Ingress: The Google ARG

I would love an invite as well!

If anyone has an invite left, hook a gamer up

I would also like an invite, please.

Denver looks like a fun playground... closer to home I'm going to have to do some exploration... maybe suggest a few portals.

Yeah, I think they really need to expand the number of portals. Depending on where you are it might be very difficult to level up because you can't do much of anything. Level one portals can only link up to 160m.

You can suggest new portals, it just takes 2-3 weeks for them to work their way into the system because they're added manually.

Basically they want points of interest.

Thanks captainchaos!

The irony of this, combined with your zombie avatar is making my head hurt.

I've been seeing a *lot* of new names in game lately. I think they let in another round of people who signed up at ingress.com.

Also, trying for more invites using this post: https://plus.google.com/111720819144...

Checked my inbox, but nothing yet. Seeing as how I only signed up yesterday this isn't surprising.

Had a friend forward an invite someone at his wife's work (she works for Google) sent him, but it seems it had been passed on already when he said he was already in-game.

So close, and yet so far.

On the upside, she said she's gonna ask around at work today, so I might get lucky today.

Ya know, that makes me think. If they are really a force of good, why not be more up front about it? I came here undecided and leave shouting, "viva la resistance!"

Werd, Clover!

Do you need an Android phone for this, or would it work on a tablet as long as you happen to be near a WiFi hot spot?

Yeah, it doesn't care what the device is, as long as you have GPS and Internet connectivity.

Not really pertinent, but when I went out with the kids this weekend I tethered my iPad and ran the web page on that. That was great because the web page is how you recon portals. The app is a scanner that is fixed on your position with limited zoom out. Best you can do with the app is put it "compass" mode and turn around so you can get a bit more "reach". To hunt for portals though you have to use http://ingress.com/intel .

I'd love an invite. I'm outside the DC area, so it would be fun to tag all the monuments in downtown.

You can rotate out if compassion mode but twisting 2 fingers on the scanner map.

Nice! That's better than spinning like a top.

RoughneckGeek rustled up this handy-dandy portal calculator.

Will throw a collection party for an invite!

Wow, look what happened out here yesterday. I'm going on a portal hacking jaunt today, but man...

Just got invited by Google, and surprisingly there's some action going on here in NC. I see Coldforged is out there raising a ruckus too.

Invite please? <3

Google hasn't provided me with any yet. Sorry.

People are getting hardcore here, passing vehicle descriptions and stuff on portal campers.

I randomly met two other people while waiting for a bus at the transit center today, not in person, but we were talking over the faction chat. We were probably all 500 feet from each other but no one knew what the others looked like... it was pretty funny.

SERIOUS BUSINESS

4:02PM [secure] RuntimeError: @fieldsofclover I'm about to take out the last portal if you want to link
5:54PM [secure] RuntimeError: And here they come to reclaim Kirkland =(
5:54PM [secure] Agoshian: yup

7:26PM [secure] JimboSpoon: i'm going to go replace some of the missing resonators, and see what i can do on the library. dude didn't put any portal shields on it
7:34PM [secure] treetopflyer: i might try and link kingsgate library with Cottage lake library & Redmond
8:02PM [secure] Thundercleese: watch recharge in redmond if you have keys, they just took FD and likely will move to town hall
8:10PM [secure] Thundercleese: redmond town hall under attack

I don't have any invites yet, but when I get a couple I'll post here.

Late to the thread but I'd take an invite when one shakes out. I live deliciously close to Baltimore which, I'm told, is a hotbed of activity.

I wonder how it compares to the DC Metro area.

Ingress Field Guide[/url]]This table lists all the possible actions you can perform and what base AP amount you earn for successfully performing the action.

Action Action Points
Hack a portal (Neutral or Enemy) 100 AP
Hack a portal (Own Faction) 0 AP
Recharge a Portal 0 AP
Place a resonator (new resonator) 125 AP
Upgrade a resonator 0 AP
Capturing a portal (place the first resonator) 500 AP
Complete a portal (place the eighth resonator) 250 AP
Link two portals 313 AP
Establish a control field 1250 AP
Apply a portal shield 150 AP
Destroy a resonator 75 AP
Destroy a link 187 AP
Destroy a control field 750 AP

This table lists the possible Access Levels and your capabilities at that level.

Level AP Threshold XM Capacity
1 0 3000
2 10,000 4,000
3 30,000 5,000
4 70,000 6,000
5 150,000 7,000
6 300,000 8,000
7 600,000 9,000
8 1,200,000 10,000

Edit: I didn't know this until now. Useful!

The only defense against resonator decay, is to recharge your resonators. I have some good news for you, you do not need to physically be at a resonator in order to recharge it, if you are not within range of the resonator, you merely need to have one of it's Portal Key's.

To test this out for yourself, click "OPS" from your Ingress Scanner and filter by "Portal Key" and select a portal that is a significant distance from you. You will be view the portals current status and if you have enough energy, recharge the portal from your current location.

At this time, I do not know if there is a maximum range (possibly the portals linking range?), but there is an efficiency indicator implying that the further away you are, you will recharge the portals less of a % per attempt.
