This is now about Ben's brother Nate (Newtown, CT)

Which surprises nobody I'm sure.

EDIT: scrubbed P&C stuff. Not today. Maybe tomorrow, but definitely not today.

Edit: Tannhausered

I consider myself very anti-gun. I don't really see any point for them honestly. This idea that an armed populace prevents the government in check is just stupid. No matter how nice your gun is if the military wanted you dead you would be. No gun stops a cruise missle, or a tank shell.

Anyway, I don't see how this is important to this discussion. Crazy people do crazy things. Just this week a man in China attacked a bunch of kids at a school with a knife! Should we ban those too? No we need a better system for helping those with mental illness not restrictions on more things. It is a sad commentary on the US that we almost always go for punishment and restriction rather than help and support as a way to address these kinds of tragedies.

Edited to be accurate.

My correction was rendered moot, though I'll say that I'm not comfortable brushing the acts of the mentally deranged under the sh*t Happens rug. Mental illness is far too varied and vast to make assumptions.

I'd recommend dropping by P&C, because it was pointed out there that there were no deaths.

Yes, reading comprehension fail. I read this article on the BBC and saw this line.

Security at China's schools has been increased in recent years following a spate of similar knife attacks in which nearly 20 children have been killed.

And took from that the some died in the most recent attack. It still kind of shows that just having guns gone won't stop violence but it also shows that it can help drastically reduce the death count.

A dear friend of mine has two kids at that school. One is okay. One is missing. If you're a praying person, please do. If you're not, hold a good thought.

Who does this? How are you that broken?

That's a good question.

I can't even... Please let us know as soon as their other child is found, LostLobster.

I'm a believer that's never been good at prayer, especially under these sorts of situations, but I'll do my best.

It does not matter what your politics are today. This was terrible.

Thoughts, wishes, and hopes, LostLobster -- please keep us updated.

Heard of this on the radio as I was driving home. Been too busy at work for the usual news break.

Absolutely f*cked.

Oh man. That just. I'm so sorry. What a terrible experience for that family and all the others. Definitely in my thoughts and prayers, the latter very rarely given out.

Deleted response from a deleted post.

No words. I'm tearing up every time I try to...
Lostlobster, I hope they find their little one safe and sound.

I have twin 6 year olds in school at this moment. I just want to pick them up, bring them home and never stop hugging them.

I want to get my kids as well. With this and the shooting at a mall across town here this week, I just want to stay inside for a long time.

Lostlobster, I'm pulling for you and your friends.

Positive thoughts are going out. This is the worst day in so many parents lives. I'm hoping for good news for your friend, Lobster.

It's actually Newtown CT. I read today that since 1999 there have been 31 school shootings in the US and 14 in the rest of the world combined. I don't think this has really sunk in for me yet. I just keep reliving the lock-down drills my school did twice a year after Columbine.

I can't even imagine what your friend is going through. Sending every positive thought I can their way that their little one is ok.

The Onion was surprisingly accurate in describing how I feel about this.

F*ck Everything, Nation Reports
Just F*ck It All To Hell

WASHINGTON—Following the fatal shooting this morning at a Connecticut elementary school that left at least 27 dead, including 20 small children, sources across the nation shook their heads, stifled a sob in their voices, and reported f*ck everything. Just f*ck it all to hell.

All of it, sources added.

“Well, I suppose we have to try to pick up the pieces and make some sort of sense of this tragedy and—you know what? F*ck it, I can’t do this,” said Connecticut resident Michael Zaleski, his remarks understandable given the circumstances, because, holy sh*t, what else can one say? “I’m sorry, but I can’t f*cking do this. Can you? Can anyone?”

I don't know how to write this.

Beautiful Benjamin, who just turned six, is gone.

There are no words.

The Onion, dead on as always.

That's just so horrible. I can't imagine how a parent deals with that, ever. I'm so very, very sorry for your friend's loss.

Incredibly sorry for your friend's loss lostlobster. I really don't know what else to say other than that
