Valve is secretly EuroCorp?

I'm mostly hoping for Anno 2070 and Skyrim to get even cheaper than before, but we'll see. The last sale felt like a dud, so my expectations are lowish.

As much as I want a dramatic sale on the game as well, I can hold off on Anno 2070 for a while, because I have a slew (a SLEW I TELL YOU!) of city building games still waiting to be played: Case in point, I am finally playing Children of the Nile, and then I will start up Tropico 4, Dawn of Discovery, Grand Ages Rome, and want to Replay Zeus/Poseiden and Cleopatra.

I find that limping along with a 6 year old PC really helps curb my impulse buying.

I caved and grabbed XCom for <$35 during the (American) Thanksgiving Sale.

Torchlight II is giving me "bedroom eyes". I doubt Dishonoured will run

Holy crap that's a lot of city building goodness.

Agreed. I can see someone being excited about the new Sim City game.

I'm really wanting to pick up Mark of The Ninja cheap and probably Hotline Miami and FTL sooner or later, just gots to wait to get PAID!

You and me both!!! Let's (try to) stay strong together!! :D

They all say this. They all cave in the end.

I'm gonna be building a shelter to fend off the enabler hoard. We need to defend ourselves. Our fallback position will be a beach in Mexico. We'll put our backs to the ocean and defend ourselves from there.

Sounds really good to me!! :p
And Sammich, I caved waaaaay too much back in November, I have a heck of a lot of binge buying to make up for!!

Everyone loves a bargain. Everyone! That's why places like TJ Maxx and Filene's Basement have been thriving.

That's a lot of good city building goodness! I have extremely fond memories of Zeus/Poseidon and Pharaoh/Cleopatra. Nothing like building a massive pyramid to make you feel like you've accomplished something, right?

So FTL is on a 50% off sale right now at the developer, mostly due to GOG's sale. Considering the previous sale history of FTL on Steam, that is to say none, it probably won't go lower than that at the Winter Steam Sale. So by that rationale, you could just pick it up now from the developer for 5 bucks.

Just get it at $5. It's an AWESOME game and it is worth more than $5 in play and enjoyment value.

I have an insane amount of games in the library already, and I'm like 6 to 12 mo behind on all the goodies.

I do enjoy the holiday gifting though. Please friend me up if we are not friends already so that we can maximize the GWJer holiday gifting!

Don't look at it as a backlog, look at it as a collection that never stops giving.

Edit: I just look at how many games I own on Steam. Holy Hell.

I love my collection! I'm proud of it, and I continue to feed it. As long as steam stays in business, I'll always have something to play when I feel like it, yet no piles of cardboard or discs to clutter my gaming area.

Oh, I love my collection too, I just didn't realize how large it was (hurr).

And yours is even laaaaaarger! Well done!

I have always wondered what will happen when Steam goes under and all those nice servers where our game collections are kept for us go away... Will Steam make all of those games downloadable for us to archive? or will we just be out all that money we dropped on the sales? It has been my main issue with digital distribution since the beginning. I love it, but I'm paranoid I'm going to lose all of my collection some day.

Hahahah, you think Steam will go under. Hahahahah.

In GOG we trust.

I still don't want to have to buy them again...

You see? Do you see?! Feeding it? It's alive I tells ya! It pulses and throbs in the darkness. It only shows its face when it receives another shovelful of game-slop. I think fire's the solution. Yeah. Fire. Good old fancy-dancey fire.

"Looks like you've got quite a Steam collection there. Be a shame if something happened to it. Guess someone needs to buy another game from Steam to make sure those servers stay funded. Yep. Be a real shame if someone didn't buy some more games to keep them on-line. Hate to see all these games become useless because they couldn't afford to keep the servers on-line."

I can understand that, but provided you have all the games downloaded, if Steam does magically go under and close up shop, you'll at least have the actual game files. The problem comes from Steam's authentication, which I'm sure someone will figure out how to break it.

And, if all else fails, you can always get your Steam library when Steam is in offline mode. I already use it so my wife can play the puzzle games I've bought downloaded on her laptop without kicking me off my regular account.

I mean, it's not an ideal situation having to have stupid amounts of hard drive space for all the games, but I feel like it's very possible to always have your collection available to you even if Steam shut its doors. There is just some hoops to go through first.

If Steam goes under it will mean the electrical and telecommunications networks have collapsed. If that happens lost games will the be least of our problems.

The last time I spent money on a game was August. $1 for Driver San Francisco, and when I finally loaded it up, after random amounts of time, it keeps blue screening. Before that I threw money at two things (Firefall and the Castle Story kickstarter), and spent $2.49 on myself out of my remaining steam wallet during the summer sale, so didn't actually spent anything there. I shall not be buying anything unless I get a Steam gift card.

I know I am very much not in the norm, but other than about 10 games, I don't place any value on my Steam games. If Steam died tomorrow, I guess it would a bit unpleasant, but I don't plan on playing any of those again anyway. I keep very very few of them installed.

About the only ones I care about having are the ones that I currently have installed (8), and the ones that hold special value to me like Ghost Recon, World in Conflict, and the Total Wars.

The rest? I have either played or won't play, and I don't really care if they were no longer available to me.

I couldn't wait for the sale and bought Mark Of The Ninja a couple of days ago. Totally worth it at full price, a treat at $10.00, a steal at anything below that.
Down to the last mission, and alreeady looking forward to playing through again.

I have a quick steam question. For years normal steam behavior for me is for steam to download multiple titles at the same time. Starting a couple weeks back, steam started limiting all of my game updates and downloads to strictly one at a time. I asked a friend about it, and he says that is the way his steam installs/updates have always acted.

Am I crazy or did something change? I ran a speedtest and my connection speed is still exactly the same as it has always been. I've looked through the settings menu and performed a cursory google search but can't seem to find how/where to change this behavior in steam. Any help/tips?

I've got five dollars left in my Steam account. I'm crossing my fingers that there are extremely low deals for things that I want that fall in this space, if not I doubt I'll be grabbing much this year.

Steam still does concurrent downloads for me.

You're not crazy. At least this observation you've made doesn't make you crazy. It could be other things. I don't know. Pie?

Seriously, I too have witnessed this. I've had multiple steam titles download simultaneously before but now steam does them one by one. Which is fine, as it waits one to finish downloading/installing before moving on to the next download.
