Walking Dead (No Comics! No Spoilers Beyond What's Aired)!

I think he's just an egomaniac who doesn't like it when people don't do what he wants. Sure he want's to protect the place he's built, but for purely selfish reasons.

I think it's both. He needs to show the people of Woodbury that the outside world is horribly dangerous, that only he can protect them, and he is also paranoid of someone else like him being out there. If things went according to plan, I'm sure he would have made an announcement about how her corpse was found and she didn't even survive a day after leaving the safety of their town.

If he were just worried about protecting his group, he wouldn't have slaughtered the National Guardsmen they found, he'd have welcomed people with military training to help protect his town. If he was afraid they'd come in and take over, he could have just left them alone. Instead he killed them, took their stuff, and lied about their deaths to keep the townsfolk too afraid to leave.

Why is he hatching In the book?
To paint him as a but insane?
It didn't look like counting when he was doing it.

And do we have any idea why he wants heads? Just another insane thing? He kept the army guy's. had he turned?

Zombie heads in fishtanks are the post-apocalyptic equivalent to lava lamps.
And yes, the Governor is at least a little insane. If you dare brave one of the threads where comic spoilers are allowed I can take a crack at the journal hatching. It involves Penny, but it'd get into stuff from the comic and Rise of the Governor.

OK seriously stop bringing the comics up in here. I don't care how innocuous it seems, the whole reason for this thread is because NO ONE wants comic talk period.

Which is why I said I would talk about it in the other thread. Calm down a skosh. Penny has been introduced and her relationship with the Governor established in the show already, so it's not a spoiler. That she exists in the comic is not a spoiler. Hell, following the rules of the thread I could put my theory out there and not have it be a spoiler. It doesn't require knowledge from the comics, but it helps. I know the significance behind some of the things they've already shown us that someone who doesn't know the comic's version of event might not pick up on. I can explain my theory using just what the series has shown, but I figured out of courtesy I'd just say that it'd be easier to explain in a different thread.

Spoiler:

The other thread has less shouting.

OUT!

I'm OK with being told, if you want to know more about "that topic which has been introduced in the show", it's explained in the comic. For me, in this thread, we've stayed away from spoiler territory successfully. I know we all have different expectations there though.

I understand the sensitivity too.

I've been trying so hard to avoid spoilers from the comics (which mainly involves shouting at my kids at the dinner table) so I'm also hyper-sensitive to the mere mention of the word "comic" in this thread.

Most people at this point are aware that the writers are cultivating their stories from the comics. I would respectfully ask that we just not bring it up in this thread at all.

Sorry if I came off to aggressive Stengah, this is all I was trying to get across. It was the constant mention of the comics in the other thread that started the whole spoiler situation over there. I would also appreciate people not bringing them up at all, there is no point. I just want to talk about the TV show as is, and as far as I concerned the comics never happened.

In the comics, issue 12, Gaald says the exact same thing!

I understand that, it's exactly why I told him we could take it to a different thread instead of just explaining it with a [ comic spoiler] warning.

For what it's worth; maybe add it to the thread's title? We now have three threads; I know that there's people that enjoy the comics. As someone that has read almost all of them, there are a bunch of things from the TV series that I want to discuss or compare with the comic. That's why I take it to the other thread.

To avoid ANY further (justified) frustration, let's pretend the comics don't exist.
We take topics from one thread to the next all the time. Why can't we do that here as well?

Great episode, albeit creepy. Episode spoilers below.

Spoiler:

Anyone else creeped out how the Governor touched Andrea at the end of the episode in the same way he mockingly touched Maggie on the cheek?
What did everyone else think about Michonne not saying anything about Merle to Daryl? Do you think she is waiting for the right moment, because I think she heard the conversation and is smart enough to connect the dots. After all she was smart enough to bring the formula and find the prison.

Spoiler:

Not surprising at all. Daryl being there is probably a huge part of the reason she is so shut-off from the prison group. How different can one brother really be from the other? One just tried to hunt her down and kill her, now this one points a crossbow at her head. I would be hard-pressed to give him any reason to try to beat information out of me, too. Once they are where they are at the edge of town, I see her opening up, at least to Rick, early in the episode; let him deal with the potentially hard decision.

Very good rationale. I guess it does make sense. I should have seen that...

Hey guys, I just wanted to point out again that, once the episode has aired there is no need for spoilers. Spoilers are only necessary if there is outside the episode information being talked about, which hopefully there will be very, very little of. Otherwise people should know to avoid wandering in here until they are caught up. I appreciate the concern for spoiling stuff though. Thanks.

So yeah this episode was pretty great, and so far this whole half of the season has been really good. Especially compared to last year.

I was also wondering why Michonne didn't tell Daryl about Earl, but I think Atras is totally right. Thanks for that Atras.

Also Glen kicks so much ass! He and Daryl are the best characters in the whole show.

Agreed.
Also I was going to mention the whole spoiler tag thing but I knew that in a short while GAAAAALD would be in

I only hope that Darryl and gang meet up with Merl and gang on the road before they reach the prison. I hope bro and bro do epic battle and then kiss and make up in the end.
I predict that MErl will end up beeing a sweetheart after seeing his brother and that he and Glen become best buddies.

LOL

I just don't see that ever happening. Merl is dead, he isn't a nice guy, and after what they did to him there is no way he is ever going to forgive them and I think Rick would know that. So you can't trust him. In the end I think Daryl will end up killing his brother to protect the group and his woman.

I await some Glenn vengeance.
Seeing him stare down his captors while comforting Maggie was intense.

I will remember the about spoilers next week. I think was confused that I made it to the thread and posted before anyone else... that never happens.

Seeing as how Carl is in charge at the prison, I sure hope someone runs into them before they get there!! On the other hand, when Merle sees that they are only women and children and a one legged old dude maybe he'll start his sweetheart kick sooner.

It killed me to see Glen getting beat up, I was cringing and looking away through the worst parts ... and I was sooooooo happy to see them throw Maggie into his arms and not take her with them when they left. I think together they can handle anything, being separated was real torture because of the fear of the unknown. And oh, man, Glen was totally badass!!

I was really frustrated that Michonne didn't warn them that Merle was the one that abducted Glen and Maggie (to the point that I tried telling them myself even!) She has ample evidence by now to know that these people are NOT like Merle and the Gov, we saw her take note of that several times. I agree that she'll come clean pretty soon. She can't just let Merle get the drop on them by the element of surprise. She has to also realize that her own survival depends on their success now that she's entering Woodbury with them. They're already outnumbered and likely going up against some heavy ammo (even though that one chick didn't seem to be able to hit the broad side of a barn with an arrow). Daryl especially needs to know that he's getting ready to run into his brother - that I'm sure he has long since presumed dead - and that Merle hasn't found enlightenment since they last saw him. He's a dirtier SOB now than ever! I hate how unprepared they may be for that encounter.

On the other hand, the Gov and Merle have no idea that Rick and Co. know what happened to Glen and Maggie and are already so close on their trail, so they still have a little of an element of surprise in their favor there. If Merle leaves for the prison as Rick & Co are entering Woodbury, I'm wondering where Daryl and Merle will meet up - they might even leave that as a cliffhanger, bastards that they are.

This is definitely leading up to a really intense and scary mid-season closer. Can't wait! (But I'm pre-bummed about the wait for the second half of the season.)

Glen's primal scream after defeating the zombie was awesome.

This is what I want as well. Also it would be great for Maggie to get some vengeance as well.

Oh yeah, totally creeped out here! But I think that was the point, to show how deranged and whacko the guy is. Sooooo relieved that Maggie didn't get raped (I spent that whole scene tense as hell, dreading it).

I thought it was nicely done, how Glenn didn't speak a single word the entire episode (well, aside from that primal scream, but I don't call that a word per se). really interesting, what they did there.

My guess is that Michonne doesn't trust Rick, Darryl and the rest just yet, which I can completely understand. Sometimes, the whole "enemy of my enemy" thing doesn't work out too well, so I get that she's wary. It's how she's survived this far, right?

Finally, anyone else think it was weird that this guy had been holed up in his cabin for, like, forever, and hadn't come across a single walker? Seemed really, really weird. I would've bought it in the first couple of weeks, but it's been months since the outbreak. That's just bizarre...

I'm definitely looking forward to this mid-season finale!!

I think that at first Daryl will side with Merl because he's family. Merl will give him crap for going soft, and Daryl will realize after a bit that Merl is just a lackey and that Daryl really has become important within his group. The climax will come when Merl is about to kill Rick and Daryl will have to kill his own brother to save him.

Also, who's going to "get" The Governor? Maggie? Mishonne? Andrea...? Maybe they'll let his biters have him.

I liked the respect our group has been getting for surviving for so long. The Governor actually seemed a little freaked out about our group. Wait'll they show up on his doorstep!

Anyone know when the second half of the season is airing?

Depending on the timing it is possible Daryl won't meet his brother if Merl leads a group to the prison. I'm really curious to see if the town sends out a group before Rick and crew attack. If the Gov. over estimates how many people it would take to clear the prison, he might send a pretty sizable force. Leaving a skeleton crew behind. That would be great for Rick and crew attacking the town but very bad for those left at the prison.

I can't wait to see what happens! This season has been way better than the last imho.

*edit*

I bet both Merl and the Gov. lead a huge force and capture everyone at the prison. All the while Rick and crew take over the town. They'll then ambush Merl and the Gov. at their own gates. Hmm I just don't know, such a crazy situation with so many people involved. Maybe Rick and crew will just sneak around and not fight.

Heck it could just be a bloodbath, with this show you just never know!

Yeah, that scenario is completely plausible, I've toyed with it too...

My guess is not before February, if last year is any indication. Gosh, the wait is going to be so hard!!!!

Who kills Humperdink?!

I bet his zombie daughter eats him.
