Torchlight 2 Catch-All

I caught my first giant fish last night! A giant webfish. I gave it to my embermage, so now her pet is a giant hairy tarantula.

Oh man, I forgot how... spidery Torchlight spiders move. Eww. Eww. Eww.

Ugh yeah. After using a temporary web fish the other day I was thinking I should just delete the rest. :p

Well giant fish are permanent!

Don't they go away if you replace them with a non-permanent fish? (i.e. giant webfish => permanent spider, webfish => temporary spider => original pet)

I admit I haven't tried it because I'm worried that it won't, and I like my pet.

In other news: I've been playing a lot of TL2, so anybody should feel free to drop me a line. I have a 57-ish engineer and a 29-ish outlander, and I'd be happy to start a new character for lower level smashing of stuff.

I actually like it too, even though it gives me the heebie jeebies.

So I probably read this before in the thread, but how big a deal is it to have a 3-4 level difference between my char and another person's char?

If you are above level 10 it probably won't be an issue at all.

I thought the same about the Berserker, until I played him. At low level, he behaves like a whirlwind of death. He's so fast and punchy.

Too bad that Elite Hardcore minions are hard as a bag of bricks :(

I bow to your superior wisdom. The warrior/fighter archetype usually has the least appeal for me but the berserker here is a really fun class. I'm a pretty big altaholic so I eventually made one of each type to check them out. After trying each one out I've enjoyed Outlander and Berserker the most, and I enjoy the Engineer too, with Embermage well behind the others.

Berseker is so much fun that I want to make two of them - 1 shadow/lightning type focusing on melee, and another frostzerker with wands/focus. But I'm going to try and get through my Outlander playthrough first.

Also, the fan-made respec mod has been a godsend for me. I love checking out how the different skills work and I never understand why the developers lock skill choices away.

Just picked this up during cyber Monday steam sale. Can someone add me to the steam group? Link in sig.

Also, any advice/encouragement for a perfectionist who has major anxiety over allotting skill points? First character is outlander.

Get the respec mod ASAP.

Quick video explaining how it works

I use it frequently to check out new skills as they become available. It doesn't let you redistribute stat points but I sometimes switch my entire skill layout for a few levels just to check out a different playstyle.

For the outlander, I did some digging myself and the Mad Genius gives a lot flexibility in playstyle/skill choices without sacrificing much at all. I've been really happy using it as the skeleton build for my outlander (in my late 30s now, also picked it up during last week's sale).

Thanks to the respec mod the only permanent decision you make is in stat points. For an outlander that generally means deciding between a Str/Dex build that uses pistols/bows/crossbows/shotguns versus Focus & wands.
Generally speaking, Str determines weapon damage for all weapons except Wands and Staves (which use Focus to determine damage). However, most of the ranged weapons (bow/xbow/pistol/shotgun) have a dexterity prerequisite to equip them, so you have to split your points between Str and Dex. The "genius" part of the mad genius build comes from equipping a wand in your main hand (and pumping the focus stat) but by putting a pistol in your off-hand (any pistol, even a very low level one) you get access to the gun/bow skills at full effectiveness (you use your Wand's DPS).

FWIW I've found that Glaive Throw (the starting skill) is one of the best attack skills in the class. I didn't like Shadow Shot (the shards that break off end up hitting walls or objects too often for my taste). Chaos Burst is pretty good though. For defense, 1 point in Rune Vault is an excellent investment, and Repulsion Hex and Stone Pact are both excellent.

That respec mod isn't cheating?

Sword and Board is the only way to go with berserker Elite Hardcore at the early levels. 1/2/2 (str, dex, vit respectively). Not trying to respec, I'm just having so much fun hitting evolutionary dead ends. You feel the pit of your stomach drop when you die, but then you want to come back. You want to say "I'm going to prove you wrong, gaem". I guess that's how Sam Beckett would play videogames? I don't know...

Plus, you have to grind tonnes. Already lost 4 zerk's. First two were because I was insisting on dual-wield. Bad call. Skills are the passive that heals you when you crit, the one you get at the start (so when you charge, you can aoe crit and get healed), and the one that allows you to charge and get healed (good escape skill).

Just got Howl, gonna see if it improves my survivability.

Potions are a must.

Also, elite hardcore is easier when you have someone who can dps a lot, like an embermage. Sometimes mobs take a ton of time to wear down, especially if they outlevel you.

Is it? I think that's your call to make. Runic has always been very supportive of modding and is still going to incorporate Steam Workshop into Torchlight II specifically for that purpose.

Eventually.

Right, guys?

...Right?

Depends on your definition of cheating. It doesn't give you any kind of game advantage so I would say no. It also doesn't break achievements so also no.

If your definition of cheating though is simply using tools that didn't come with the game regardless of advantage gained then the answer would be yes.

I believe he is asking if the mod will mark your character as a possible cheater when you look for multiplayer games.

I haven't tried multiplayer so I can't say for certain, but I don't think it flags you as a cheater according to the descriptions from the sites I linked to.

Well, that's what they said in September... I don't think Runic has out-right lied about anything yet, but they do have a habit of over-promising their release schedule a bit...

It'll come out. Eventually.

First mod I want to see is one that changes the graphics for derringers because come on. The triple-barrel guns are goofy. They aren't even derringers. They're like a sideways duckfoot (for OGs: Outlander Gangstas).

Please add me to the steam group as well. Got my outlander to level 15 or so, wouldn't mind trying some MP with a few other folks that picked it up in the sale.

Thanks.

Same for me, please? Although I doubt I'll manage to cross into your timezones successfully.

And Bigred.

Thank you!

Can you add me as well to the steam group? Thanks!!

oh, I'd like into the group too. It will give me a reason to play another alt.

Is there a way to check other people's levels without just asking them. You can level so quickly it's easy to fall behind.

In-game? It's the number on the corner of the player portrait.

My bad. I meant outside the game.

Which character? You can have tons.

EDIT: Just confirmed: in the game lobby, it will show your friend's Runic login, and the level of the last character he played with.

On Steam main page, where you see the game, I'm seeing on me phone " free new dlc available "... What is the new dlc?
