Dark Souls Catch-All

You can over-level your potential co-op partners, too.

Playing co-op for boss fights feels so much like MMO raiding, in a really good way.

Being a console player the only MMO games I've ever played before were Phantasy Star Online & Universe though I enjoyed them quite a bit. Been put off MMO's since haven't been seriously employed up until recently though I might have to start reconsidering them.

Had a good time helping out another person last night, I could tell from their gear that they went very heavy strength (stone shield & Dark knight sword in one hand or some such) so I knew without endurance they'd have had a really tough time taking on Ornstein & Smough alone. Took a few goes though we got it in the end

The thing is, the benefits from levelling stats is typically so marginal that it is almost completely overwhelmed by being more skillful. The few times I did any grinding was when I needed the odd stat point in order to wield something.

This is very true, though for me and I'm sure a lot of gamers I had a tough time stomaching being bad at the game for a long time in the beginning ('gamers pride' I guess). Also learning to just run past enemies helps a lot too.

I only really realised this too late last night, though there still seem quite a few around my level (48) so it wasn't all bad.

The main thing I've learned when it comes to the Souls games is that you need to fight on your own terms as much as possible. The only section I can think of in the entire game where you can't turn things to your own advantage is the Silver Knight Archers in Anor Londo that hang out on those thin ledges. It is pretty much only that spot where you are forced to fight in a position that completely favors the enemy.

Capra Demon is close second to that as far as I can see.

I'd put it in first. Ugh.

About to start the DLC content! Finished crafting my boss soul weapons for this playthrough!

Good luck! So far it's been really cool but really hard.

Beat the first DLC boss, then dropped my SunBros sign and helped others with him twice. Fun times! Haven't co-oped in a while, still love it!

I'm constantly amazed by the variety of builds that players use in Dark Souls. I've been summoned into the Sanctuary Garden fight four times now. One host used a bow the entire time! I don't know why, but I'd assumed a bow was really not suitable as a main weapon in this game, and certainly not for boss fights. I know there's a Hunter class you can start with, but I wrote that off as I do the Thief class as not a "real" build. But it looks like I was wrong!

Sequel trailer played during the VGAs. Commence rejoicement.

Dark Souls II. (kotaku video)

Double posting for enthusiasm.

YAY! I think it's safe to say that at this point the Souls series is my favorite game series of the last 5 years. The main equipment from the trailer looked sweet.

Hopefully we get to fight more dragons.

$HIT.

That's my reaction to the news; now I've got to go find the trailer. I'm DVRing the VGAs.

On the one hand, I want a sequel. On the other, I'd love for it to be next-gen, because of all the slowdown.

Holy crap.

Damn, Joystiq had the trailer, but it was taken down.

I linked it above.

It's not really that interesting. A lot like the original Dark Souls trailer. No gameplay, just a lot of cool scenery. Looked beautiful though, would not be surprised to find out it's next-gen.

I would triple dip for Dark Souls 2.

Thanks!

I think I agree with Blue. The trailer is not very interesting. The news is what's exciting. Hopefully we'll get a press release tomorrow or soon.

Part of me agrees, but the other part knows I will probably not be getting a next gen console until a while after release, and I'm doubtful this will come to PC until long after the consoles (if at all). I just want to be sure I'm able to play it.

Regardless, I'M PUMPED!

It's announced for PS3, 360 and PC from the outset, apparently.

I shall now borrow an animated gif from the Far Cry 3 thread to properly express my feelings at this:

Result. Guess the PC sales convinced.

Wow, great news. I haven't bought a game day one in ages, I can easily make an exception for this.

Shaaaawing.

If it's a straight pc port with crap resolution and refresh, I'll pre-order it day 1. If it's a real port with at least 1080/60 plus controller support, I'll buy two copies. IF they give me 1440/120 plus controller support, I'll take three just to say thanks!

Hot damn count me in the line day one.

Also another spot to see the trailer...
