Planetside 2 Catch-All

I like to think that the "We kick ass and take names!" attitude and of course the rock of the NC recruitment video are corporate marketing, it gives that faction's video another layer than the other two.

Honestly for a game that seems ripe for griefing and other troll activities I have seen little to none of it. One guy tking and talking stupid over a mike, one instance where someone tried to block the warp gate spawn room with turrets, and one teabagging. Generally surprised really, although if they gave everyone horns, well that be hell pretty quick.

I'm still not very good (<10 hours) but QD really needs to get there comm/ops ducks in a row. It is hellaconfusing during ops. Still enjoying the people just mentioning I hope we can get it straight

Is there any way to mass add a bunch of the people on the list to my friends?

This game is insane! I'm being quoted for things I never said!

Well the new patch is buggy as all heck! I've had about 6 crashes today, compared to about 1 in the last week or so.

The biggest issue seems to be this weird desync issue where the game thinks you are at the warpgate on the landing pad. Symptoms include:

1. Invulnerable vehicle
2. Vehicle resupplies it's own ammo out of thin air.
3. Enemies are only visible within a certain radius of the warpgate, else completely invisible. (but they can still see you)

I didn't fully realize what was going on until I rammed a Liberator head on with my scythe and it didn't take a scratch! In retrospect me and Renji ran into this problem earlier in the morning where we were flying his libby over Hvar and couldn't see the enemies. What's even stranger about this is that when I got out of the scythe and shot it a few times with my shotgun I could damage it. This should be impossible inside a warpgate.

Whelp... I tried again.

Sorry to crap on what everyone is enjoying, but IMO this is just not a good game. Well... not a good game for ME.

I get little joy in capturing a base, and huge frustration in not being able to capture one. First off, it's entirely incumbent on who happens to be playing at the moment. Second, I just don't see the point. When I spawn into a hot zone, I'm killed fairly quickly rushing toward a capture point. If I spawn into a safe zone, it's pretty boring, or I have to travel miles to get to the action. There's no in between. I've never been part of any pitched battles that goes back and forth... at least that I've been aware of. The game is terrible at communicating info. I've yet to experience any of the stories that everyone is having.

Is the appeal the leveling aspect? Or just grouping with friends? I'm sorry, but I just don't get it...

I just feel this game is too obtuse. There's really no story, and certainly no way to win - or lose I guess for that matter now that I think of it. What am I missing?

You win when everyone gives up and realize in a world where everyone is cloned upon death there can be no winners. Then we will all sit down for a nice game of chess of tick tac toe.

Rushing towards an objective is a sure-fire way to get killed. PS2 is very much *not* a game like Battlefield or Team Fortress. Although you'll see a stream of folks running around like lunatics, the successful people are the ones who move tactically. If you're solo, use some of your certs to get a 3-4x scope on your primary weapon, and hang around the fringe of contested areas picking people off. If there's a pitched battle, jump in as a medic or engineer to help out with the vehicles or healing until you get a feel for the ebb and flow of how battles work. If you see a convoy of vehicles, jump into a vehicle of your own and join up. Find contested areas that your faction has to defend, and spawn there.

Cover, concealment, and getting the drop on your enemy is everything. And there's no satisfaction like getting behind a particular annoying sniper and taking him out.

The game certainly isn't for everyone, and I've had to quit before when I felt my frustration level rising. Getting into a voice-coordinated group will give you the best feel for how the game should be played. If that doesn't work for you, then PS2 may not be for you. But hey, at least the price was right.

This is a social game. Period. If you don't have a group of friends to play with, you are probably not going to enjoy the experience.

Played another couple of hours last night. Still can't find any GWJers in the game. But at least I'm getting the hang of things. Switching between NC and VS gets confusing, I forget who I'm supposed to shoot for just long enough to get killed. But was still pretty fun. Though, any suggestions on the best way to jump between combat zones? The Redploy function seems to have a 10 minute cooldown and there's no "instant action" button.

I didn't think redeploy has a cooldown.. the instant deploy (drop pod) into battle areas has a cooldown. Redeploy is basically the same as a suicide, you can spawn at any normal spawn points. Usually if I'm just looking for some action while playing solo I find a sunderer in enemy territory to spawn at.

Come visit us on Ventrilo.

I'm really enjoying the liberator, especially now that my tankbuster main cannon has 8 extra rounds in it, enough to down a liberator in one burst. It's pretty great getting up to the ceiling then surprising an enemy liberator with a 2 second burst of hot death.

My current problem is framerate. I finally found how to change continents and moved to one that isn't entirely owned by another faction, so there's more combat (rather than getting steamrolled), but when I went to join the fray, my system lagged so badly it was unplayable.
I turned down all the quality options to low and even set the draw quality to 50%, the lowest it goes.
Normally I wouldn't ask for computer help on a forum (I'm a nerd guy... it's anathema!) but does anyone have any further ideas? For comparison, I can play Guild Wars 2 and WoW with all the settings on mid-to-max and no problems.

Heads up: Quantum Dawn will be closing recruitment temporarily on Dec 20 to stop the rapid growth and let people become familiar with each other. If you want in do it soon!

Yeah, redeploy works, but it works only on valid spawn points. I want to spawn where the action is instead of trekking around. Cause I'm lazy. Probably just need to figure out this whole vehicle business. I can sometimes catch a ride, but that's not always the case. I try to spawn at sunderers when I can, those are usually at the point of action.

I've been avoiding it until now, since I already have mumble and didn't want to get two voice clients. But it sounds like it would be a good idea. So I will try that tonight.

I really do think there is something really great in this game. It just takes a while to get to it. It's really giving me a good Starship Troopers and Forever War vibes.

If you have a decent video card, you will want to turn UP your settings. That's because the game run low graphics settings off of your CPU, but it runs high graphics settings off of your graphics card. This is totally non-intuitive, but give it a try.

Try opening up UserOptions.ini and reducing the RenderDistance manually. Right now it's set to 99999 by default, but realistically you should only need about 4000.

Try turning off "desktop composition" when running PlanetSide2.exe (right click->properties->compatibility->disable desktop composition).

I need to get re-invited to the outfit. My son's been alt hopping on Waterson and he keeps deleting mah toonz!

Logged on for a few minutes this morning after installing the patch, and I was lagging so bad I just gave up. My system isn't great, but I was running OK before the patch, usually around 25-35 FPS with my CPU listed as the bottleneck. Now I'm lucky to get 15. Going to try tweaking it when I get some time, and I'm thinking of OC'ing the CPU (Core2 Quad 2.67GHz, was reading I can OC it to 3.2 or so with my current cooling and it still be stable... might help a little).

Why the heck doesn't this update through steam. I got it on steam why doesn't it update through steam.

Correction my server is Jaegar. Faction: Vanu.

Huh! I never would have considered that. I'll give it a change when I get home. Thank you for the help!

If the non-GWJ guild thing is locking its doors, can we create a GWJ guild?

TheHipGamer wrote:

I would think that we have planty of peeps to create one.
(Shh, i created a Vanu guy on Waterson where my TR guy is! hehe, and NO i won't spy for you!)

Quite honestly, if you guys are just going to make a squad of just 12 people, there is no reason to make an outfit. Outfits are meant to have at least 2 squads on at all times. This is why I never created one. We had a GWJ outfit in the beta but it never worked. We never had enough people to do things.

Save your outfit slot for a real outfit and just squad up when you want to play in vent.

I'm really not liking this patch much. I was *just* about to subscribe for one month and then the patch hit. Some of the changes I really hate.

1. They totally killed Scarred Mesa Skydock. It used to be the only base (afaik) that you couldn't assault by ground unless you were a light assault. This forced people to actually use tactics to take it over like galaxy drops and squad beacons. But now they got rid of two of the landing pads and put in a fricken JUMP PAD that leads to the ground. BORING.

2. They gave flak a blanket 5% damage increase and buffed the projectile speed of phalanx turrets. Now phalanx flak can hit stuff accurately out to maximum view range because the projectiles no longer arc. This makes the turrets RATHER POWERFUL, to say nothing of burster MAXes who we STILL can't see half the time.

3. They nerfed fighter rocket damage against phalanx turrets by about 40%. This change on it's own was long due, but when you combine it with the flak buffs it makes life too difficult for fighters. If you start getting hit by just ONE turret you are pretty much dead unless you are already in the process of running away.

4. The changes to the tech plant make it far too easy to invade them. If an enemy force shows up at the gate, unless there is an equally sized defending force already in the plant with sunderer deployed the whole base folds like a wet rag. It's like trying to defend an amp station that doesn't have any walls. If they had kept the teleporter this would have been a cool change, but it just sucks as it is. The spawn room is just too far away from everything.

I haven't seen firsthand the effects of the tech plant change. I do know that something needed to be done, because previously tech plants were tedious to capture.

I'm happy about the rocket-pod/anti-aircraft changes. Pre-patch, people were using aircraft to kill anti-air units, which was as ridiculous as it sounds.

It's not ridiculous. Skyguards are still lightning tanks, they are not supposed to be any more tougher than a regular lightning. Same with MAX units. In fact the patch only changed the damage scaling of the splash, direct hits were not affected and only direct hits hurt vehicles. It was only the phalanx that needed a buff, but combined with the flak buff it's a little much.

It occurs to me that the problem isn't the ESFs, it's the rocket-pods. Can you imagine if there were MAX-mounted rocket-pods? Nobody would ever use any other weapon.

They broke my underslung rocketpods. The grenade launcher has been completely unreliable since the patch.
