Once Upon a Time - Catch-All (May contain spoilers after show is aired)

The only thing better than their great little twists on traditional tales to suite the story's needs, is in how well every beat seems to tie together, and expand to new possibilities. It's like the writing team was given the rare gift of detailing out all the important story avenues, and then went over them further to make sure they were constant, interesting, and progressive to the whole tale. There are certainly stumbles, most notably Red's side-episode. It's one of the few current shows I really look forward to every week.

The return holds so many possibilities. I didn't expect them to take Regina down this road, and it seems like they maybe doing a slightly similar thing with Cora. Doesn't seem like the show will be quite as black and white, good v evil anymore. Which is usually a great thing for storytelling.

After catching up on this past weekends episode yesterday I find myself getting a bit anxious for the upcoming war. Cora and Mr. Gold seem to both know quite a bit about the upcoming battle yet both seem unsure of who the other is really fighting.

Spoiler:

Mr. Gold and Regina for the longest time seemed to think Emma but now it looks like Cora but even that isn't set in stone as Regina is having second thoughts on being good and might join Cora instead of trying to stop her.

Overall the show keeps dragging me back each week, which is a feat considering I've fallen behind on most of my other TV shows, but I make time to watch "Once Upon a Time".

A bit of trivia:

Once Upon a Time is filmed in Steveston Village, a quaint little corner of Richmond, British Columbia.

I keep sticking with this show and am currently watching the latest episode. It always has so much potential. At any rate, it's by no means a great show, but I enjoy seeing where they take it.

Yeah. Same. Sort of how I feel about that show Grimm too.

In any event, I am pretty sure the whole magic beans thing is likely to end badly once the evil trio get ahold of them.

I went on to hulu last night on my Roku Box. My wife and I might be kind of done with this show. I introduced her to Merlin on Netflix, and she is eating that up.

I think that more and more the show has become about introducing hidden characters like Mulan, or Hook. And it takes a good 12 episodes for anything plot driven to get resolved. Maybe I am just cranky.

There's been a drop in quality recently, especially the last episode, but at least the overall arcs are interesting. I'm not sure what to make of the Gold situation. Why was he punching that dispenser? He only learned afterward that he can't conjure magic outside of Storybrooke. Maybe he was just being emotional about finally seeking out his son, it didn't hit me.

Spent the weekend catching up on the first season. Now to jump head first into the second. I can find the second season on Hulu right?

Yeah, all season 2 episodes that have aired are still up. Hulu+ isn't required.

Once Upon a Time has become my only TV show I keep up with. NCIS and others have fallen to the " Eh let it build up" where Once Upon a Time I wait till right after it's uploaded to watch on Hulu. The only time OUAT might become second is when Doctor Who starts up.

My largest issue is, why did they take a plane? A train or car would have been just as fast. Thus the answer is a plot twist. They needed a reason for Gold to do that thus they went for the more expensive and slower way to get to NYC. Though it did have quite a few great LOST references in it.

I have no idea where Storybrook is supposed to be located. Somewhere in New England?

Maine.

Two miles East of Derry. They have their own author problems.

I just checked, and it told me that I need Hulu+ to watch the second season.

Rats. It's hard to tell when you have Hulu+ already.

I was actually thinking more along the lines of Sutter Cane.

King must be lactose intolerant. He sure has a problem with Derry.

Wow, the Manhattan episode was the best yet. They tie up a bunch of knots and revealed a huge amount of stuff. The kid's acting is pretty bad but forgivable.

They stepped it up a notch and a half.

Yup, from one of the worst, to one of the best. The only thing missing was a bit of action.

Spoiler:

They never hinted at it before, but I suppose all of Gold's correct decisions could be attributed to the Seer's power.

The new episode was just okay after the amazing previous episode. I was extremely impressed with the kid actress that plays Snow, however. Her acting perfectly reflects her older self in this episode. The scene where she gets the candle is the best part. For a kid to act like the older actress that well is pretty impressive, especially for a TV show.

The kid was the highlight, for sure. Hook was a surprise, but overall the episode was fair enough.

So, is Regina going to be able to buck her upbringing in the end?

Wowee, episode 16 was pretty great too! Not quite as surprisingly good after last week's episode, but it was still solid.

I particularly liked the whole hoisted by one's own petard business.

Recently discovered this show on Netflix.

Now hopelessly addicted.

It has postponed and delayed so many evil plans

It can drag at points, so don't give up on it. The stuff airing currently is really good even though the season started off a bit slow.

This last episode was lovely. It was exciting to see the birth of Storybrooke, and I dug the narrative direction they took. I guess we're on a whole new arc now. I don't have the foggiest of where they're taking the show; I kind of like that.

Edit: And there's this:

Interesting! That would be rad. I know exactly how you feel about not knowing where the show is going to go. The last few episodes have set all that up really well. They've answered a lot of questions in a very satisfying way unlike how Lost didn't, but they've also set up tons of directions they could take the show, like how Lost always did.

I really don't have a clue where they're going with it, and I'm very excited for the next few episodes.

I don't think the back half of season two worked well for me, but I am glad to see them shake things up next season.

This is a spin-off that will only last one season. Depending on ratings, they may change their minds.
