Planetside 2 Catch-All

Seems like the AA is weaker than I remember it. I bought one of those lock-on missile launchers for the Heavy Weapons guy and it took five (i.e. his entire loadout) rockets to take down a single Reaver. Seems excessive. Similarly, constantly hitting aircraft with a MAX AA flak cannon doesn't seem to damage them very much. Anyone else encountering this?

Yeah, I was REALLY disappointed in this. What are you supposed to do about vehicles when the weapons that are "designed" to take them out take forever to kill them, have very low reload speeds and only 5 shots?

Currently I'm finding combat more about influencing what the enemy does, i.e. shooting an aircraft to make them move away, than outright killing them.

Vehicles really aren't meant to be taken down by solo infantry. It was the same way in the first game.

I thought pressing N did this. Did it change to Page Down or did I rebind my key and forget?

It turns out real warfare has this goal as well. I prefer games that work that way rather than body count.

Me too, I repaired a turret the other night, got in and blasted a Reaver a lot but it only came down 1/4 health before running away. Unrelated but last night a Mosquito was nearby and on fire and was probably in the clear, but I had my sniper rifle handy and figured I'd blast it anyway, lucky for me, one shot was enough! +100 XP Mosquito Kill :)

I am a 275, out of curiosity, what are your settings?

Render quality is at 100%, all the drop down boxes are at Medium, none of the check boxes are checked, 1920x1080, it won't even allow me to choose gpu physics, which is weird, but I have a Core i7 920 @ 2.66GHz.

Can anyone recommend a shotgun? Thinking about picking one up for my combat medic but I never see anyone else using one.

I've been on the receiving end of them, but haven't used them. You can trial a weapon for 30 minutes for free, so I'd recommend doing that. You get the trial option at the same time you get the buy option, think its on the bottom.

You can play solo you just really have to know what your doing. I love playing a light assault by myself, I can rack up a damn good score. Of course this was after being in the beta forever, and I know most the good high points to fight from. Also even if your playing alone, just get a sunderer and an army will follow you fast enough. Assuming you got the deploy option.

Then it's pretty annoying to see "Anti-vehicle Rocket Launcher" as something you can buy.

As a new player, a Heavy Weapons guy with a rocket launcher is about as much as I can contribute to a battle mostly involving tanks, since I can't seem to spawn or pilot one.

I was forced mat, gunpoint to switch to TR on our east coast server.
Know this though, when I see a gwjer, I'll kill you with love.

Anyone else playing red?

PhysX is currently disabled so that can't be it.

I think that's really the problem. If the game would let my GPU handle the physx stuff it could burn through it like a champ and let my CPU worry about other things.

Nuean wrote:

The difference now is that you CAN take out a vehicle by yourself. Easily even, just get right up to it. Only takes 2 rockets to down a magrider from the back. I personally feel that rocket damage is way too high compared to tank shells.

If you guys are not playing with an outfit there are a bunch of us meeting up on Ventrilo for some basic squad play. There is very little you can accomplish solo in this game so it's a lot more fun with others.

What faction you playing? I should be able to start playing sometime in the next week or so; just moved and should be settled in.

Ah so outta box settings that they gave me too then. Thank you for that info.

I was just wondering how much more I could push the system. Have virtually the same set-up except the GPU and that my CPU is OCed to 3.6 ghz.

I guess I m finally starting to hit that point on my GPU's lifespan where I can't run games at near maxed out or mostly high settings anymore.

Man the server is BORKED UP. Nothing could be repaired, gens vehicles etc. Nothing could be rearmed. And vehicles could be killed but not destroyed. Yeah. Gonna need a server reset for this.

Pretty much sums it up. AA isn't supposed to smash aircraft out of the air like a flyswatter. It's supposed to be a deterrent, area denial. Leave this bubble of space or be destroyed. In the beta AA was FAR too powerful, stuff would just melt if it got anywhere near a single skyguard. You ended up with giant dead zones where aircraft just couldn't go, and as a result you never saw them affecting battles on the ground. Now you can chase things away but you can't pin them down and destroy them without piloting an aircraft yourself.

We are spread out a little but the vast majority are playing Vanu on Watterson.

Yeah, east server was hosed earlier. There was a guy in the platoon that kept spawning invisible vehicles. Rather than destroy everything without being killed he just logged off. Another issue was endlessly falling through the ground whenever you tried to jump.

Also, enjoyed my time in the outfit tonight. Really, the only orders is when the main guy just request groups to try to take different things but you can use whatever class. It was fun and they were great. :)

Are you in Dawn?

Yes

Some people might be interested in this, as far as I can tell it is completely legitimate. As part of what I guess is a SOE cross-site thing you can log into other SOE games, namely Free Realms and Clone Wars Adventures, and receive 170 Station Cash into your account. All the information is in this Reddit thread, along with a bunch of justified skepticism. Check it out yourself, don't push yourself into anything if it feels sketchy. I tried it myself, quitting out of both websites after agreeing to the EULA and without downloading anything, I did receive 170 Station Cash. I suspect that it probably put me on mailing lists for both those games, but I'll can block those addresses if need be.

Also, on the official forums, someone created a thread showing off every camouflage pattern. I was pretty curious about how they looked when applied, so maybe this can help someone else out there.

Not that the naturally superior Vanu need any camouflage.

Terrible things have happened.

So I'm looking at the in game store and I see SOE have some "bundles" up as weekly sales (Infiltrator, Infantry Starter and Gear Starter), but nowhere that I can find is a description of what these actually *contain*. Anyone have any idea, or where I can look? I'm tempted by the Infiltrator one, but would rather know in advance what I'd be getting for those 700 SC.

Just hit buy, tells you exactly what's in them on the window that pops up.

Tamren wrote:

Oh ok, thanks As it just had the "unlock" button showing, I wasn't sure if it was a 1-click thing or not.

So apparently the Infiltrator bundle contains the Ghost sniper rilfe, something called a Sandy Scrub (no further info), and a armor suit and helmet. I noticed the different armors and helmets before while perusing the shop, and couldn't gather if they were just ornamental (which is what I thought based on the description) or actually give you any real additional protection. Any insights?

Station cash half price today only!
I picked up 4000 for $20

I am away from my client can 4000sc buy much?

Mmmm my laptop seems already way underpowered. With everything on low fps is way low, too low for surviving for sure.
Tried the game for maybe 3 minutes. Got killed and killed again....maybe some time later. Right now...not liking it already lol

Yes.
I can wholehartedly say, yes.

I bought into the alpha squad early on and got 4000 as part of the packge (so now I have over 8000 because i had some already). I've not even close to spent it all yet. I can see spending alot more as you level up so take advantage of it. I may put down another $10!

That's a pretty good deal. I've paid more for less (relatively speaking) for Tribes Ascend and I got more than my money's worth out of that game.

Since I already have SC and no plans to spend it yet I'm just going to wait until I run out before getting more. Most weapons cost 700 SC and I can still afford 4 more at that price. But the real crunch is certs since the base weapon without any upgrades is not very useful.

Helmets and extra fins for your aircraft are purely ornamental. Fins probably don't change your hitbox, it would unbalance the game a bit.

Camo however CAN be useful. I have the alpha squad camo which puts purple swirls all over my armour and vehicles. I actually like it a lot because it makes friendly fire less likely. Camo on infantry is not very useful. "digital camo" is still brightly coloured, and terrain camo like "desert scrub" only covers some of you. A vanu in desert camo will look part purple, part splotchy tan. Not very effective.

Camo on vehicles can be very good however. It depend on which one. Some of them can only be partially coloured, liberators will still have white wings no matter what camo or faction you are. Galaxies retain a lot of grey bits too. The Sunderer however is a blank canvas. Yesterday I was flying around with Stylez on Esamir and I almost missed an enemy sunderer because it was using snow camo and I didn't see it. In fact I wouldn't have noticed it at all if the driver hadn't started to repair it and I saw the flashes.

Do some research before you buy any of them. Tannhauser posted a complete camo list upthread.

Dun dun dun duuuun dun, dun dun dun DUUUUUUN dun...

TR definitely win for organization, but they pay for that quantity with quality. Definitely the least mature player population.

Who are you running with Tamren?

I played around with a TR alt a bit today and damn that Carv is a sick gun!

I haven't played TR since beta, but even that told me all I needed to know.
