Just got a Steam phishing message from Psych's account

Hey Psych's back! Wait... why was it that he left again? I think it was something about embarrassing incompetence but the details escape me...

It's all detailed here.

Yeah, you accepting my friend invite JUST IN TIME FOR HACKING!

Ok, lets just start the tagging now,

How about,

Has sent you a message...

Location: gone phishing.

This reeks of premature tagging, but oh well.

My suggestion would be;

Blame me! Or, I blame myself!

Yeah, but it is a bit of an ego trip after how depressing this thread was the first two days.

How awesome would it be if Psych hit 1,000 on a pre-mature thread tagging thread and then we turned it into a mature XXX tagging thread... How awesome?

I am working really hard on that.

I got an attempt in Steam chat from some I didn't recognize, so I just shut the window. Thing is, I don't think it was from Psych. It was a longer name, one I did not recognize.

I don't think I have you on my steam friends, Robear, so for once I feel I am in the clear.

Perhaps we can re-title this thread "Psych's constant reminder of shame."

Just wait until your tagging thread comes up. :)

I have a pretty good idea of what I will be suggesting.

Oh, and Psych, fix your location!

I believe I will be holding off on posting until all this blows over. Farewell.

Sure, THAT'S going to work. I have a long memory, my friend.........

You just called me a friend. You obviously don't even remember who I am.

Hey, I just wanted to warn everyone, someone hacked into my GWJ forum account, and started posting lots of lies and crap that I don't normally say. *see above* I just wanted to let everyone know, because the LAST thing I need is to have Psych think that I think of him as a friend. I'm too honest of a person to let a lie like that stand. Thank you all.

Psych's tag: Phisherman Extraordinaire

I'll put my money on: Disregard That

I'm not sure how I feel about that...

How would people feel about an option for a "Steam Authenticator", much the same way Blizzard does it (Either Mobile Phone App or USB Key)? Given just how much can go wrong when your steam account gets hacked, it would be nice to add a layer of security if we wanted. After getting my WoW account hacked once, I'm really enjoying having an authenticator for SC2.

I just meant about the being impersonated part. Not implying anything else, but it's probably a bit much.

How about Donut's Fedora?

I wouldn't want it, but I'm not going to say it wouldn't be helpful or desired by others. I think the recommended option of authenticating your email and using that to reset your password works for most people. Steam also requires email access to change the "Secret question," so you should also be able to use that to restore access. It means you have to have different passwords for the two accounts, but people should probably do that anyway.

Unlike WOW, most of your Steam linked stuff will not be ruined between the time of getting hacked and getting your stuff back. In WOW, they can sell all your sweet loot, etc. In Steam, the most they could do is go and delete all your Steam cloud stuff like items in TF2 or Torchlight. I doubt anyone is really doing that. My understanding is that they go after your credit card account or email address if those passwords are similar. For example, they can buy "gifts" on Steam with your account and sell those codes or add them to their own account.

I just got this scam from a non-goodjer contact - heads-up that it is making the rounds again.

Russians added money into my steam wallet. So this could be a thing now. Waiting on Valve to get back to me about it.

In Mother Russia, spammers give money to you?

Steam support told me to contact Xsolla support, which said money at a kiosk can be added to a steam wallet by entering just the steam account name. So yay?

Either a gift from a secret admirer or an unhappy person who made an unfortunate typo.

Maybe they were trying to send money to EviIseed.

Great outcome and as a happy bonus, we all get to reminisce about that time Psych's Steam account was hacked.

Oh look, this thread is back. Hurray.
