Steam Winter Sale 2012 - Seriously Guys, It Was Over Two Months Ago! Move Along!

My final tallly

Dead Island GOTY - $6.78 (Amazon, but activated on Steam. Apparently I have a $5 credit from it too)
Skyrim DLC - Dawnguard - $9.99
Skyrim DLC - Hearthfire - $2.49
DX:HR DLC - Tactical + Explosive Bundle - $0.99
Home (x4 - gifted) - $4.04

Total - $24.29

Trying to pace myself for the winter sale...

Final tally....

$0

Woooooot! Completely unscathed. Nada, zip, zilcho. Not a single thing.

I figure I just bought Assassin's Creed 3 and Need For Speed Most Wanted. Granted Most wanted was on sale at Amazon for $20 so not completely unscathed. But, I have these awesome games to play and anything I buy now will just go unplayed. And besides, Christmas sale is less than a month away and games will probably be even cheaper. Winning!

Tropico 4 basically fixes just about everything wrong with Tropico 3, adds a few new buildings, and has what feels to me like a much better campaign. T3's campaign often felt weird and arbitrary, but T4's felt almost realistic in some ways... when they did restrictions on particular islands, they generally weren't nonsensical. ("Sorry, you don't know how to make roads anymore.")

It's like a low-friction version of T3... all the fun stuff, very little crap. It's a good upgrade.

I've skated through this sale only picking up the Deus Ex DLC but I have to say at 3.74, The Legend of Grimrock tempts.

That's a very hard game, in many ways, although not insanely tough like Dungeon Master. It's a solid revisit to one of the better 16-bit games, and utterly worth $3.74.

I've been meaning to post this for a while, but a hearty (and belated) thank you to JohnKillo for Red Faction!

Steam sales bring out the commies in all of us. We buy and then we share. Capital communism - caponuism. CapitalZism. Commcap. CommieCap. BlapBlap.

Trickle down Steamonomics?

I've been picking up a few good deals during the sale for gifting. I gave a couple out already, but these weren't on anyone's list.

SPAZ
Flight Control HD
Misadventures of PB Winterbottom
Zeno Clash

If you are interested, PM me with which one you want. First non-grinder gets it.

Holy crap someone take SPAZ! It's so fun!

Many thanks to Falchion for the gift of Civilization V - it's been on my wishlist for a long time.

Sadly, his prediction that I won't have the time to actually play the game is all too true - putting this game on the pile stings a little more than the others..

I think I did okay.

oh and still have Metro 2033 to give.

Aaaaannnnd enabled. I used to love playing Dungeon Master on a friend's Atari ST.

You don't have to put it on the pile. Just give it a try. How about just one turn. Just one! Try it!

Try.
It.

Dang - just checked and see that The Witcher 2 is $7.49 @ 75% off. I just paid $12 for it a few days ago. Why? Because I'm a sap who didn't stick to his 75% off or better rule!

Thanks Garden Ninja for the Gift of Kotor2!

I'll enjoy that game! And Light sabers!

Ok... since my last post here, I've given out Civ V and NS2.

Still have:
Cthulhu Saves the World
Breath of Death VII
Defense Grid(for the 1 or 2 of you that don't have it)
Cogs(ditto)

PM if you want any of those. I just want a clean inventory...

Legend of Grimrock for $3.75!!!!

If you liked Dungeon Master this is a no brainer.

The Indie Games deals of the day are ( I didn't even realize that they had different daily deals in this section too )

Sigh. I put a link to the Indie Games page in the OP. This is why we can't have nice things...

I've been there at 1 AM, wondering how thinking "one more turn.. it's only 9 PM" suddenly resulted in 4 hours of my life disappearing. You can't trick me again! Also, I really badly want to be tricked into playing endless hours of a game (any game) again...

We are beset by thieves and assassins, cowards who move under cover of night.

Homes engulfed in smoke and flame, storehouses pillaged, caravans massacred in neighbouring regions.

They bear the crest of the Wolf, not the sigil of The Beast. Mere scouts, but the damage is staggering.

Sin Episodes
AoE 3: Complete
DotP 2013
Torchlight 2

By my estimation, we've lost over $27. It is more than my wallet can bear.

Our positions and structures are compromised. Patrols must be doubled, supply routes changed, towers rebuilt.

He comes.

Excellent.

Final Flash is up.

SSFIV Arcade $9.99
Red Faction Collection $14.99
Binding of Isaac $1.24

So When the Witcher 2 Steam advisory states, "System Requirements: Requires file system support for files up to 8 GB", that means RAM, does it not? And I've only got 4 GB. Saving money, that's what I'm doing...

Older versions of the Windows file system (like FAT32) couldn't support file sizes greater than 4Gb. I think they're just saying you can't install it on a drive with a really old file system on it. If you're running any kind of recent system you're probably on NTFS and so should be OK.

Yeah old file system. Does it list Vista/7 in requirements or WinXP?

Edit: Jeez, double-Tannhausered.

I just returned home from a long weekend visiting family to find a lovely gift of To The Moon waiting for me. Thank you Falchion! :)

Hope you enjoy it! Everyone should experience that game at least once.
Seriously.
Go buy it now.

This man speaks truth! What a beautiful and heart-wrenching/warming story. I'll put a writeup over in the Finished any Games thread just as soon as my eyes stop watering.

Kudos and a hearty thankyou to Cube, who ended my back-and-forthing and 'Civ'ilized me, to the 5th degree.

He got me, too! Thank you, m0nk3yboy, for Garshasp: The Monster Slayer! That's been sitting on my list a long time and it just kept getting shuffled off.

Picked up Batman: Arkham City, Deus Ex: HR and KOTOR2.

I've played the demo for Bastion 3 times and I still can't decide if I like the game enough to buy it.

Total damage for the sale:

Gifts:
Mark of the Ninja ($7.49) x3

Selfish:
The Binding of Isaac + Soundtrack + DLC ($2.23)

$24.70. Lucky for me I don't have more Steam friends, otherwise that MotN sale would've gotten pricey. And Binding of Isaac, I just happened to read the post mortem in Game Developer today, so that was a total impulse buy. I don't even know if I'll like it.

I've been a bigger fan of BoI developer Edmund McMillen since watching Indie Game the Movie. It's on sale right now on Steam, too (75% off)!

My damage:

Civ V (Played for 7 hours on the free weekend, so I figure I already got my money's worth)
AI War Bundle (Three Moves Ahead podcast sold me on that one)
Runespell: OVerture (Nice looking puzzle game - on my wishlist forever)
KOTOR (Played for 9-10 hours back on the day on an Xbox - one of these days I'll finish it)

All total it was less than $20. I'm saving Unity of Command for the next sale.
