Ingress: The Google ARG

PICK ME GOOGLEZ ... PICK ME!!!

Still waiting for an invite. You guys are making this sound awesome

I haven't gotten as much into it as I would like. I went Enlightened simply because my area is mostly Resistance and I thought it would be easier to gain AP that way. (And you Resistance types are just pawns of the Government, man! The NIA is just using you to keep us all in the dark! ;)) The problem is that I have to go out of my way to get to a Portal; I have to make a special trip just to spend 5 seconds hacking one. So unless I am actually going to the library or the post office or whatever I usually don't bother.

The only one I hit consistently is a historical marker that happens to be on a corner where I get caught by the red light about once or twice a week. So I'm still level 1.

Submit some new portals near you. They take a couple weeks to get into the system, but then you'll have more to work with. Take a photo of a good public location and you should be able to submit it right from the camera app.

Drama in Seattle!

I kinda wish I could change factions. There are plenty of portals between home and work but they're all controlled by my faction and there is zero competition from the other side around here. I'd love nothing more than to turncoat and wreak some havoc.

Late to the thread but I'd take an invite when one shakes out. I live deliciously close to Baltimore which, I'm told, is a hotbed of activity.

I wonder how it compares to the DC Metro area.

Is there any way to see current maps or get an idea of local activity levels if you don't yet have a login?

You're allowed to switch sides once.

Ask nice people for screenshots. That's the only way so far.

Hello nice people. What's happening centered on zip code 14625?

Looks like all blue, all the time there.

Double post for extra resistance.

I would love to have an invite if someone has one to spare.

The mind unit numbers are separated by several orders of magnitude, and green is a lot higher. Is that reflective of the area inside the map, or some other region?

It's a bug. Generally they're both withing +/- 5% of each other.

Is there a way to see the map before picking a side during the new player process? I guess I'd like a look at the McLean, VA and general DC trends before I get an invite, too.

Yeah, once your account is activated you're neutral during the training. You'll have access to the Intel map though. That's how I decided to go Resistance for my area.

Your tutorial time is neutral... You pick your side when you finish. Also find the G+ pages for your area, since there's usually a good amount of public-facing info there.

Edit: liquidhausered!

The numbers earlier were so different because Niantic is decaying portals by hand and the colored fields (that count toward the mind count) are breaking up. The rumor is that they're going to go open beta soon and some of the changes and bugs are part of prep for that, but who knows.

I made an Ingress Clubhouse section in the GWJ Google+ community, and I'm putting more stuff there just out of convenience.

Also, let me know if you want to be added to my Ingress circle because I'm trying not to spam up people that don't want to see game-related stuff.

I'd appreciate an invite if anyone is offering. Yep yep. Surely would.

Currently on an epic walkabout in downtown Kirkland with 13 other people... we're making a lunch stop now but it is a sea of nerds and Androids and Nexi of various sizes.

And, of course, the requisite uniform of Timbuk2 bags, hoodies/peacoats, jeans, and Apple augmentation.

Edit: our waitress is COMPLETELY fascinated by this.

More edit: someone hooked her up with an invite- one more for the resistance!

Nice! Ingress pub crawl!

[Edit] Hmm, bad idea. A group of increasingly inebriated folks looking suspicious while making repeat visits to fire departments and post offices probably won't end well.

Cliff Notes: I am trying...and I'm failing.

I'm in! Woot!

I'm going to go back and edit my original request to reflect my new status as a member of the Enlightened.

But. . . holy COW do I have a lot of work to do in my area. Almost every portal around me is level 3+, and for the Resistance.

Including the two portals RIGHT at the end of my street. Those are officially going to be mine. . . as soon as I get the XMPs to take 'em down. And a bunch of help. :/

I'm here to beg for a chance to help the Enlightened assist the Shapers to better mankind. :-D

I have secured a code. Woo-hoo!

Going Enlightened in a Resistance area is actually a good thing because its easier to get AP. You get AP for simply hacking an enemy portal but not for one your side controls.

Yeah, from a gamer/metagamer perspective - this is great because of all the AP/Levels I stand to gain.

In-character however. . . this sucks.

It's also gonna be hard to save up items this way, but everything is a tradeoff.

A bit of hilarity round these parts.

Dinged level 2 last night, by taking over an empty portal. I'm planning a trip to Chinatown over the weekend that'll probably see me hit level 3, and get a butt-ton of items.

In the middle of coordinating a smuggling run/key swap for our upcoming trip to Vancouver. International control fields imminent!

Tangle: try the multihack... Turn your sound up and hit hack portal / ok to cancel a few times, then when you let the hack run the third or fourth time, you will get more items.

I just got word from a fellow local player that multihacking has been fixed server-side. I'm interested in seeing if it's affected everyone or if he's just crazy.
