NFL 2012 Week 13 Thread

Aikman also played before some significant stat inflation. In the Aikman era, 3100 yards got you in the top 10 in passing yards. Last year, it would've taken about 4100 yards.

That said... yeah, Aikman is one of those guys who wouldn't be in the Hall of Fame if he wasn't on the winning side of the Super Bowls.

Aikman is probably not as good as believed in Big D, and Romo is nowhere near as bad as they think.

I'm old, but not old enough to remember Sayers. I barely remember Juice.

No one was going to stop Dickerson in '84. I can't really disagree with you on Sweetness, though Sanders gets a little more credit because the Lions were always a .500 team and the Bears were actually pretty good there for a while.

Spoiler:

And, yes, you are going to hell, but it's because you're a Bucs fan. Your hell is painted in orange creamsicle. My hell is an endless loop of Brandon LaFell dropping that damned TD pass yesterday.

@ jowner: Go watch some of those videos in my link, and try not to let the oversized chryons melt your young brain. Hard to believe that the Raiders were actually relevant. But, hey, there's documentary footage.

There are always "What Ifs" for GOAT. Sure, maybe Bo does that, but Gale Sayers was phenomenal in his short career before that injury ended things. Eric Dickerson on a better team could have been unstoppable. OJ Simpson in a modern offense would have just carved through people (yes, I'm going to Hell).

Sayers would have had a bigger impact on NFL history if not for his injury.

Dickerson would have gone even further up the sidelines before slipping out of bounds to avoid hits on a good team.

OJ would have loved defenses that couldn't stack the run on him the way they could in his time.

Walter Payton is the GOAT.

But none of these players could touch what Bo Jackson could do on a football field. No player in NFL history was that physically dominant over his peers. Watching old footage of Jim Brown comes the closest.

Bo Jackson had the body weight of Earl Campbell and the foot speed of Deion Sanders, and neither of those statements are exaggerations. Jackson's 40 time is thought to be the fastest ever at the NFL Combine, but it predated "official" timing so it is not kept in the record books (even if you add an extra tenth of a second to his hand-timed 4.12, it would still be the Combine's fastest, and a tenth-and-a-half faster than Deion's hand-timed 4.27).

This is a horrible challenge by Shanahan. I don't think he has the first down, and if he loses this challenge, he's left with 1 for the remainder of the game.

*EDIT*
Wow, I think that's a bad call, I think you can't overturn it either way, because you can't see when the ball crosses the sideline.

Doesn't matter, Redskins to punt.

I can only shake my head at that first "fumble"

Not just Luck but this entire QB draft class is covered in magical bullsh*t dust.

The thing with magical bullsh*t dust though is it doesn't trump regression to the mean.

Even I'll admit that Manning was extremely lucky it wasn't a pick-6 on that out. What is Gruden smoking? This is the man Eagles fans want coaching their team?

Eli Manning is having a good game so far, and yet have only scored 3 points thus far. Hoping this drive yields more than a FG.

Hey, now, as a head coach, Gruden's one hell of an offensive coordinator.

Hey, now, as a head coach, Gruden's one hell of an offensive coordinator.

He likes those "magical plays", like when you fumble the ball and it happens to land in the hands of your teammate sprinting toward the endzone.

That is a HELL of a pass to Bennett to get into FG range. Both QBs are playing very well tonight.

Oh ffs, Suggs has a torn bicep. Time to break up the Ravens.

Wow that was a nasty fake.

Surprised both players weren't kicked out after that.

Eh? Not sure who you talk to...everyone around here wants Spags

Double

14 year old girl was holding up a sign that she's been waiting 80 years for RG3..............................

Giants blow out the Packers, sh*t the bed against the skins. I just don't get this team.

Well. The Giants just can't put that division away can they?

Really? The guy has done nothing but fail since leaving the Giants. By all means, please.

And a LOT of Eagles fans in my area and on the radio are clamoring for Gruden.

NFL Parity league...

Why I'm optimistic that even though the Packers have looked very plain at times this year they have a real shot at the 2nd seed and the Super Bowl.

0 teams are remotely dominant this year.

6 of 1, half dozen of the other. Great game very even and you can point to many keys that could have cost either time the game.

But, the thing that strikes me most is time of possession. The Giants kept it out of RG3's hands in the first half but Morris ran and ran and ran in the second half.

I know RG3 is getting all the kudos tonight but this was a huge game for Morris even with the costly fumble. I think he had 129 yds but he had many critical first down conversions and many big runs on first and 10.

And the D did just enough to confuse the Giant's offense. There were some key half time adjustments that allowed them to get to Manning. I mean the first half was a joke with the Skin's D giving him like a half hour to free up Cruz or Bennett.

So, I skimmed this week. Did anyone mention that the refs stole a TD from a Texans defender who recovered a fumble? Call it karmic make-up for the Thanksgiving Day TD that wasn't reversed because of the illegal challenge.

Still, refs, don't blow the GD whistle unless you're damn sure the play is over! In this case, our player's (think it was Antonio Smith) knee never came anywhere close to the ground. Literally the closest he came to ever being down was when he leaned over to scoop up the fumble.

Kinda sucks extra since defenders almost never score, especially non-DBs. JJ Watt being the exception with a pick six last postseason, but that's because he's JJ Watt. He does what he wants.

meh.. I think he has great talent evaluation.. He needs good coordinators and has the ego to allow them to do what they need to do...as well he would work well IMO with a talented GM (also something the Eagles lack lol)... Most intelligent Eagles fan look at the fairly dismal results from "super star" coaches who have been out of the game for a while coming back. I would have taken Gruden several years ago maybe.. but now he's got way to much ego to allow his coordinators to excel.

I told you folks that the Giants would have trouble with the Skins.

They just didn't have an answer for the zone blocking run game. Alfred Morris made NY stack the living snailsnot out of the box and still ended up getting crushed for over 100 yards. This opened up a play action passing game and outside run option game that pretty much nullified the Giants' famous pass rush.

I still say (and have been saying since the beginning of the season) that I will be happy if the Skins make it to 8-8 this season. Next year, however, we get Orakpo, Carrikker, and Merriweather back from injury and might actually have a decent defense to add to the current offense. At that point, the big piece missing would be a #1 receiver. And I'm thinking Dwayne Bowe from KC is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this year....

my feeling as well.. he has to have a good ego though.. you need a true #1 that won't complain when he doesnt get the ball as much as he could in a true passing oriented offense.

A lot of folks have been saying that the Skins are at least a couple pieces away from a legitimate playoff run, but I honestly think that a solid #1 receiver (and the healthy return of Carriker, Orakpo, and Merriweather) would be enough to virtually dominate the NFC East.

I say that now, but who the hell knows what will happen after teams have a year's worth of tape to analyze. I think that RGIII has fundamentally changed the game this year (and perhaps next), but only time will tell if his style of play is a fad like the Wildcat or something revolutionary.

edit: in any event, I am looking forward to playing him on Madden.

I will be dissapointed but not surprised if neither is suspended for one game once the NFL reviews the game. Both appeared to kick intentionally at eachother.

The Giants D had no idea what do do las night. There were multiple occasions where they dropped in to block the run only to realize it was a play-action and they would all scream"pass!" but it was too late. RGIII really tired them out and fakes the cameraman a couple time as well.

They kept him off the field for a good amount of time but the drive killing penalties is really what destroyed the Giants. It should be said again, the only team better than the Giants are the Giants. They always find a way to shoot themselves in the foot.

Was a funny game for penalties. You assume they usually break evenly in the sense that they keep drives going vs turning a 1st and 10 on the opponents 30 into 2nd 20 on the 40.

It seemed like every single penalty last night was not in the offenses favor. Either holdings on drives just as they were getting going or on punts pinning teams even further back etc.

I remember 0 pass interference's of significance and especially of the nature where the refs pretty much hand a team 50 yards on some minor hand checking.

There was one in the first half that was fairly lame.. lead to a Giants TD... wasnt 50 yards though but was on a 2 and 16.
