p.s. i just watched that video for the first time... is the resemblance to Charles Barkley intentional or coicidental?

By popular demand this past Saturday, we'll be doing our next on Saturday December 1st. Same bat location. Maybe I can drag more of you out to eat after, too

I'm game. Had previous dinner plans else I woulda.

I am out for the same reasons before-tests, honeymoon, work, blah, blah. See you guys in the new year. But I might be having a new year party, I will post some details in here. Not too many games, but I do always serve good food.

Yeah, I'll be good for food after this time as well--had to head home early on Saturday

As always, it was a good time playing with ya'll, even if I did come in last place in Blood Bowl. Stupid X's on the stupid die.

...stupid.

skulls for the skull throne!

"Don't you want to use that building over there? It will give you a purple cube in addition to the two black cubes...and give me a cube as well"
"Nah, I think I'm good here"

hooray for new games. started a new job a couple of weeks ago and to celebrate the newfound financial freedom I picked up 2 new games, Mage Wars and Mage Knight. Pretty stoked about them both, but not sure about length or suitability for one of our sessions. Anyone played either?

I was just watching the Shut up and Sit Down where they cover Mage Knight today. I...don't think I'm up to that. Seems like an all day learning/playing game. A bit too crunchy for me.

yeah, that one i figured as much, but mage wars... bought it sight unseen based on buzz with no idea how long it plays. I'll check into it.

yeah, banged out the first game of the intro scenario tonight and it took... a lot of hours. Granted, I am borderline excessively diligent about rulechecking to ensure as little as possible is done wrong on the first run of games this heavy, but I can see this one going at least 3 hours... and that's 2-player. Still, I like it... it's definitely got the Vlaada "WHY CAN'T I DO EVERYTHING I WANT TO" charm.

Getting hyped?

I am at full hype capacity. I'll be bringing a friend who is bringing with him Mission: Red Planet and maybe Alien Frontiers. MOAR BOARD GAME PLAYERS!

If he'll teach I'll play! Citadels is the only Fadutti game I've played (and obviously I love it).

Thanks to Jow, Domano, and Domano's hetero life partner for coming out on Saturday. A great time, and tater tots and/or cheese sticks were had by all (how'd the leftover burger go Jow?)

We played:

Forbidden Island - I had played before, but was a short and fun game for Matt, Matt and I to play while we waited for Joe. It turned out to be a bit trickier than we thought...we barely escaped with the treasure before the whole island sunk!

King of Tokyo - We played the base game once and the expansion once. I really enjoyed this game for some light fare. The first game was pretty much a run away due to some lucky early rolls but the second was really hotly contested. Some of the abilities you can buy are really fun and surprising, if not entirely balanced.

Colossal Arena - A really interesting bidding game. I ended up winning by killing off one of my champions (losing my bet in the process) in order to end the game early and make sure my secret bet character remained alive. Joe and I were really close in this game, having murdered off the champions that Matt and Matt backed heavily with some fiendish card placement.

Ra - I think I am in love with Ra. Since we played on Saturday I've picked it up for iOS and played a bunch of times. The auction/bidding mechanic combined with the tile collection has me hooked. Can't remember who won, but it was definitely not me!

We'll have to get together again in January.

Yeah, I had another great time--all the games we played were pretty fun!

I always seem to have issues with auction/bidding games as I can never quite figure out a good strategy. Of course, this became evident when I took myself out of the second age completely after "winning" an auction that where I think I actually LOST pieces that cost me points later on. I think I still somehow came out on top by the end of the game though.

Damn. Straight. Man I love cheese sticks.

Yeah, that's right, you did win. You claimed knocking yourself out of that round was part of your grand strategy, but I have my doubts.

Bah, I never know what I'm doing in any game most of the time. If I win it is by sheer luck.

leftovers are like pizza - they're rarely bad. Burger was history later that night.

King of Tokyo was fun. Couldn't believe I needed one more 2 to win and couldn't get one in two rolls. Bah.

Colossal Arena is one of my faves. Game went pretty well for me, but I was kinda hampered by the fact that the critter I'd invested the most in (Colossus) wasn't really useful to me so I never got to use his ability. Your last move to hurt us both but me more due to the fact that I lost more tokens was brilliant.

Do they have every bloody boardgame in existence for iOS now?

There really aren't that many available, but there are a LOT of Reiner Kinizia ones.

You ever play Blue Moon? once upon a time that was my favorite Knizia game ever, but 2 player...

I have not.

Also, looked up some info on Pitchcar. I really want to play that! Hoxie, you don't have that one, do you?

So we are looking at having a new year's party. General invitations all around, some music, some games, a few movies. It will be casual, and cocktails later evening until the ball drops. Send me a PM.

No one loves me it seems. Anyhow, any thoughts on a date for January 2013? We should celebrate the apocalypse with Arkham Horror, Pandemic, or Last Night on Earth.

have had new years plans in place for a while, hence why i wasn't able to jump onboard for shenanigans tonight, but i'd be up for something as soon as next weekend if there's enough interest. In the event people decide they want to play Arkham Horror I own the base game and a handful of the expansions.

Please no last night on earth

did anyone here mention being interested in netrunner? Don't remember...
