I installed my new dishwasher. My father-in-law did the electrical (mainly because I thought it would be more complicated than it was) and I did the rest. Water in, drain out, securing it to the countertop...all me.

I put in a ceiling fan last weekend and felt the same way.

We are totally manly men who can do things, and not just nerds.

I discovered the secret to doing things like this when you are not one who does it normally.

1 - Read the instructions through the first time.
2 - Read the instructions a second time, moving the object and manipulating it (and your tools) the way you would if you were doing it for real. (if possible)
3 - Do it slowly.
4 - Sacrifice a couple of drops of blood to Mike Holmes, the high-priest of doing it right.
5 - Do it slowly.

Measure thou twice, cutteth thou but once. Care in all things shalt save thee from waste and error.

If you get frustrated, take a break.

I have an urge to go see if there's any comic strips at oglaf that I haven't seen yet. (And I would give in, if my twelve year old weren't sitting right behind me.)

MY GIRLFRIEND PASSED THE UFE EXAM!!!

Six years of work and study, a major exam in January, a month in Toronto at the School of Accountancy followed by a two day exam and it all coming down to this epic, three day exam that she had to write, then two months of waiting for the results. This year in particular was hellish for her and given that more than 1/3 of everyone who writes the UFE fails it their first time, she was very nervous but she bloody did it! In 9 months from now when she has all her hours, she'll officially be a Chartered Accountant, the highest account designation you can get in Canada and one that will set her up for an amazing career. Hot damn I am so incredibly proud of her right now. :)

Too many posts following not congratulating this--awesome news PA!

The sparkle pony cover-up is in effect!

My oldest nephew just graduated from Marine Corp basic training. He has to go back for Infantry school in a couple of weeks but we get him till then.

This is linked to my recent Loathe about my ailing Grandma; they are only giving her a few days, so he at least got to come home to see her again.

This, for some reason, is the important one. Anytime I do a project of any significance where I'm not totally comfortable, if I don't bleed - even just from a skinned knuckle - things always go horribly.

My four old's unintentional hilarity.

'Counting play' this morning, we asked if she could count from 1-10 backwards. Looking at us like we'd just asked her to do the simplest of tasks, she rolls her eyes, lets out a big sigh, then begins counting.

1, 2, 3, 4, etc, while walking away from us, 'backwards'.

That is so awesome. I used to love how literal my daughter could be, to hilarious effect.

There's nothing you can do about that. You'll just have to learn to deal with it.

Well played Gravey. Well played indeed.

But no, not quite. A sticking hydraulic lifter was fixed with... an oil change.

This weekend, we finished Avatar: The Last Airbender, and the finale was amaaaaazing.

All 3 books?

I might suggest waiting a bit before diving into Kora, if you have not already done so.

Yes, we watched all of it (not all this weekend :p )

I want to watch Korra but it's not on Netflix yet so it might have to wait anyway...

I teach at a private, all-girls school in Toronto. When LM posted this image, I was struck by the eerie similarities between the uniforms that the girls in this picture are wearing and the architecture and colouring of the building, to the same elements of my workplace.

Five minutes on ComicVine has informed me that the artist grew up in Toronto. By the end of the day, I'll know whether he went to the all-boys private school down the street.

Dude, I teach at a place where the students are secretly in training to be ninja assassins!

I love when you think about buying a game on steam, you search for it and you find out you already own it.

I love that I am mid 20's and was asked to play the role of Santa at a children's Christmas party...
