Interesting Kickstarter Catch-All

The Island of Cthulhu
Beyond the fact that they're Kickstarting what is going to be a free mod (to be fair, they're not asking for much), I found two of the tiers to be amusing...

Pledge $10 or more - An in game brick placed in a hidden location showing your name. Serving as a list of the people that helped build cthulhu's caves.

Pledge $25 or more - A physical copy of the in game map that shows the location of your in game brick.

It definitely continues to get a push on Twitter (at least from the peeps I follow). I worry this could be another $28 story (http://www.giantbomb.com/news/a-day-...).

With only 5K left to go, it looks like SFis in for a close success. The early risers in Europe didn't let us down, giving a few thousand in just a few hours.

Sometimes, good prevails.

Christmas came early. Now we just have to wait until next Christmas for our presents.

Alpha builds for this Christmas!

Whooo hooo!!!! This is wonderful!

Hmmm... to up to $60 or not?

Bill Abner is Kickstarting Tomorrow.

Is that the same Bill Abner of Gameshark/No High Scores fame?

Indeed it is. Well, at least No High Scores, I confess to not being familiar with Gameshark.

And he's a really nice guy. I sat and chatted with him for a bit over dinner at PenCon.

I know a few people had a chance to play Tomorrow, but I wasn't one of them.

Awesome, I've play tested this game twice now at PenCon(s). Can't wait to get my hands on it so I can finish depopulating the world.

Now to keep an eye out for cheap move controllers...

And just popped at the $30 level, just for the alphas of JS Joust

Ick. Sportsfriends just dropped like 7K and is just over their 150K threshold. Looks like I'll be biting my nails this afternoon.

How does that happen? People pledging just for kicks, then backing out when it looks like it's going to go through?

Up to ~$1.5K of wiggle-room right now. 108 minutes go go.

EDIT: @Teneman, I'm guessing that people are dropping down from higher tiers after they see it's fully funded with no stretch goals.

While going to check on the shenanigans of SportsFriends, noticed this wonder on the front page

Sounds awesome, but I weep for the ruined wood tables in the future.

EDIT:

Dammit. Sportsfriends is back down to just a few hundred over 150K.

Good news for Sportsfriends, if I remember correctly, once a pledge makes its goal, you can't decrease your pledge to the point that it would unfund the kickstarter. So there is that at least.

Sportsfriends is funded, no matter what. If it drops below its goal in the last 24 hours, it doesn't matter.

Did the die-maker account for tarnishing? I don't know how deterioration would affect the brass or copper die. I may put in for some stainless-steel die but I am concerned that even the 1.9 ounce stainless-steel die will tear up tables and boards. She might want to include some sort of rolling platform that won't be obnoxiously loud and save our precious game-boards and table-tops.

In the comments she seems to be suggesting these are mostly display pieces. Or that if you want to roll them, get a rubber mat. Plenty of time to turn that into a stretch goal though!

I put in for the set of 6 aluminum, but whatever I get would have to be at a set of 6.

I'm a huge Warmachine/Hordes player, and the most dice you'll ever be rolling is 6d6 (5d6 in damage, 1d6 for location). I've already asked if she'll do different anodized colors in a single order (if not, no big deal, anodizing at home isn't that hard).

In the comments, a lot of people are asking for damascus steel, which I would upgrade to in a heartbeat.

For those not in the know, here's an example of damascus steel:

The project description goes into great detail about how they're weighted to be nearly exactly statistically even. Seems odd that people want to put them on display. It would be like buying a platinum flute for its' ideal sound and then framing it and never playing it.

In the comments she suggested that she's considering offering tumbled versions. I'm still confused as to why she went through all the work of having the die be perfectly balanced but not intend to use them for rolling them...

That was seriously closer than it should've been. Especially for a game that's been at several industry events over the last year or two. So I looked at my backer history, and not having an established name to draw the hits/dollars seems to be a worrying trend.

EDIT: And they're still in danger of going under the goal if some of the Amazon payments don't clear :\ Hopefully they've taken that into account when they set their goal.

All I want for Christmas is to kick a move controller out of my brother's hand and gloat about it for the rest of the day. Is that so much to ask?

Some of my friends just launched a Kickstarter for the game they've been working on: Galaxy for Hire. It's a hero-based tower defense game.

One day someone is going to try to revolutionize the genre and make a hero-based tower defence base-building MOBA, then finally end up with an exact duplicate of Warcraft III.

Latest stretch goal looks like a lot of fun: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/evilhat/fate-core/posts/366614

"Shadow of the Century" takes the world from their game "Spirit of the Century" into the 1970s and 80s, to give us a game for A-Team, Knight Rider, Charlie's Angels, etc style action adventure.

I find this one to be quite interesting.

Yeah, that one excites me a lot. I'm a sucker for 80s action shows/films.

Just read this on The Escapist : 'Code Hero Kickstarter Goes Bad'

The delivery of various backer rewards, all of which were rather oddly scheduled for February 2012 - odd because the Kickstarter didn't end until February 24 - apparently never happened, and worse, Peake seems to have walked away from the project.

The whole article you can find here and the kickstarter with reactions here.

I remember reading about it when it was still ongoing. And thought it was a cool project. Seems not all people are legit or honest though.
