Did you hear about that through Sacriel? I have seen a little bit of him playing it and it definitely looks fun and I'd like to try it out. So it isn't very difficult to get running?

6 Pacific is 9 my time so I might be on around then assuming I can get everything installed fairly easily. I'll definitely look you up.

Yeah, I saw a few videos from Sacriel and his squad playing Wasteland.
It seems like an easy setup. No need to use DayZ Commander or anything. Just have the latest beta patch for ARMA II OA installed and then turn off all other mods and search for a Wasteland server.
I found this video that goes through the process: http://youtu.be/zBQLHrempyI

I'll get the stream info posted once I'm back home and have everything set up and working.

I'll try to check that when I get off work so that it'll hopefully be ready when the time comes.

Ok I got it working (maybe)

Magik and I are on Vent and cruising around one of the Wasteland servers.
So far it's interesting.
EDIT: streaming on Twitch TV as of 9pm PST: http://www.twitch.tv/masher_66

I think it's time for me to come back to this thread:

How did this go? I ended up getting home much later than I thought I would and didn't get a chance to hop on. I tried jumping on a little on my own, tried 3 different servers, got TK'd 3+ times each server, and quit. Don't think I'll be playing this again w/o some GWJ'ers to play with.

I jumped on killed a bad guy on the way to an objective... followed another guy (guys?) in a car at night with the lights off. Ended up getting disconnected 5 minutes into the chase.

I didnt get back on the rest the weekend.

Seems fun, and it's weird because while it's Chenarus it's slightly different than DayZ's version.

Wasteland was pretty fun actually. It is (obviously) more PVP focused. It was nice finding vehicles everywhere and grabbing insane amount of military weapons. Not going to replace DayZ for me but a good practice to hone your PVP skills with this engine. Definitely more fun with people though. Masher and I had a nice run in with a bigger squad and defended a hilltop. Good times. Also Drove an SUV that had a minigun that Masher used. He never missed with that thing! 8)

I have been playing a lot of DayZplus also. It a cool little mod for Chernaraus that adds all sorts of stuff(like different weapons that are more Czech, new skins, NO AS50 or NVGs stuff like that) http://www.dayzplus.com/forum.php if anyone wnats to give it a shot. There is a US and a UK server.

Yeah, turns out the key to improving my "accuracy" is firing 2000 rounds per minute!

So, uh, I've been out of the game for a while.

I see that DayZ went community now that Rocket works on the standalone... but I don't know, uh, what's going on.

Anywhere I can go to see a breakdown of all the offshoots?

I'm sure this may have some kind of effect on the DayZ side, but Arma 3 has been pushed to 2013 (primarily while they restructure their team since 2 of them were arrested for espionage.)

You should install DayZ Commander. It makes the entire install and update of DayZ simple and has a constantly growing collection of lots of the most popular variants that you can install directly within its interface.
There is also DayZPlus and Drifter's Mod which are not covered (at least not yet) by DayZ Commander. They offer some nice variety as well.
Sorry, can't post links easily right now but a quick Google search will find them.
I'll be playing later today, so hop on the Vent server if you'd like some help.

I might be hopping on tonight as well. I've been missing me some DayZ lol

I'd like to play a little more of Namalsk since I've only gotten about an hour or two in it, but I'm down to play whatever the consensus choice is.

Thoroughly enjoying Taviana at the moment. You should give that a try!

This is the map my squad and I are playing on currently.

I've been playing on Survival Operations Hard Corp server which adds additional weapons, vehicles, sounds (if you have not heard the JSRS audio pack for Arma2 you need to it is a complete game changer), buildings (corner store in Kameka), forward operating bases with barracks all on the Chernarus map. Completely changes the game up.

Anyways all that to say they are bringing Hard Corps to Taviana shortly. Should be incredible.

That sounds interesting, Redhwk. As does Wasteland. I'm keeping an eye on you all until I get some free time.

OK, it's killing me... hardcore? or a military outfit called Hard Corps?
/pedant

Alright, getting things updated right now. I need some time in the woods.

I love all the DayZ maps and modding but at what point does it just become ArmA pvp? It seems like most things that are coming out from the community on DayZ are more concerned about guns and vehicles and pvp. Why not just play Arma?

On a side note I am extremely interested in this.

The DayZ I fell in love with back in the spring was scary as hell because you couldn't find weapons or food and when you did find a decent weapon it was a big deal.

That's still what I love about DayZ and why I still try to stick to it more than the other ones. That's one of the reasons I love Namalsk; it's fairly easy to gear up, but good luck finding food/water/blood!

Also, glad to see you're a Tennessee fan and not a Vandy fan, Gumbie

Yes, that's more like the game I want to play. If that's out before the standalone DayZ I will definitely be checking it out.

I think it just came out yesterday.

My entire DayZ has been through either Six-Launcher or DayZCommander.. Guess I'll need to dig into a bit more manual modding! (not that there's all that much to it)

Edit - Actually, it doesn't look to hard to run through DayZCommander

Rocket is always on Reddit and he had this to say about whats been going on.

From Reddit:
In light of the recent events surrounding WarZ, I think it's more important now that Rocket and his team take their time with the Standalone. Don't rush it. We can wait.

I know I have been very quiet lately. So this will be really all I'll say for the moment.
I've been pretty depressed about the whole situation. From a personal standpoint, this whole "saga" of the development made me seriously question if I wanted to be involved in the industry and I gave serious thought to cutting my losses and not being involved in the project.
At my Army Discharge medical this week, they noted I now have high blood pressure. Some things in life just aren't worth worrying about.
I've been getting hammered by a massive amount with requests for information about DayZ release, interviews and my reactions to this and stuff and such - but for my own sanity I retreated and have kept to myself. Right now I'm just at home doing bits and pieces on the DayZ development. The rest of the DayZ team is doing the same.
I realize that I went back on my word about releasing an update, but went back into my shell for a bit last week, and I'll come out when the dust is all settled.

I loaded this up the other day and put in a couple hours.
Loot spawns I typically gravitate to for initial gear like barns or deer stands are either flat-out empty or full of empty cans. I was able to find an axe eventually and got that rush of excitement that I hadn't felt in a while. I also ran into three other players. I snuck up on one who was in a barn I was hoping to loot but neither of us had a weapon so it was just a nod of acknowledgement, so to speak, and we each went our separate ways. The other encounter was a brief Mexican standoff with two other players as we all had axes. So we just kept our distance from each other (wondering if they know the effective range of the axe is fairly large) and again went our separate ways. No headshots. No ass-hattery. Yay!
I haven't made my way up to the NW airfield but some folks were sifting through Cherno and coming up empty, so I'm not expecting barracks full of assault rifles there either. First I have to find some food though. Priorities - as I'm trying to stay alive, not just find a fight.

There was, of course, the guy whining on side chat that he couldn't find a car or decent gun. Clearly not understanding the point and oblivious to everyone else trying to explain it to him.
Oh well, there's always one

So, this is definitely back to the pure DayZ from 6 months ago.
Actually, I think it's harder - and that's not a bad thing.
I'm still enjoying the PvP aspects of Namalsk and Wasteland, but when I want that old DayZ rush this is where I'll be going.

So I had a chance to try DayZ 2017 as well and had a real fun time with it. I am played on the official testing server from Shinkicker one of the developers I think. Anyways I played with a friend yesterday and he was lucky enough to find a tank near his spawn point! We filled it up with gas and headed to the NW airfield at night. Fun scary experience. Someone actually tried to shoot at me with a lee enfield! Didn't find any guns at all unfortunately expect for a revolver. I think the mods still needs some fine tuning but is pretty fun overall. I think playing at night should be required for this mod. It adds a lot to the tension. Looking forward to getting on with some of you guys on soon!

Just tried to get into 2017. Kept getting errors about the server not accepting my certificates for each game I owned, or when I joined the server it booted me to the ArmA 2 menu without indicating why.

Usually means a wrong ARMA 2 beta patch version. Also, make sure you don't have the original DayZ mod active.
