My problem with D3 is that I got bored with it 20 levels in and didn't play it any more.

My wife has now expressed a desire to take a vacation to Vancouver mainly because half the shows and movies she watches seem to be filmed there and she's decided it looks beautiful. So, any input on what time of year would be the best time to visit, where to stay, things to see/do, etc.? I know absolutely nothing about the place aside from "it's in Canada."

It's a little left of Toronto, so I'm sure you will find something to do in Toronto.

July-August would be the safest bet, in between the late-spring rain and the early-fall rain. There's usually a week in August when it's nice. ;)

March-April could also be a good time to visit if you like flowers, especially cherry blossoms. Just be warned that it's probably going to rain a lot.

What is wrong with Diablo 3?

Most peoples Female Doggoing usually boils down to it not meeting their ridiculous expectations. They also like to complain about the entirely optional auction house. There was a problem with the difficulty ramp up in the second act of the fourth difficulty but most people I see complaining about it didn't even come close to getting that far and it's since been fixed.

I saw a lot of reasons listed in Confessions thread and the Worst Buy of the Year thread.

Is there a wrpg thread?

Kinda. This seems to be mostly WRPG talk.

I would wait until july-august and avoid the rain. Depending on what TV shows she likes, people have compiled lists of where all the shows were filmed. Supernatural, Stargate, etc.

EDIT* also the fall can be a pretty nice time to visit.

She's back! Please don't leave again, it was lonely and un-clocking.

Can a union barganing for a specific contract... say commuity sub-sector give a raise to only some of the members and ignore everyone else?

Here is what happened last time. •Wage increases of 3% and 3% for some Licenced Practical Nurses, LPN supervisors and Certified Dental Assistants (everyone else gets nothing!!!)

They gave a raise to those members who make up 60% of the collective contract and the rest of us were powerless to stop the agreement vote.

It seems underhanded and I wonder how they can get away with such shenanigans... what happened to solidarity.

I love playing "spot the landmark" when I watch tv. Off the top of my head:
Queen Elizabeth Park: "The Garden" in Supernatural, various garden/conservatory scenes in Stargate.
Vancouver Art Gallery: The courthouse in Caprica, backdrop in a lot of shows.
Vancouver Public Library: Alternate universe Fringe HQ, backdrop in a lot of shows. Also shows up at the very end of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
Granville St: Fringe season 3 finale, lots of street scenes in other shows.
The Orpheum Theatre: Fringe season 2 finale.
Stanley Park: Every scene in every show where somebody visits a park or jogs along a forest path. Also every scene involving a small stone bridge.

Don't forget that Cloverdale, BC is the home of Superman.
Primevil New World - Every episode has a landmark
Hope, BC - Rambo first Blood.

While watching American Psycho my wife spotted one of our favourite clubs to party at (in Toronto, ON). Pretty good spot, IMO, because it's not very memorable, but we did check to make sure they did film in that area of Toronto.

But then... It's Canadian Psycho?

Well, I think it is still Welsh Psycho.

Do they shoot any movies in the US? Besides westerns?

Many Westerns are shot in Alberta actually.

Canada has a lot more wide open spaces. If you need a setting for your little world, you need to get away from a lot of what might distract. Charlton Heston's The Omega Man has tons of moments with helicopters, planes, buses, traffic seen because it was shot in LA and you cannot shut down LA or Parts of LA for filming.

Outdoor location shooting is also much cheaper in Canada than in California. It is far easier to find a little suburb in BC to film Supernatural, than to ship folks out on locations. A lot of movies are shot in Utah for the same reason. But Nolan shot the Batman Trilogy in a variety of places, but Gotham Ultimately was an amalgam of locations like Chicago, Philidelphia. Wayne Manor was actually in Buckingham and Nottingham though.

Vancouver and Toronto also make it very enticing to do the urban shooting in their cities with friendlier laws than many US cities. The Radioactive Man Episode of the Simpsons is a decent reflection of what Hollywood and Small town America coming together looks like.

Toph513 is in the Avengers, the scene in which Loki is making the crowd bow down. I was working in Cleveland when it was shot and parts of the city were completely inaccessible.

If anyone watches Psych, that's a classic example of "taking place" in California, but being filmed in Canada. The show actually is filmed a lot in Vancouver, specifically White Rock, Surrey. My family lived in that area for a couple years so it's funny to see the boardwalk and beach we know always appearing in the show.

Wait, they don't ACTUALLY film in Santa Barbara? Those f*ckS...

Next thing you are going to tell me that they don't actually film The Simpsons in Springfield.

Springfield, Canada.

Well, I think a few scenes have been filmed in California... in their 6 or 7 seasons....

Is that better?

Recommend me a coffee table!

  • Not looking to spend a fortune, but not looking to go super cheap either (we'll be replacing the crappy one we got for free when we first moved here - this will likely be the coffee table our as-yet-unborn kids take their first steps around)
  • Not averse to IKEA, but this is for exploring other options.
  • Wants to be light enough to be moved regularly (we reconfigure our lounge furniture regularly for Rock Band or parties or whatever)
  • Space is not an issue, and it does have to be a table.

Mainly I'm just wondering because I've not bought furniture in this country that wasn't from IKEA, and I have no idea of where else to go.

On second thought, I just noticed that this came up when I did that image search:

If you're looking for good quality, stay the hell away from Raymour and Flanagan. Ethan Allen does great stuff, but they're not cheap. I'm not sure if those are national stores, or regional, though.

You might get some traction from one of these.

Similar ones can be had at target, Wal-mart, etc. But it can double as a table, or some extra seating. It is a damn good place for the drummer to sit at.

I would also suggest looking at local Salvation Army, Good Wills, etc. They often have great used furniture.

We use a pair of these as end ant coffee tables.

So far they have been very good, especially for the price. They survived a move, and can support a decent amount of weight. I would not dance on one, but it takes a good number of legal books.

A Friend uses this as her TV table.

I think if you are moving it a lot, the casters will help.

we've had 2 of those ikea tables for 3 or 4 years. They were a steal at $8 and they're both still kicking. I used them together as a coffee table for a while and now they're both in the living room keeping baby stuff off the ground.

Yeah, I will third the multiple Lacks, or the storage ottoman.

We have that one. We keep our boardgames in it.
