Random thing you love right now that doesn't deserve its own thread

I'm a season behind still.

Book first?
Did it ruin the show for you?
I was able to enjoy Legend of the Seeker after the books. It was like a match up and spot the differences game.

Going to sleep with a fair bit of dread. Waking up, going to learn your fate, and finding out that you had the best possible outcome. Sorry for the vagueness, more will be revealed in a future post.

I wholeheartedly support pictures of gaming pussmaster generals! Here's a shot of my cat Fina (guess the game reference!) enjoying a PS2 game.

I also support that Ween avatar, mortalgroove. Ween, Dead Milkmen, Violent Femmes = BROTP

If it's not Skies of Arcadia, I am disappoint.

Bath time - My 8 month old daughter loves to splash in the water and it makes my whole night worth while.

My baby girl (11 months old) also loves bathtime. The faucet still confuses her though - any time it's on, she tries to grab the stream of water coming from it. It's both hilarious and adorable.

Goddamnit. You guys make me miss kids. I can't have any but god darn. I spent a year helping to raise a one year old and it was pretty cool.

Today's my last day of work for 2012! I need to use up a bunch of vacation days before the end of the year, so I'm taking the rest of December off. Today is a good day.

...and now my office is having a party with free beer. Today is a very good day.

Shalalm al Baskur!!!!

So chuffed I had to post it twice!

Cracking open a hard cider to cap off a weekend where I managed to not just get Wordpress working behind nginx+apache, but I also managed to convert most of the popular hardening script-kiddie blocking configs into a nginx-compatible format.

Now to add in some caching at the nginx level and I'm all set to move off my current shared hosting plan. Woot!

I love "food time" with the kitties. I laugh every time - that's twice a day... like a prescription.

Our dishwasher's control panel broke and it's too old to fix so we're getting a shiny new one later this week! Our cool landlady actually didn't just buy the cheapest one available and it's even to going to be stainless steel "so it'll match the other appliances when they eventually have to be replaced." I actually feel bad for her having to spend so much money in December, especially since she unexpectedly had to pay to replace our garage door and a light fixture in my office recently. But unlike my last two landlords who were massive pains in the arse, this lady's awesome, always makes stuff easy and doesn't just always go for the path of least expense.

If you haven't done so already, can I suggest that you tell her this? In a world full of negativity, a little genuine positive feedback can really make someone's day.

Given that it is December, why not write the feedback in a card that matches the season, and also include one of those gift baskets that seem to go over so well.

If you want to make one yourself, you could have a bit of fun with the 'landlady theme'. Fill it with duct tape, light globes, and other types of 'custodian' type elements, but they just act as inexpensive filler to keep the nice bottle of wine/champagne comfortable in the middle.

Just a thought

Spiced wine. An upcoming convention at the castle wants me to carry it, and sent me a bottle to try. Bottle says to serve it heated. Not so much. But when served at room temp - damn, this stuff is pretty good!

I've mentioned it to her before and yeah, we plan to get her a card and something or other as a token of appreciation for Christmas. She's a single Mom with a daughter who is 3 or 4 so it gives us all kinds of options. Even though we pay her for the "service", in a world where decent service is the distant exception as opposed to the rule, I always like to point it out to those who provide it.

So awesome - and for once that word is not being misused!

We put up the Christmas tree this weekend! It's so sparkly and Christmassy

We did the same, accompanied by squeals of delight from Thing 1 and Thing 2. Oh to be a kid again

RPS's Alec Meer writes a delightful and insightful article on some space soldier game you've probably never heard of.

I used Google-Sketch to make a Space-Hulk board piece for a 1-credit CS class. The professor ran the submissions through a 3d printer and organized a game from them for the class. Unfortunately, he didn't get around to it until I graduated. I guess I could try Space-Hulk now.

The idea of George C. Scott rising from the grave to play the character of General Patton in place of Scrooge in A Christmas Carol.

You do realize there is A Christmas Carol movie with George C. Scott as scrooge, right?

Yes. That is why I find it super funny if Scott played Patton in Scrooge's place. Oh god. I can see Patton slapping Cratchit (Critchit?) in the face and telling him to suck it up.

MARLEY, YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARD! I READ YOUR BOOK!
