Steam Winter Sale 2012 - Seriously Guys, It Was Over Two Months Ago! Move Along!

Why does my need for gadgets come at a time whewn steam throws a sale up?
Xcom looks so tasty but I just cleaned out my account for a nexus 10 tablet.

I'll just wait and hope it comes back soon.

In the same boat as many others this time around in that I don't really feel the need for any more games at this point. We'll see how long that lasts.

Hmmmm, I've been wanting XCom to go on sale... I'm torn between grabbing it now, or holding out a little while longer for a deeper discount (maybe the Winter/Xmas sale).

*edit: Nevermind... my wishlist.... so full of sales.... my wallet.... my willpower.... resistance... failing...

Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble is the new Secret of the Magic Crystals.

I was under the impression Dangerous High is actually pretty good.

Yes it is, actually; it has won several awards for writing. By contrast, the Magic Crystals developers admitted that their game was pretty bad.

The Dangerous High developers deserve money, but this would be for the wrong reasons.

This sale is (supposed to be) peanuts compared to the Winter Sale. I think this is only the second annual Autumn one, and the discounts weren't as crazy -- or the duration as long -- as the Winter ones. The giant meta-games have only accompanied the world-shattering Summer/Winter events.

So here's my theory on the topic. I'm guessing that the plan is to lower prices for the Autumn sale just enough to invite interest. That way the sales increase, but the profit keeps up. Then, during the Winter sale the prices will drop more to bring in all the people who didn't bite on the same games during the Autumn sale.

EDIT: By the way, I'm sure Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble is a fine and wonderful game. I don't really know. The premise just strikes me to be in the similar vein as Secret.

I believe I had Dangerous High School Girls on my Wishlist. I played the demo a while back and I thought it was charming and boardgamey.

Definitely had it in my wishlist as well before I purged it. It's casual fare, but it's good casual fare according to JayIsGames. Plus I think they went through and refreshed the artwork at one point which suggests they made enough money off it at launch.

Just snagged Zombie Driver HD. Enjoyed the original, and this one has a soundtrack. I loves me some soundtracks. So two games for myself so far.

People interested in Dishonored should probably wait for the 23rd.
GMG is promising it at 50% off at that date: Link.

Well, given that Dishonored and Skyrim are the only two things on my "actually need to play this so I know what I'm talking about" list, I should probably keep an eye on that.

For you budding game developers out there, GameMaker Studio Web Collection for $49 (75% off). So for the price of the standard software, they give you the Professional version plus the HTML5 exporter.

See, this is the good that comes from Steam -- GM was *never* on sale like this.

I'd love to gift some stuff, but Steam won't allow me to send anything to someone not on my friends list - and apparently, I have almost no fellow Goodjers on my friend list (for shame!!).

So friend me up (Mimble75) so I can be all gifty to people when I want to.

I'm skimming, but the only games I want right now are Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, XCOM, and Dishonored.

Should I spend the $100 that these three games are going to cost me or should I hold out for probably 1 month and see if I can get them cheaper?

Well I'm getting Chivalry, so should I wait to see if XCOM and Dishonored is cheaper during the winter sale?

One of the flash sales is intrusion 2, it looks fun. Anyone can enable me?

My view is that the lowest it'll go on winter is $25 (I can't remember a major release dropping down to $19.99), so is the value of $8 worth the wait until December or so.

I would wait on Chivalry. Unless I'm missing something it's not a daily deal today.

So it's probably bad style to quote myself, but anyway, GMG also advertises a 20% discount code (GMG20-1FYLZ-EDG8R) that is valid until 23rd November 2012 12:00 UTC/GMT, while the Dishonored/Skyrim/Doom/X-COM/etc. sale is up from 0001 GMT Friday November 23rd. So anyone looking to buy any of these games should remember to check if that code applies.

CAG has Amazon selling Dishonored for $25 tomorrow as well.

Who changes their name? Seriously.

Yeah, really! uh...

Just noticed that the non-daily deals are pretty damn good too. Lots of my wishlist is at 50% off, including Max Payne 3 and Endless Space. Looking forward to bigger drops on those titles at Christmas

Grabbed Cubemen 2-Pack, Cargo Commander so far. For €2 a piece, can't argue with the price.
For an impression of Cargo Commander check out this youtube:

Unity of Command is half off! Gonna wait, hope for a deeper discount
Endless Space is tempting too at 50% off.

Things I'm eyeing atm, Worms Revolution, Hotline Miami, Unity of Command, maybe Wanderlust.
But as is the rule of Steam Sales, do not buy unless it's on Daily Deal until the last day.
At 75% off I'll go for it something not in a Daily though.

So Torchlight 2 is coming to mac... If I get it during the sale, and it becomes a steamplay title, does that mean that I can play it, or do I have to buy it after it becomes available? I've always been a little foggy on that.

Yes, however not 100% of all games that have windows and mac versions are steamplay, a few are sold as two separate things. I think Torchlight1 was steamplay though.

Thanks.

On a related note, If anyone hasn't played Cave Story, it's $2.50 right now. There's no excuse not to get it.

There's a 62 MB demo. I played it. Didn't liked it.

That's pretty amazing. No sale on the Android/iOS parts. But still... wow.

Thanks Wembley! Greatly appreciated!

OMD2 is 50% off, and the first 2 DLCs are too. But the new DLC and complete version have no sale. Ugh. :(

This has been corrected. OMD2 Complete is $12.49. New DLC is $2.49 like the others.

Now do I pull the trigger or wait for $9.99?

It's probably worth it. But it's technically no different than the sale 3 weeks back. I could have just got it for $10 then and the last DLC now and been playing it for weeks... bah.

EDIT: Duh it's not a flash/daily sale. Got to wait and see if it goes cheaper before Tues.

It's not from the steam sale, but I recently bought the humble bundle and I have codes for the following games.

- Avadon: The Black Fortress
- Cannabalt
- COGS
- Swords & Soldiers
- Zen Bound 2

In the spirit of giving, I'll give the codes for the games out to the first person I get a PM from letting me know which one they want. Since I have to pay tuition next month, I can't gift a ton of Steam sale games. This is all I got.

Home, which they talked about on the CC for Halloween, is $1. (OK, $1.01)

I would agree with that for the most part, that is why I only buy stuff now I plan on playing or wait for games to hit certain "floors". You will very rarely see a big AAA game go below $2.50 regardless of age (see KOTOR2) and more modern games rarely go under $5

Dysplastic wrote:

This $2.50/$5 "floors" strategy is the way to go. Additionally, essentially no back-catalog games go lower than 75% off, so you needn't wait on those. Check your wishlists; you'll find quite a number of discounts that meet these criteria. That means that if you were planning on buying Hegemony Gold or AI War or Zeno Clash ($0.99!!), you can do it.

And make sure to check http://www.steamgamesales.com for the price history of a game to see what you can expect. Here's a handy tip for quickly doing so for a given game:

Tip: When browsing the Steam store, you can swap in our URL to be redirected to price history for that game. For example, http://store.steampowered.com/app/20... would become http://steamgamesales.com/app/20920/.

In the spirit of giving. Anyone want Civ 5?
