Steam Winter Sale 2012 - Seriously Guys, It Was Over Two Months Ago! Move Along!

I just bought a $50 Steam wallet card tonight in anticipation. My goal is to limit all purchases and gifts to that amount... the summer sale got a bit out of control! I don't regret a thing, but a repeat performance probably should not happen.

Seriously? there are more deserving folks. I have a larger backlog than most and play pc games on a not-particularly gaming laptop so for the most part am a filthy unwashed console gamer. Do the right thing and look elsewhere.

edit: although if anything I've played and liked is on sale for $5 or less and steam friends have it on their wishlist, I'm probably in for some gifting, so by all means steam-friend me if you are non coffee grinder.

xcom would be nice, what are the chances it'll hit $25? hmm

Sleeping Dogs could be fun, as would CODBOP2

no way in hell you'll see BO2 for 25... First BO is still 40$

Seriously?

No, not really. I just thought it was funny.

I was referring to Xcom.
Half price? Maybe? could happen...

Had something strange happen on Amazon. Dungeon Defenders is currently 80% off and is $3. Bought it, but it cost nothing. Apparently, there are certain game downloads that you get a $5 credit with your purchase. So, yeah, unexpectedly free game!

How about a rich army of well-connected women clones?

Don't buy anything you can't complete, so open ended games, or short games you can finish before getting the next one. That avoids putting it on a queue.

So funny story. I bought one piece of DLC in the summer sale, and my pile still grew by 20 games. Wishlists are bad I tell you. BAD!

Do you need a sponsor?

Nah, should be good. Just going to pass stuff along unless the gifter puts effort into the gifting.

I hope Planetside 2 goes -50% off. With my math skills I figure SOE will owe ME money. Excellent.

EDIT: Why does my Chrome spellchecker thing underscore the word 'math'?

I'm guessing because it is a truncation of mathematics, and in all countries outside the USofA, that's how we roll, calling it maths.

Just another example of our love of redundant letters (colour, favour, through).

I was once like you. Full of hope, complete confidence in my ability to weather these sales and emerge unscathed.

Experience is a cruel teacher.

Last Winter was hard fought. I held my ground, but lost $44.88 to The Beast over the course of the campaign.

Before the Summer sale, I thought I had everything under control. My resolve was unshakable... until the enemy unleashed monstrous savings, the likes of which I had never before seen. It was a massacre. Not even the pennies were spared. The Beast claimed $92.61 in two short weeks, and I fled with what little remained.

This Winter, I don't know what to expect. You can plainly see the scars where The Beast tore into my wallet. I have no delusions of grandeur, no show of bravado for my brothers and sisters in arms. Only the few who survive will know the true price we pay for our games.

Money will be spent, of that I am certain. All we can do is wait.

I will hold as long as I can.

Gabe have mercy on us all.

Can I elect you to write about any upcoming events in this style?

I've pretty much not touched anything from the summer sale and have nabbed some deals on console games during sales lately so I will avoid this thread like the plague.

Good luck to you all.

No one escapes the Winter Sale. No. One.

Me? I'm looking at Skyrim, Torchlight 2, rounding out my Assassin's Creed collection...I'm never going to play any of these, but at least I can say I have them!

I'm thinking I'll be safe this fall. My gaming PC is currently out of commission, so anything I buy needs to also work on Mac (for my work laptop). Currently hoping for deals on Crusader Kings II and Endless Space. Looks like Borderlands 2 is also OS X-compatible, so a deal on that might be nice. Of course, all reason goes out the window once the sale starts, so we'll see how long I hold strong. I'm sure I'll tell myself "oh, but think of when you get the PC fixed!" many times over the next month.

Why Soitenly.

Here are my breaking points for the sale.

$15 Tier
Dark Souls

$10 Tier
Torchlight 2
The Darkness 2
The Walking Dead
Lost Planet 2
Age of Empires 3: Collection
ARMA 2: Combined Ops (Day Z)

$5 Tier
Hotline Miami
CS: GO
FTL
I Am Alive
Mark of the Ninja
Magic: DOTP 2013

As usual, I plan to buy nothing. This plan will probably fail, as it has during every past Steam sale. But seriously, nothing this time. Unless the Game of Thrones RPG hits $15.

I'm just waiting for one of you monsters to unleash this winter's Sparkle Pony equivalent.

These are the only things high on my wishlist right now.

Just noticed Civ5, Portal 2 and Left4Dead 2 all received little updates tonight.

These nuns you speak of... are they naked and hot?

If so, gifting for all!!!

These threads are the highlight of my ENTIRE YEAR, but my massive pile dictates that I'll be waiting until December unless I'm compelled to dole out some gifty goodness. I'm almost certainly going to hold out for another month, though.

I don't plan on buying anything during the autumn sale, except for maybe an impulse buy for something on my wishlist that's less than $5. As usual, I have plenty of games that need to be played at the moment. I just got XCOM:EU from GMG for $32, which I plan to start during this upcoming long weekend.

For the winter sale, I'll pull the trigger on The Walking Dead pack and Mark of the Ninja if they're on a daily deal.

Does this mean new achievements and sale-related meta gaming? I actually enjoyed that during last year's winter sale.

This is gonna be great. Another Steam sale, another series of cold realizations that everything that's 80% off I've already bought full-price three years ago.

FTFY (or is that just me)?

It's all of us really.

The sale hasn't started and only 58 posts so far? GWJ, I am dissapoint.
