I might be ready to finally solo Silver. I already have my 10 Bronze solo extractions. Almost done with Geth Mastery and Assault Rifle Mastery, which are the ones I've been focusing on right now. But those Geth Prime points...uuugghh..takes so long! And some of those AR's, man, do they suck. I'm looking at you, Revenant and Falcon!

Anyways. If any of you guys are up for some games tomorrow and/or the weekend, hit me up. I'm always ready for some ME3 MP.

I'm still working on feeling more comfortable in Silver. I started feeling pretty good about it; carried a few Bronze rounds, etc., then I promoted everyone and sucked when I was working through things, and last week it took 3 or 4 rounds to even earn the survival challenge. Gah. I don't even want to think about solo rounds yet.

FYI, the challenge was live as of last night. Completed it in 3.5 missions (stupid pubbies who don't know how to run a gold match on Rio: you do NOT hang out in the middle!)

So, I've been playing the multiplayer at least once a week. Feel free to friend me up on PS3.

I'm on PC by the way. I have Laarrs, and Kloreep in my list, of whom I still see around. Then a whole bunch of goodjers who I never see online anymore.

You can add me. I play semi-regularly.

Ok. I haven't done this in months, so I forgot. How do I add you, again?

I think that would be via your Origin friends list. Feel free to add me as well. I'm on Origin as complexmath. Go figure.

That would be me... I am never online anymore becuase my daughter seems to hate night time and refuses to go to bed.

Hopefully with my time off this holdiay I can pop back on and play again.

request sent. Will be online later tonight, if anyone else wants to do the weekend challenge, or just shoot geth for fun. No Cerberus for the love of God, though. I hate those things...

Well EA hates me and it still won't let me connect to the EA servers. It will sometimes after about 3 minutes, but then click on multiplayer and it says "you've lost connection to EA servers". This has been happening for a week now. Apparently it's not just me. A bunch of other Aussies area also getting the same crap. Looks like someone over at EA went on holidays a little too early and decided to kill the EA servers on their way out.

*sigh*

My evenings are pretty much spoken for through Christmas, but I'll be back in game after that.

K. I finally finished the Assault Rifle Mastery, by doing 9/9, instead of all of them. Now, I haven't tried every weapon in the game, but I have tried many, and I can safely say, that the Particle Rifle is absolute sh*t. It has extremely low ammo capacity, does little to no damage outside of headshots, which btw, are impossible to do since for some reason, the rifle autocorrects aim to the body, and is the slowest reloading weapon I've encountered. I hate it. And those f*ckers at Bioware made it 200,000 pts to complete, instead of 140,000 like the rest of the weapons. I can't stand it. I really, really hate it. I'm glad I got it out of the way, and I will never ever use it for long as I live. I really wish I had other rifles to try to complete the challenge. Using this one really gave a lot of gray hairs.

It actually sucked the fun out of the game for a little, so I might step back a few days and then come back. Sheesh...

Kexx, I agree with you about the Particle Rifle. But many people swear by it once you get it levelled up a ways.

Could be it. Mine's at lvl 2 only. I don't know. If I ever get it leveled up I might give it another try, but doubtful.

I put a level 5 expanded magazine in the Particle Rifle and suddenly it has twice as much ammo to play with.

The particle rifle is a very unique weapon compared to others in ME3. From the wiki:

- The Particle Rifle does not use thermal clips. Instead, it uses a cooldown system like the weapons of the original Mass Effect. It cannot run out of ammunition as a result, giving this assault rifle a significant advantage over the other assault rifles. Players may want to treat this weapon as a weaker Collector Particle Beam with a smaller, but regenerating ammo pool.

- The Particle Rifle's beam does have a finite range, after which no damage will occur. This balances out the beam's perfect accuracy at long range against other, more traditional rifles.

- Due to its continuous fire, Particle Rifle is perfect for killing low-HP enemies (e.g. Swarmers and their gestation pods) and exposing invisible enemies.

- The Particle Rifle's initial DPS is very low, but goes up dramatically after 50 units of energy (half the initial clip size) has been consumed. This property makes it well-suited for long, sustained fire against targets and can do very high amounts of damage in a short time as long as the beam remains on-target. Pre-charging the weapon behind obstacles can be useful on higher difficulties, where you might get killed while your weapon is charging to full power. Using active powers will interrupt the charge, however, as well as depleting ammo reserve. This strategy is best used with a thermal clip capacity mod.

- Enemies killed by the rifle will light up in green "flames", the same color as the particle beam, as they topple to the ground and disintegrate. This serves to destroy the corpse of a fallen enemy to deny a Cannibal any buffs from devouring fallen comrades.

- The Particle Rifle is perfectly accurate and has no recoil at all, so accuracy and stability upgrades are useless. The most useful upgrade is thermal clips upgrade, which enhances ammo capacity beyond initial 100. Clip upgrades drastically increase the time you can use the sustained, high-damage beam, allowing you to tear through multiple enemies or hardened ones quickly. The piercing upgrade is also very useful with the Particle Rifle: enemies in cover and most armored enemies become easy prey.

- Equipping squadmates with the Particle Rifle makes it easy to focus-fire enemies. The AI also ignores smoke grenades (and sometimes even solid obstacles) so your companions will pinpoint enemies you can't see.

- If used with Incendiary Ammo, the Particle Rifle is very effective at quickly killing enemies with health or armor. A fully-upgraded Particle Rifle with Incendiary Ammo, combined with the damage multiplier and thermal clip capacity mods (giving a maximum clip size of 180), will decimate most enemies even on Insanity. However, the rifle will not perform as well against enemies with strong shields or barriers, such as the Banshee.

- The Particle Rifle's biggest drawback is unique to it: if its ammo counter reaches zero, it initiates a reload animation in which it vents excess heat, followed by additional downtime before the rifle's ammo pool begins to refill. This downtime will be aborted if the player takes just about any action, such as using powers, switching weapons or entering/exiting cover; after doing any of those things, Shepard must complete the entire reloading ritual from scratch. Potential countermeasures include:

Using shorter bursts and never bottoming out your ammo counter.
Using Adrenaline Rush. This will not reset the ammo to full, but it will bypass the downtime, with the rifle beginning to recharge immediately.

One trick with any auto-replenishing weapon is to use the auto-refill. The manual reload that you have to do if you totally run out is a punishment more than anything else.

As far as the Particle Rifle goes, I've never quite grokked it either. I think the key to using it is to fire (nearly! see above :)) the whole clip in one burst, as it gets a damage multiplier once you've been firing it long enough. But personally, I'll take a lot of guns over it any day - including the Collector Sniper Rifle.

Just picked up ME 3 and am interested in exploring multiplayer. Is it too late to get involved (By that I mean will I stand a chance as a newbie when everyone else has been playing for months)?

Also, do the rewards I earn in multiplayer still accrue even if I havent started a Single player game? I'm asking that because Im still progressing through ME 2 with my femshep

Definitely not too late. I tried it for the first time about a month ago. So far I've pretty much been playing pub games, which has been a surprisingly decent experience. No one ever says anything and people tend to work together. I don't know about the readiness points if you don't have an SP game started, but I'd think that would be stored in the cloud so it should be okay. You really don't need to do multi for the "optimal" ending anymore anyway--they tweaked that a bit since the game was launched.

Indeed, you don't need MP for SP purposes any more. It's fun in its own right though. And it's definitely always possible to join in - one of the things I like about it being co-op only.

Let us know your platform and your nick on said platform.

Hmm, changed my origin password and now it works. Go figure.
