Salem

Beta sign-ups have started.

I'll start the evil link chain.

And just so this thread isn't just dead links, this game has me a bit excited. I've liked the idea of sim(-ish) MMOs, but there's never been any that also have compelling game mechanics/design--fun--, or at least none I've latched onto. The world, player interaction, and mix of town progression and world exploration is potentially very interesting.

Looks interesting... if you're a WITCH!

I'll be giving this a shot, for sure.

Edit: cyrax, you got a referral from me signing up

Edit: Edit: Sigh. Here's my referral link: http://beta.salemthegame.com/?ref=01...

Btw, I got in the beta in case yall care. Just fired it up the first time. It runs in Java ... which is friggin weird.

Everything about this game screams weird to me, which has me interested.

I had an invite sometime around beta launch, thanks to the folks here, but they had an issue which stopped any playing progress. Hadn't gone back to it yet, so maybe I'll check in soon.

Puzzle Pirates runs in Java too. Actually Salem reminds me alot of it. And of Glitch as well.

Wow, that's a pretty big visual update from the beginnings of closed beta. Now I want to spend more time in it, but time itself is the limited resource.

OK this game has me totally hooked. It is deep, complex and it's the best crafting I've seen since SWG. The combat sucks. The game is not intuitive at all - you have to want to play this game and be willing to spend some time learning the systems. But the thrill of danger with permadeath is great! I should say that after playing it a while I've found that permadeath isn't going to be a game-killer. While it will be a painful loss to die, it won't be the end of the world, especially once I get more established. But yeah, this game is definitely not for everyone.

Still, to me, this game is better than SWTOR.

I am playing with a couple OO'ers (Octopus Overlords, another gaming site) on the Roanoke server if anyone would like to join us. We have the beginning of a nice little hamlet going, with mining, agriculture, etc, all getting started in the past couple days. We did receive a threat from some Russian guys, so we expect to see some possible action soon :).

Any Keys left to join beta?

I believe their site gives them out on a daily basis.

Got in...joined the Roanoke Server

Char name, Andon

Make sure to read Sevenless' Beginner Guide here. You might also want to watch some videos, there are pretty good starter videos out there on youtube.

And if you'd like to play with us (we just have me and another guy really active, but he's in Hong Kong so not online at the normal times) send me a PM and I can give you our homestead password. Once you're out of the tutorial you can talk to a wilderness guide and give him the password and he'll teleport you to our place.

Though you might want to play the game for a day or so first to see if you like it :).

Game is in open beta now.

I haven't touched it since all the Java alerts have gone out. Once Oracle gets that fixed I'll give them game a go. So, in like 5 years, maybe.

Paradox is no longer publishing the game. Wonder how long this'll stay afloat without them.

I've been playing a bunch of Animal Crossing and I've also jumped back into EVE. As always, my interest in EVE will be short lived though enjoyable as I eventually get bored with mining and the politics of everything. Animal Crossing doesn't really have crafting, but it's a wonderfully simple and fun game that makes me want to build up my own homestead however I see fit. Problem is, it's super gamey and limited. So, I've been itching for something where I create my own piece of a world. Do I go the Rune Factory or Harvest Moon route? Nah, again, too gamey. I think I'm going to dive into Salem for real now. As a smaller MMO I'm enticed by the fact that I'm not completely overwhelmed by people who have been playing for 10+ years and mega corporations of griefers.

All that said, I also may be able to get it to run on my work computer. Shhh. Don't tell anyone.

I know. Cost too much $$ for alpha access. Nothing else about it excites me. I can wait for beta.

I caved and bought into alpha; this is the first mmo in years that I'm genuinely excited about, and can't wait to get my hands on it.
