Interesting Kickstarter Catch-All

I also suspect that with JSJ, the audience which owns a Move controller is not the same audience that is checking Kickstarter for projects or is interested in indie games.

I was under the impression that the only people who still know where their Move controllers are, are the ones who have alpha versions of JSJ.

I'm currently at 2 of 7 (well, 1 1/2 of 7; I've gotten a pdf of an RPG but not the physical copy yet) but am not worried about the others as they all seem to be on track and the parties involved haven't been bad about keeping the backers up to date on what they are doing. But I haven't backed any prototype hardware yet either.

Here's what I've backed:

Double-Fine Adventure - I'm super entertained by the documentary episodes. I feel like I got my money's worth so far, but don't tell them that.
Idle Thumbs - I've gotten everything minus a vinyl of the Thumbs' songs.
Pure Steam - They entered alpha playtests, but haven't heard that much since.
Bluff Co Pants - Pants in hand, survived red wine spilled right on the crotch the first time I wore them. Two thumbs up.
Flint & Tinder Men's Underwear - My favorite boxers to date. Very happy about funding this one.
Tropes vs Women In Gaming - Cannot wait to see what comes of it.

i'm 13 for 28, but i anticipate to see them all fulfill. The only one with significant hurdles is Haunts, but the community has stepped up and i think that will turn out alright in the end.

Backed only one project so far - the new "season" of 99% invisible. No updates for the kickstarter about the rewards being posted (a set of moleskine-style notebooks), which given how mich international shipping costs for these type of things, is annoying. There are atleast new episodes of the show now though, which is nice.

Backed:

Dead Burger by Abomination Films - Embroidered shirt, t-shirt, DVD, poster, postcard
Carmageddon: Reincarnation - 2 codes + beta access
Grim Dawn - 2 beta keys, 2 of the retail game, 2 copies of the first expansion
Equiso Smart TV - Pro version

I've backed fourteen or so and have gotten my "returns" from two (D-Day Dice and FTL). The rest are still in development but I don't have an issue with that.

I've backed too many.

Happy with
Idle thumbs: Eh why not. The podcasts have been cast and listening to Remo again makes me happy.
Wasteland: Obsidian related so extremely happy
Project Eternity: Ditto
Steam Bandits: Ex Obsidian guys.

Those are the major ones. I've backed the more well known so I hope they deliver.

*looks at Kickstarter profile*

I think I've backed too many projects >_<

In the interest of brevity (and not embarassing myself too much) here's the hits n' misses for me:

Yay:
Cthulhu Saves the World PC
MC Frontalot Video Extravaganza (Haven't received DVD reward yet, but he did make some videos so that's a Yay in my book)
Kingdom of Loathing Comic Book
Elevation Dock (only issue was a dead USB cable in the box which they quickly replaced free of charge)
Idle Thumbs
FTL
Poul Ruders Vol. 8 (Hi Tanglebones!)
Pinball Arcade: Twilight Zone (still haven't redeemed my reward yet)
Tom vs. Bruce
Alien Frontiers (ipad version is lovely, should have physical reward soonish)
Ukiyo-e Heroes (print came in the mail last week, looks lovely but forgot we don't have much space for posters. Oops.)

Eh:
Venus Patrol (mostly did this for the games, which I admittedly haven't played yet. Also, was not expecting this to be a subscription based site)

Nay:
Orion: Prelude (wasn't aware of the torrid history of the project, gave them $10 and got a really buggy horde mode game in return. They can't all be winners, kid.)

So that's like 11.5 - 1. Not bad so far.

Hmm... Here's mine, and it seems I have a really serious Kickstarter impulse control problem. Yikes, that is a lot of backing, but at least my track record looks good.

Escape from Pandemonium: The Board Game. Control the Chaos!
The Future of Table Top Role Playing Games

Pending:
SPORTSFRIENDS - Looking bad

Do we get an achievement for this?

Backed: 39 (I realised I was spending too much money on these, but had not checked this number in a while)

Delivered: 20

A handful have been a bit disappointing, but none so much that I regretted funding them.

The non-delivered ones are all either not yet expected or just the usual delays: nothing that seems like the creator is not going to get there some time.

Did you get a giclee or woodblock? How do you like them?

We have a few woodblock prints from when my wife was in Japan, and just couldn't justify the cost with this project because we wanted so many, and as woodblocks :/

McIrishJihad wrote:

Single giclee print. Opened up the tube peeked inside and then closed it back up. Looked pretty nice, but I'm leaving it in the tube until I figure out a good place to put it. Unfortunately, we're pretty sure the owners of the place we're renting don't want us putting holes in the walls (that weren't already there) and we really don't have much wall space for hanging stuff up.

3M Command Tabs to the rescue!

Also, I hear toothpaste does a good job covering holes in rental units...

Backed 23: 3 failed, 5 bribes received, 1 ran short of [my] money and settle with donating a single dollar, 4 video games in development, 5 decks of cards in printing process, (1) copy of Animusic on bluray (2014), and 4 with days left to go (though 3 of them are currently successful).

I was surprised to see that the Double Fine project called for a completed game in October, I don't recall seeing one, did I miss something or was it just pushed back? This one project aside, I've had 100% turnaround. Heck, one guy even gave me the end product even though I was the only person to back :). Still many rewards to come through the pipelines though.

Polygon did a feature on Johan Sebastian Joust that contains a video that better describes the game than the kickstarter does: http://www.polygon.com/2012/12/6/372...

Hmm...hadn't noticed that with DFA.

Might be they were talking about "starting to have access to forums, the documentary, etc" and not necessarily the beta and the game.

Bill Abner is Kickstarting Tomorrow.

Nice plug for PenguinCon in the project commentary too.

I've seen some projects do that with the reward tiers. I think DFA's original estimate of October was based on their original $400k budget, not the one that was nearly a magnitude more.

Is that the same Bill Abner of Gameshark/No High Scores fame?

Indeed it is. Well, at least No High Scores, I confess to not being familiar with Gameshark.

And he's a really nice guy. I sat and chatted with him for a bit over dinner at PenCon.

Yeah he works for a board game company now. I believe Gameshark is gone.

I know a few people had a chance to play Tomorrow, but I wasn't one of them.

That's the impression I got from his writing. Cool!

Looks to be that way. Gameshark.com just gives me a login popup.

Nor was I unfortunately. I actually didn't get to play too many games, was working the whole time But I did watch him demoing it for a bit, looked interesting.

I got in on a game of The New Science, and lost to.. maybe Dyni? I forget who all was playing across from me.

I've pledged at the Ultimate Conquistador Bundle level on behalf of Ravenwood. We'll be adding at least those three of his games to our library, so I'll eventually get a chance to play them.

I believe it was Stilgar who won that game. It was pretty fun, and scratched that science nerd itch. Helps that we had a good group going and Bill is a nice guy and a good game tutor. I will have to check out the KS for Tomorrow.
*edit* OK, that looks really cool, that 99 dollar tier is super tempting...

I liked the $120 tier too. Nearly pledged at that level, but decided the extra $30 and two other games were worth more than naming an in game disease "Ravenitis"

I don't mean get hopes up, but Sportsfriends is going to be very close, if not make it. In the last day, they've got almost 24k and still have 44 hours to go. Considering the final push usually increases, which it has been steadily, they just might make it.

http://www.kicktraq.com/projects/gut...

Hope they make it because A) it sounds super interesting and B) it's one of the gifts for my secret Santa (or, since I'm giving the gift would I call him my Secret Child?).

I hope so too, but it looks like it's going to bad too close to call. The overnight total was barely over 1k, and this morning it's only risen a few thousand more. Is Saturday better for Kickstarter, or did it peak a day soon? They've just over a day left, so if Sunday continues to be this slow, hopefully Monday will give it life.
