Ok, that's mighty kind of him.

Also, the total is at 5.75 mil now. If it hits 6 mil, we get a full orchestral soundtrack and a bunch more systems/missions. Sounds great! Four hours left!

Damn it. I was doing so well ignoring this damn thing. Then I realized that I would have to own this damn thing anyways once it launches so why the hell not. And I'm a sucker for Soundtracks.

I am very tempted. Especially knowing that there is a big group here that is going to play this game. But my pile o'shame is just too huge to add on even more.
And then there is also Elite...

Game won't be out for two years, and the Elite kickstarter is a giant pile of dead babies covered in sh*t (i.e. what a clusterf*ck).

Heh, Star Citizen has got more in the last day than Elite4 managed so far in 2 weeks. I wonder if the focus will move over when SC is finished.

With their horrid pitch and lack of updates? Whatever, people aren't stupid.

wow, the hatred....

Anyway, I will not get either off them through kickstarter. First the pile should be way less. Maybe somewhere down the line I might collapse and get it anyway lol
Time will tell.

OH yeah, I'm honestly disgusted with the Elite: Dangerous kickstarter.

$6,000,115

Boom!

I believe they've unlocked all stretch goals from what i can tell by total crowd funding goal achieved. And kickstarter alone is over 2 million now with 90 minutes to go...this is insanetly awesome.

Proof positive, the fans have spoken, the space combat sim for PC is not dead:)

Can't wait to see the sales figures when this game actually launches in 2-3 years.

I'm near tears right now. Space sim fans never went anywhere, we were just abandoned. I hope this shows other devs and publishers that we WANT these games, and we'll pay for them.

Veloxi wrote:

Well, not anymore. We blew our budget on the promise of a Space Sim. A much much sweeter experience than actually playing the damn things.

Hahahahahaha, wow, you ARE an asshole aren'tcha?

My spaceship will be called "Delightfully Sardonic II."

Feh.

Wow, 6.1 mil with 43 minutes left. Figure it has a legit chance for 6.5?

The game smells way too much of paid DLC to me. Not going to back it at all until I better understand the deals on offer. (ie, when it ships.)

There is going to be some things once can pay for, but they've emphasized it's not "pay to win" or anything. 'Sides, I don't mind DLC if it's worthwhile DLC.

Which is why I'm going to wait until it ships, because I want to know what I'm actually buying. There's enough of a stench of greed to the way things are structured that I'm not willing to touch it without a lot more info.

Plus, I don't see how getting a big, powerful ship in exchange for giving them 250 bones could be construed as anything but pay to win.

Yeah, I commented on that over in the general Space Sims thread, because I'd somehow missed this thread.

I can't quite make up my mind whether Kickstarter rewards pose the same problem as pre-order/"collector's edition" bonuses, or create a new but related one. But there's unquestionably tension between wanting to give people incentives to contribute, and wanting the game to offer a level playing field when it's released.

I want to see a space-sim renaissance, and I figure I'll end up buying the game when it comes out anyway, so I chipped in despite my misgivings about the side-effects of crowdfunding. But then, I also pre-ordered Spore.

Also, is there a list somewhere of the perks that all backers are getting? The stretch goals included a lot of "oh, and 500 extra starting credits" and "another skin" and whatnot, but I'd like to see all of that in one place.

I think it depends on what your end goal is. You probably don't want a big powerful ship if you're trying to Han Solo around the galaxy right?

With too many questions concerns I have over this, I just chipped them $10. I have fond memories of WC1, but I never dove deep in the series or the genre at large. However, I'm a firm believer that the industry needs a swift kick in the rear to break the publisher FPS/Social genre lock. Getting this game going and other projects on KS is part of that effort, and I'll gladly buy this game if it still appeals to me in 2014/2015 when it ships and if I have a system capable of running it

From what I read the persistent online portion of the game will have a system similar to the one in EVE Online in that the ships you buy with inworld cash, may be destroyed permanently under certain conditions (or cost a really high recovery fee). However you can pay to "insure" your ship so that if destroyed, you will get it back for free or much reduced recovery cost or even the credit value of the ship and items equipped at the time the insurance was bought. This should allow you to repurchase a new ship to replace the one destroyed, if the market rate of the ship hasn't changed that much.

But if you pay for the ship with real world cash, like in the Kickstarter, the ship is considered to be always insured and always available to you to use.

If it's just a basic ship with pea-shooters for equipment, or there's a lot of upgrades from the starting ships, then it's less of an issue for me. Something to keep an eye on maybe, but I'd like to think they know their own game enough that they wouldn't break it.

So the in-game economy is boned from the start. Good to know. Looks like I'll be sticking to private servers.

I'm also not too keen on the fact that any ship earned in-game only exists until someone with an infinite supply of RMT ships decides to zerg it to death.

Also keep in mind that there are people like me who don't do Kickstarter. I'll be buying this when (if) it comes out. I'm a consumer not a venture capitalist. So this game will definitely have additional sales over the people that contributed money.

In Eve, however, the bulk of the cost of a ship was in the equipment, weapons, and upgrades, which were not covered by insurance. I hope they do something a little bit differently.

Reactionary quote is reactionary! The game is still 2 years out (Im betting on 3) and although we know a lot, we still dont have a good idea of what the average gameplay session will feel like.

I bet those $200+ ships aren't exactly big sellers anyway.

Well they are also offering pirate ships that have two of the 4 or 5 things you need to attempt a full board and capture of another player's ship. Could be the economy is boned from that too. Or more likely they have taken that into consideration and will come up with something. And if not, since all backers are part of the development process as well, raise up the issue with enough support from others and they should do something. Has worked on other Kickstarter projects before. Backer input should be one of the key benefits that develops can easily use; here you have easy access to an interested and willing focus group.
