Gaming Confessions & Blasphemy

Part of me wants to whimper and cry that so many seem to dislike Resident Evil 4, but honestly, it would have been so easy for me to have given up on that game. But I beat that village and loved it.

Then again, the conditions of playing it is still one of my favorite memories. My roommate at the time got the game, played for a while, then had to go to class. He gave me permission to play while he was gone. I forget how it worked exactly, but by time he got back I had caught up to him and he was watching as I forged on ahead. Then he'd catch up to me and then he'd forge on ahead. Then back to me, then him. We each got to experience new content ourselves, but we also got to see what the other player was doing so we could prepare ahead of time.

It made for a really, really interesting and fun week.

I have to admit, I had to use the infinite ammo cheat in RE4 where you shoot a full clip into the lake, and while it took away most of the challenge, it was a lot more fun. Maybe I'll go back and play it again legit for a challenge.

Play it on the Wii if you do (or even have one still). That game not only has the best use of the Wiimote for a shooting game, but it's the best version of the game available. Plus, headshots are a lot easier to pull off.

That game was terrible.

Guess you never played State of Emergency. They should be ashamed of that game.

I'll say that I very much enjoyed the three or four hours I put into RDR, and have absolutely no desire to ever play more than that.

Bully was wonderful. There's a Rockstar franchise I'd like to see continue more than GTA.

Finally some blasphemy in this thread.

Count me in. As soon as I realized everyone I killed was going to respawn 15 seconds after I killed them, I quit playing.

I was disappointed that Bully didn't have any hot coffee.

When I shot into the lake, that's not what I got!

I think they did different things for different systems. GC got infinite ammo. I think one of the others unlocked the handcannon. Either way, odd place to put a cheat.

The only two Zelda games I really enjoyed are Zelda II: The Adventure of Link and Zelda III: A Link to the Past. I think the principal reason I liked (but never finished) the original were the novelty and hype factors at the time.

As a counterpoint to other posters - I was lukewarm on ICO (but finished it), yet loved Shadow of the Colossus (never beat the final boss). I think that one thing which SotC did which resonated with me, was make every encounter meaningful, instead of having the player mow down nigh-unlimited numbers of popcorn enemies.

Skies of Arcadia had a fun story and cast, but wasn't a good game. Grandia II was much better.

It took me about two weeks of reading a bit every evening to get to the end of this thread. Somebody must've doused it in Miracle Gro!

What do you gain by owning it, like what emotional trigger makes you spend $60 for it?

The thought that I'll enjoy it but, once I own a game, the interest wanes. I figure I will play it someday but I have to wait for the mood to hit me. Sometimes it takes a while.

$60 almost never happens, but you just described me, especially during the height of my collecting from 2000 to 2008ish.

Skies of Arcadia is totally awesome, however it's gameplay is bog standard JRPG. I flew my ship around this one patch of sky that spawned loopers for a couple hours once and grinded out a dozen levels. Not uncommon in a JRPG, except that I had switched back over to TV and was watching the Simpsons the entire time I did it. So, yeah, not the deepest RPG combat.

I can't find anything about that.

I am talking about shooting from the dock, which gives an entirely different result. Pretty sure it was both on the GC and Wii version I did it.

Not sure if trolling.

This was my experience.

Spoiler:

ABT

I don't really care for 2D side-scrolling Mario games. I love the Mario Galaxy games, but Super Mario Bros, New Super Mario Bros, whatever, i'm just Meh on.

Quick, delete the evidence!

One of the best easter-eggs of all time.

Nothing to see here.

I disagree, but can see your point, especially with the often overblown hype around the big game titles. There will certainly be endeavors that fail. But I've already supported several (non-video game) kickstarters that have put out excellent products. It's simply a platform for people to grow and get backing for their usually smaller-scale ideas. If people who back projects don't have the critical skills to actually look at what they're backing and figure out that any kickstarter project is a risk no matter what; that it's not a virtual store; then that's their fault.

Snakeoil you are buying a promise. A PROMISE?! MY MOTHER DIDN'T RAISE ME THAT WAY!

Here, in this day and age, you buy a PRODUCT OR SERVICE that EXISTS! aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh *runs away*

This one will blow your f*kking minds mate. (sorry, I just read all of The Boys in one go)

Metal Gear for the NES was THE BESTEST Metal Gear game

First confession: I skipped all the pages in this thread
Second: Never played the original XCOM or the latest release
Third: Always believed and still do that console games are lesser games than pc games
Fourth: Never played Wing Commander
Fifth: Mario games are stupid, really, they are.
Sixth: hattes in TF2 are the best, deal with it.....

As I'm sitting here the week after a Steam sale trying to decide what to play, I've come to a sad, sad truth:

By the time I get around to playing the games I bought at full price, they'll be discounted to 75 percent off.

Sparhawk wrote:

I'm just gonna be semantic here and argue that they're technically not stupid, or at least the first one. The first game pulled off a lot of really good and clever design mechanics that are actually all the more impressive today considering the number of studios that failed to imitate them.

But I wouldn't expect a member of the PC Master Gaming Race to notice such details in a game that doesn't require pages upon pages of text, convoluted inventory systems or the first person perspective.

(Note: to anyone that is not aware, means "in jest". I am not trying to be clever and start an argument)

On that note:

And I did. A lot. This serves two purposes: it's something positive to say and probably still comes across as blasphemous.

Oh gosh, that is so true!! I bought The Witcher 2 on launch (the premium edition with the little coin), and I've yet to play it... So sad...

I just can't get into the mindset of hoarding, if I'm going to buy something I'll almost always play it now. I was about to say it only applied to stuff I buy at launch, but it applies to discounted stuff too, it's not as though they're going to stop selling it (99.999% of the time).
