It worked fine for me.
I haven't had trouble either.
No u!
Future: mortgaged!
I feel like I'm done with the offseason and free agency.
When does Spring Training start?
Heck, I don't have the money to make any further offers. Stupid Farscry and his stupid ignorance about wheeling and dealing when he joined the league.
Damn you and your insufferably expensive contract, Jon Reed! At least so far he's been an outstanding player, but not quite enough to justify his fee (IMO).
They never are, are they?
Every once in a while they are! But yeah, rarely.
Yeah, I'm gonna follow Pred's lead and put my Woody Wallace out there too. He's been my work horse for the past few years, but I'm looking to make my rotation younger. Wallace is 37 so I'm not looking to get a whole lot in return, mainly mid-level prospects.
Well, I'm back (until tomorrow). Doesn't look like the AI did too bad for me. Not happy to see Derek McCoy down to one star. Ouch.
Pred, depending on how my offers turn out I have some prospects you might be interested in:
Jerry Hebert (AAA) fielding wizard (20s across the board in all 3 outfield spots), played in majors 2012 and 2013, batting is average. Under salary control until 2018, when he's arbitration eligibile.
Fernando Silva, LF (20 rating) or RF (11 rating), speed demon (20s across the board in speed categories). OBP is fairly high (through AAA), OPS around .750-775. No major league time, so a bit of time to keep him under salary control.
My free agent money could be very wacky next year, so I'd prefer to trade for free agents in the last year of high priced contracts.
I'm in need of a middle infielder (badly), MR, SP, and possibly catcher.
This same offer goes for anyone on my roster (not strictly limited to the players listed, but don't even think about Francis Riley) looking to get rid of a high priced player in the last year of their contract.
Herman Cherry *AND* Clayton Green going to Brooklyn?
The massive 1st year combined salary for those two roughly equals my entire team payroll.
I blame the open bar at the Winter meeting.
'Hey Clayton, come pitch for me, I'll pay you 60 million dollars this season.'
'Let me think about it for a second. Um, okay.'
I had to do something dramatic, f*cker wouldn't sign, and I've been spinning my wheels for years now. Jay-Z stepped up with a minority ownership bid that brought some front-loading cash to the table.
Holy crap, that'sa lotta simoleons!

I suspect he wouldn't sign because I kept offering him insane 1 year deals :). You're only paying him 100,000 or so more than I would have, except you've got him for 2 more years. When I started negotiating with him I think he was asking around $30 mil a season for 3-4 years.
Well, I had to think of it as a 3 year, 38/per deal, just strangely structured. And I knew I was potentially bidding against the AI, which put me in this frame of mind:
To be honest, I would have rather paid him even more in the first year, perhaps in the realm of 65/20/30, but I brought it under 60mil because I thought you guys might get mad at me. Which... seems to have been inevitable.
Yeah, even I saw that and did a double-take, thinking it was some crazy AI team manager at first.
Brookyln is making some big splash in the FA market. I'm making moves hoping to keep Pittsburgh competitive for next few years. So the pressure is on Baltimore and Boston then? NL East should be a fun division this season.
Wait, you paid $60 mil for one season? Wow. Guess I won't have the top payroll this year.
Yeah, but he's getting 20 mil in year two!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (keels over and dies)
I tried to do something similar with Clayton, as I thought it might push me over the top, but I didn't have that kind of cash to grind through.

My free agent budget for this year vs next year gets VERY weird, which is why you're seeing some bizarre offers (no, it's not the AI, I don't think I've ever seen it do this even:)). I had something like $80 mil to blow this year but only something around $35 mil in free agent money expected for year 2.
I've had to do some similar contortions. I have an offer out now for $11MM, $9.5MM, $16MM, $19MM (team option year, heh) to make the numbers work out.
