Can't this just be done anyway?

Yay cruel and unusual punishment! It's OK if you don't like the person you're flaying!

*facepalm*

Dude, joke.

Dude, habeus corpus and due process.

Dude, he's Canadian, they don't have real laws up there.

We just throw all accused criminals in the bear pit. If the bear doesn't kill them, the defendant is cleared of all charges and the prosecution has to send them a written apology.

I always figured your political process was some kind of outdoorsy Master Blaster thing; two moose enter, one becomes Prime Minister.

Frankly, this "plan" by Rove sounds like the kind of thing that would have been thought up as a plot point for a 90s movie in the nascent days of the internet. Not buying it at all.

My inclination is with Milkman. That said, there seem to be a lot of people who actually know what they're talking about in regards to network security suggesting that this was possible. Are they all bullsh*tters? Possibly. Probably. I'd like to hear about what some real experts think. I don't like dismissing things like this out of hand. A lot of these crazy conspiracy theories from the Bush-Rove era ended up coming true.

Also, why would anyone want to be Prime Minister of Canada? I'm pretty sure Harper and Ignatieff were actively trying to lose the last election. Sure, you get some leadering experience but really, move on to a real country like Guam or Rhodesia.

I'm dubious. Canadians always apologize first.

Well I've worked network security for a major political party during an election (incidentally it was the only time in the last 4 elections the party site didn't get hacked) and set up their secure voter ID and donations reporting systems if that helps. From what I've read it's at least feasible but I'd want to see a lot more detail.

*looks at Anonymous* Sure thing, giant beer!

Hmm, I'm not sure if Rove was the type to outright steal an election. He seems to me as a "works the system" kind of guy, finding the loopholes and exploiting them. In my admittedly ignorant opinion, I'm not sure he is the "let's commit massive fraud and treason" type.

Alot of the times there is no distinction between the two. An argument could also be made that the only distinction between these is whether you get caught or not.

Well put. I really see him as a do anything to win kind of guy so I doubt anything would surprise me anymore from him.

I'm sure he's got some lines. He wouldn't shoot his own mother to win an election. But I think he'd be okay with shooting mine, or at least having it done by someone else.

He is pretty much the philosophical inheritor of the whole Richard Nixon "dirty tricks" team.
