Guild Wars 2 Guild organization thread.

too many new games coming out + people needing a break and/or getting bored.

also, I think that as we go forward, the players that are committed to the game will probably look for guilds that are more focused or dedicated.

Wife and I have been on, though we've been bouncing between GWJ and personal guilds to earn extra (guild bank) storage. Got mine, working on hers.
We'd love to do some dungeons - she's 40ish, I'm 80, we've never seen a story mode dungeon yet.

If we're not representing (DuckiLama and duckideva), just shoot a tell if you need dungeon folks. If I can get enough monies, I'll just buy the influence for her and we can stop swapping. So expensive, though.

might be cheaper to convert the gold to gems and just buy extra bank slots, they are wonderful and much easier to access than a private guild bank(crafting station access).

or maybe just outright buy some gems for it, a bank slot or two would make a great stocking stuffer

Not with current Gold->Gem conversion. Last I check, it was close to 2g/100gems. I have a grand total 7g to my name. Which would wipe me out to not even get a bank tab.

Also, the Guild Bank stuff can be done in-game by just playing. It just takes time, the fewer players earning influence, the longer.

Edit: Per http://www.gw2spidy.com/gem (bold mine)

100 gems sells for 1 g 39 s 34 c .
100 gems costs 1 g 92 s 86 c to buy.
100 gems costs 1.25 USD to buy.
1 g costs 0.90 USD to buy through gems.

As much as I'd love to be on, I've been trying to diminish my pile lately... Will try to log on for Wintersday events though.

Yeah, the gem/gold ratio is really high right now. I remember the good old days when you could buy 100 gems for around 70 silver. The suggestion of gem cards as stocking stuffers is a good one though.

Yeah, I need to be out for a few months for connectivity reasons. Hopefully I can be back in the new year.

Just burned out for now, I had like 250 hours for just one char. Every night I jumped in and no one wanted to do any dungeons and I was a bit tired of trying to 100% the map. I'm sure I'll come back eventually but I'm taking a break. Maybe I'll pop in for the holiday achievement...

Woohoo! Got a gem card for my birthday! Bank tabs here I come!

I'm on regularly, still having a good time cruising my way through zones and working toward 80. I've been doing a couple of explore dungeon runs each night as well. I find it all pretty relaxing and it's kind of pleasant to just cruise the countryside harvesting nodes and doing hearts and DEs. My third toon will probably hit 80 tonight or tomorrow, but I think I'll stick with this one for a bit longer as I'm really enjoying the engineer with a condition/pistol build.

I tried a bit of WvW again last night, but it just isn't grabbing me. I feel like I'm either part of the zerg and therefore not contributing in a significant way (the difference between 29 or 30 people rushing is pretty small) or I'm not doing much at all.

Really depends when you log in, there was a while were it was pretty quiet for dungeons, but these days we have quite a few more people looking to do them I think.

Do try to come back for wintersday, should be fun. The holiday patch will also be associated with a big class balance patch so even if you're not into the event stuff there should be interesting class changes.

So, it would seem that I received a copy of this for Christmas. Hopefully the guild is on Northern Shiverpeaks (as per the OP), as I didn't read the entire thread yet.

Not sure when I'l have a chance to really jump in and play yet, but hope to hook up with the GWJ crew when I do!

Wow, that's one sweet Christmas present! Yup, we're still on the Northern Shiverpeaks server, just follow the OP's instructions, and see you in there!!

WvW sucked until I got in with a guild that ran coordinated groups for it. Then the tactics and strategy start playing a role, and it becomes way more than zerg vs zerg.

Alright.

So several months have passed since the games launch and as would naturally be expected with a game like this we have far fewer active guildies that in the early weeks. We still have a great core of players and we're always looking for new people to join us and for old faces to come back.

So, just to get our bearings and have a better idea of how many people we have playing regularly, I have created a new rank called "active member". Over the next few weeks the guild officers give this rank to players they see on the roster who are online and representing as GWJ guild members. This rank has the same privileges afforded to the old member rank, but if you encounter any issues please let us know.

For a newcomer, that sounds fair. I do plan on representing my mini-guild too, but I really enjoyed shooting the breeze with this new family of mine. There are nights I will play with my friend or my nephew, but when I'm not "scheduled" to play with them, I really enjoy the banter of many other people.

Thank you for accepting us into the guild, and I hope to be able to join all of you in lots of different activities/adventures!!

Yeah no worries. You and your friend are already listed as active members. It's really something that will help us figure out just who we can expect to see online on a day to day basis. Besides that, it shouldnt change anything to your play experience in GWJ.

Just remember that this is the busy season for a lot of folks, and MMORPGs are often the first to fall off the things to do daily list.
End of Term finals, end of year accounting, Christmas planning and shopping and preparing, travelling home/to family, etc.
Because of our demographic, it's completely expected to see *fewer* folks playing more frequently.

Not saying the roster doesn't need cleaning up, just saying that the last 4 weeks of the year are often a time that grown-ups with jobs and families don't have the time, connection, or access to play actively.

Just my 2c.

From the sound of it, it's not a roster clean up. No one's getting booted from the guild, it's just a different rank with the same permissions.

I agree. I don't think this is the right time to evaluate players active status. Many people got shiny new games and other things to do for the holidays and may be far more sporadic in GW2 than they otherwise will be. If we want to do a member update like this I think it should wait until late Feb early March.

Another concern is adding another layer to administration. How do you keep it accurate? Just because I mark someone as active tomorrow doesn't mean he can't then log off and then not log in for 2 months. In 6 months the active member rank is going to be just as unreliable as just the current member rank now.

I think in the future, officer moves like this should be discussed before they are just done. There are enough of us active here in this thread to make good decisions

Edit: Just to be clear, this particular thing isn't a big deal just talking about the future.

which is why I am not sure its necessary. an offline active member rank has the same result as an offline current member rank and if either is online then it still doesn't matter. About the only use of this is a rough guess of how many total people have logged in in the last however long as some officer has noticed. That really only matters if you are deciding to jump to a more active guild, which also doesn't matter since you can be in a bunch.

To add another point to it not really being necessary (if that's the purpose), the guild log itself will tell you how many members logged in on a given day, just look at the influence logs.

we've got over 300 members.. but how many of those haven't played the game since September and don't really plan on coming back?

this isn't for any culling purpose but just to gather data on our own population. since for some reason the "last logged in on x" feature is still missing from the guild interface, this has been the recommended method to gauge active membership.

honestly, i wish we had done this 2 months ago.

The guild influence log has entries that say something to the effect of "X members logged in earning Y influence."

That doesn't tell us if it's the same 15 ppl that log in every day or if we see about 15 ppl daily from a pool of 100 ppl that play once a week.

What's the downside to having more information?

Regardless of how "necessary" or not it may be, since there's no cost and little effort required.. I don't get the resistance.

I wasn't trying to start anything, just pointing out that for a lot of folks, December is the anti-MMO month.

With the lack of useful Guild management features in... uh... Guild Wars, I totally understand why one would do things this way. It does raise the question of what you do next time. And the time after that. 300 folks would be a lot to manage WITH good tools. I'm glad I don't have to keep the roster up to date.

I remember in GW1 that you could see how long it had been since the last time your guildmates logged in. I hadn't thought about it before now, but now I'm shocked that you can't do this in GW2.

I'm definitely not logging on on a daily basis, no matter how great my love for GW2. My pile is just sooo huge, and I've got a few big work "things" coming up in January, but I definitely plan on sticking around. I haven't even hit 80 yet!

Yes to repeat, it's not at all a roster cleanup. Just an opportunity to take stock. I know the logs tell you how many individual members logged in and collected influence, but I'm sure we have quite a few people who aren't on every day or dont even earn influence while they are on. The new rank is otherwise identical to the old rank and there is no additional administrative responsibility whatsoever. We"ll be doing this over the next few weeks, so I really doubt timing is an issue.

December might be the worst MMO month but we've picked up more new active members this week than in the 3-4 weeks prior. It's as good a time as any.

As for managing stuff for the next time it'll be relatively straightforward based on how the guild tools are now. At least that much is well done. I agree though, under GW1 that information would have been trivial to obtain, and I really hope the big update coming in Feb (I think) that they have been talking about will include a guild management overhaul. In essence I know what I would do next, but I expect that by that time it wont be necessary.

100% agree. However, in this case it's just information gathering with essentially no downside for anyone. Additionally, there is pretty much no easy way to discuss things with officers or even see which officers are still active. So given these circumstances I really hope this initiative didn't rub anyone the wrong way (apologies if this caught anyone off guard).

well for the record I am still a very active officer though my play hours are normally off hours compared to most
