Awesomenauts Catch-All of Awesomeness! Now on Steam!

The 1.6 patch went live last week, and I'm back to playing regularly. The major changes are a new ranking system, like the one in StarCraft 2, and a new Awesomenaut, Skølldir. He's a beast.

It's going to be a sleepless night for me on the release of both Dishonored and XCOM. If you want to goodj it up with me, I'll be playing this until their unlock, starting a little after 11 EST. Steam VOIP seems to work fine, so I'll be using that.

I'll do my best to meet you there. Will you be XCOMing after 11?

Not sure what I'll play first! And the unlock is midnight or after, in case that wasn't clear.

It was. I neglected to mention that I'm central time.

For those that didn't see it plastered on Steam, Awesomenauts is free for the weekend, and 50% off to own. I wish the DLC was discounted, but I suppose I'll have to wait a few weeks or a month for that. And please, if anyone's interested in playing, just drop me a line. I'll gladly switch from any game to Awesomenauts.

Tempting. Played the demo on PS3. Do we have more people playing on PC?

No one plays regularly except me, and I play a few times a week. There are very few MP games here that "stick." Hell, even Tribes Ascend didn't take, which I still can't believe. You should at least try it, all it requires is some time.

I still play, but semi-rarely. Mostly in practice mode, but I'll occasionally head online too. Just harder to find people playing this side of the planet.

Bought. Already had it on 360, this is the sale I was looking for before double-dipping.

I played for 2 hours last night on practice mode and had a blast, so I picked it up. I suck big time, but definitely enjoyed it as a first MOBA experience. I'm nervous about playing with real people and dragging down the team, so some more time in practice seems warranted.

Step one on public games is don't die, if you can help it. If you get low on HP, run back to the base to heal up. I played some on the PS3, and seeing teammates die needlessly even got me frustrated.

Yes, teleport is your friend. Mostly though, it's just going to be about learning the strengths and weaknesses of characters. I don't consider myself great, but I usually know when, and how much, to push based on all the factors the game presents; like: ability cooldowns, different upgrades, character pairings, etc. Don't be afraid to play in public matches this weekend. They're a lot of new players, and the game has a league system that tries to match similarly skilled players.

That all sounds like good advice, thank you! The not dying and figuring out how to push the characters was what I ended up focusing on last night, but I suck at it. Maybe we can get a goodjer game together sometime.

Yep, either shoot me an invite, or I'll do the same.

I'm down for a goodjer game sometime this weekend. Steam ID is in my sig.

For a beginner, focus on survivability upgrades. Extra health, any kind of health regen or life steal, and movement speed (for running away). Stuff like that. If you find that you can't survive a toe-to-toe exchange with an enemy player, just wander the map picking up Solar coins and killing enemy droids if you catch them without an escort.

Finally had a chance to play around with a couple of the new characters this afternoon. Not sure I really wrapped my head around how to be effective with Skolldor. His upgraded throw move is great for defending turrets. Wade in past the droids, chuck the enemy Awesomenauts in the turret's firing range, turn around, punch them around a little, watch them die. But he's pretty squishy, presents a big target, and without any lifesteal I found myself having to retreat a lot.

I instantly clicked with Gnaw, though. Jump in, take a couple bites, jump out, drop a Weedling, jump back in... very fun, active style. I keep forgetting to use his acid barf thingy, though. I should experiment with builds that focus on it to see what it can do.

Just unlocked the sniper chick, haven't had a chance to use her yet, but I've played against her a couple times and he laser-guided shot was something to watch out for. One hit and I'd typically need to retreat.

YaY, I joined the group!

Well, this is the moba style I like

Played 1 hour, was WOW'ed and bought the soundtrack as well.

Just joined the steam group. I'm excited, not just because it's a great game but I'm not the only moba-n00b in here.

So the DLC is 50% off right now. It's purely cosmetic, just character skins, but I bought it all anyway, 'cause I'm a sucker like that. And also 'cause this game has given me enough enjoyment that the devs deserve a little more of my money. (-:

Yeah, I did the same. Feels good to rock new skins after the many hours I've put into the game. It's also 66% off on Steam right now. $10 alone is a steal for this game. It's my second favorite game is year, but I'm kind of hoping it'll be my third, because I really want to love Far Cry 3.

Well thanks to Niseg I guess I will be playing this on Steam with you guys at some point.

Friend me up if you haven't already. Have it installed. Will hop in sometime this weekend.

I supposed controller is good to play with since it was on PS3 first?

Either control method works fine. I like the feel better with a pad, but use kb+m to make my aiming more precise.

Group invite please.

Last I checked the group was still public. We should probably fix that.

Wrong thread. Tabbed browsing.

I've also recently picked up awesomnaughts and have been enjoying it so far. It looks like the steam group is invite only now, what does someone have to do to get invited?

Just send me a friend request and I'll get you setup. I think I'm going to start posting events before I play, to see if anyone's interested. I'm also going to invite all my awesome friends to the group, do accept, you know it's fun!

I had a nice game earlier today with hbi2k and Gdawg27. We ended up losing because of a late game wipe, but it was an evenly matched, and drawn out game. I only slightly regretted picked Skolldir when I found out Gdawg27 choose Voltar. I've barely played Skolldir, but Gdawg27 did an excellent job healing. I would've died so many times otherwise; he's so damn squishy! Their Gnaw's DoT spit, Lonestar's blinding bull, and Froggy's stun dash were the bane of my existence. I had some nice toys for myself, though. My Bash was upgraded with strength, crit, and stun. Also proving to be quite useful was the increase to speed after a successful throw. I think that's a must have now that I've tried it. PUNCHY PUNCHY PUNCHY.

I still think we might have come back if my flipping controller hadn't died for no reason in the middle of the match.

Well, if you see me online, send me an invite.

I like this game.

Same here, I've gotten in a few practice sessions but haven't seen anyone playing it when I have.
