Far Cry 3

You can even kill the crabs

further editing....will repost.

They spurt out this blue kind of liquid. Yes, there is very little I haven't killed on the Island! Have to work out how to kill the jellyfish. Maybe I just have to ark the grenade up real high...

I got excited when I killed my first Manta Ray.

Some of the Rakyat trials and hunting quests are great. My favorites so far are (minor spoilers)

Spoiler:

The hunting mission where there are about 9 rabid dogs that need wiped out so they give you a rocket launcher. That makes sense. And a trial where your gun automatically switches after each kill. I haven't figured out if it's based on who you kill, but it's awesome.

Sorry, fixed

I hope you yelled "Crikey!" in a poor Australian accent, Vector.

I pretty much yell "Crikey!" at every opportunity.

This was ridiculous. And awesome.

To echo something that others have said, I really resent Ubisoft for forcing me to play story missions just for the "privilege" of spending the skill points that I've earned. I was sitting on 3 unspent points, so I reluctantly did the next story mission, Prison Break. The short monologue by Vaas was somewhat interesting, but the rest of the mission wasn't at all. QTEs are not fun, especially in an open-world game. Turret missions were fun when I played them almost 10 years ago in the original Call of Duty, but these days, not so much.

The worst part? I finished the mission, but the game didn't unlock any of the skills that were locked before the mission. Now I have 5 skill points that I want to spend on the skills that I want, but still can't. Goddammit.

*oh! question* Have they slapped a date on the likely release of the no HUD patch?

I'd like to know this as well.

I haven't touched the game since the patch was announced.

I've got plenty of stuff on my plate to keep me occupied but I'm really itching to dive back in. However, I refuse to fire up the game knowing that there's a no-hud patch inbound.

Fuzzballx's adventures compilation. Some cool ass moments from my FC3 non storyline experience.

Part of what makes it so great is the sh*t the bad guys say.

In the grenade takedown, there's a reason the bad guy wasn't aggroing me even though he saw me, if you havn't got that far yet...won't spoil the reason. Anyhow, i actually felt really bad for his buddy under the hood when he realized he was gonna die.

Famous last words from the video:

"Wow! .. sh*t sh*t sh*t, move!"

"Oh, Jeezus"

"Oh.My.God"

"Little boys shouldn't play with guns"

"At least this isn't the island with all the dinosaurs on it"

Finished the game, 57 hours total. That's with a fair bit of perfectionism, restarting outposts when detected.

The main story is eye-rollingly stupid. The missions on that storyline are often pretty good, but I actually enjoyed the little outpost set pieces the most, I think.

Strongest memory: starting a climb of a hill near dusk; the side I was on was in deep shadow, and the lights were on in a shack at the base. As I climbed, it got lighter, and after cresting it, the sunward side of the hill was bathed in sunlight, with long shadows.

It looked perfect. I've never seen light done so well in a game.

I'm finding it more fun to just be organic about it and sometimes just go rambo on them than always do undetected. Variety is the spice of it for me.

Oh, and a summation for those who haven't bought yet: it's trying for the same stupid fun approach of Just Cause 2, and for the most part, succeeds, although your character is less nuttily overpowered. The world is a more reasonable size, the engine is lovely, and the weapons have a good feel to them. Enemy AI is weak, but AI that's too good might not be much fun.

If you want a showpiece for a current-gen computer, this one is pretty much it. And, somewhat unusually for a showpiece, it's a fair bit of fun.

I'd call Dishonored much, much better, but it's not a graphic marvel in the same way.

Hyphens, sir. Hyphens.

Seems like Ubisoft is king of preventing the player from playing the game while playing it. QTEs, cut-scenes that wrest control away from the player and instant-fail mission objectives are just a few examples of things holding this game back. ACIII had the same problems - just let me stab some dudes, and I would be happy. I would even tolerate their dumb stories if they just stopped putting those three things in their games. It seems like the larger the game team, the less they are willing to let the game stand on its own merits. Stalker is a good example of a game that lets its game systems talk for it without getting in the way.

I read somewhere that it's confirmed for the next patch, but who knows, really?

Finally! This game was totally bogging down my quad-core octo-CPU system with quadruple crossfire running at 7680×4800. No wonder I was only getting 200fps. Unplayable!

I laughed a little too hard at that, I think. Well played, sir.

I've reached the point of the game where armored Heavies are at outposts. I really don't like this. I thought it was dumb, initially, when a bear took multiple shotgun blasts to the face. Now, we have superhumans. Bleh.

That's what heavy take downs are for....or .50 cal sniper rifles. Either is a 1 hit kill. Playing on hard and they posing no problems. I kinda wish they were even tougher but that'd be just unrealistic in the extreme i guess.

It's just an encouragement to upgrade your weapons to the new ones that pop up for the second half of the game and to take that one perk. But yeah, the transition when you first encounter them is rough. C4 and run behind a corner always works in a pinch.

The patch is PC-only, based on the wording of that note. Is that true for the 1.04 patch, as well? Hopefully not.

There's a button to hold your breath? I'd avoid that one. Holding your breath actually hurts accuracy Nice video though.
