Google Android catch-all

I love my GNex. There's probably a few posts about it in this thread.

I don't know anything about the other 2 phones Nexus is likely the answer.

How has your battery been treating you?

I got a Note II the other day and so far I'm digging it. The size takes some getting used to, but the fact that I have fairly large hands has been helpful. Still trying to get used to all the stylus features and gestures. I remember seeing in a review that there is some sort of multi-window feature where you could say, have a youtube video open while still surfing the web, but it's been disabled in the US version. Kind of sucks because that would be a neat thing to have.

Now that I am over in Korea I can see why they made another Note. Everybody and their brother here has either the old note or the note II. They love them some huge phone action.

That feature works on my Note. Try holding down the back button and see if the menu comes up. I also have a toggle to the far right in my notification bar, see if yours is off.

Nope, that doesn't work for me. You must be on sprint. According to this article it was omitted from us versions, but sprint did an OTA to add it to their version.

That would be it then. I guess I can't be mad at Sprint anymore for delaying updates.

The problems with 4.2 are hacking me off. I've had more lockups, glitches, install errors and general cockery in the few days since I got that update than in the entire time that I have owned my N7.

Really? Doing what?

I was going to post the opposite that with stock swipe it's starting to feel like the finished product I wanted.

Still need to tweak all the new other stuff though.

Will be borrowing my friend's nexus to help in the decision

The stuff that they added is great, as I said up thread, but general stability seems to be way down. Link.

The auto brightness and crashes are really annoying me, plus a generally reduced responsiveness. I strongly suspect that some of the apps I have running are causing issues, but it will take me ages to figure out what.

The other thing that have noticed is that google services are now using a hell of a lot of my battery; 24 to 27 percent. I never even noticed in the list before, but now it is constantly at number 2, behind the screen.

Is there any backup service for Android that is similar at all to iCloud? Had to restore my iPhone from iCloud last night, and while its not perfect, I'm pretty impressed.

Some stuff already syncs.

Android has a backup/restore embedded into the system.
It never worked for me until 4.1; now my SIII, NoteII and N7 (with 4.2) download all 38 apps upon initial configuration.
Takes about 30 mins and pounds the battery into submission, but I haven't looked for anything since this worked as it should.
I'd still love a "export individual app settings to the cloud", since the N7 internal storage gets wiped with the 4.2 update.

The iCloud backup restored everything (do far) except for music, pictures, and Downcast's podcasts (but did remember which ones I had downloaded). To be fair, I wasn't backing up music or photos because of the cost, and they do offer those services.

I got all my bookmarks along with passwords and cookies. It even had my wallpapers. Pretty impressive.

Buh? Mine didn't.

I don't know if you root your devices but Titanium Backup is perfect if you just want to save one or two apps, or all but that can get tedious.

Tedious?

I schedule TB to back up *everything* every morning at 3 AM. It's not quite as useful as when I had a phone with a micro SD card, but it's still come in handy. Once a week or thereabouts I'll upload everything to Box.Net or whatever service I feel like using.

It can be tedious if you are picking and choosing which apps you want to back up.

You can have Titanium do that for you now automatically. To Dropbox, Box, or Google Drive.

Why not just create a filter, and when you create a schedule, use that filter to only automatically back up the apps you want?

I should read changelogs more often.

Well look who just arrived

Just about to turn it on.

I am really enjoying mine. I have only one complaint and that is a lack of a cover. I search almost everyday for one to be released and it hasn't happened yet.

I can actually lay my iPad cover on the Nexus and it shuts down so I know that that functionality is built it...now lets get a cover!

I just discovered it has 4x anti aliasing!
Enable the developer menu by tapping the about/version item 7 times.go into the new Dev menu and enable it.

A week in and I scratched the screen on my Note II. I had no issues on my Atrix and figured "Hey It's Gorilla Glass I'll be fine." Nope. Luckily I'm in Korea, so getting screen protectors and accessories for the Note II shouldn't be to hard, but I'm still bummed.

How did it happen, for the curious ones in the crowd.

Seriously, I've had three horribly treated gorilla glassed devices that never got scratches on the screen. Please do inform.

Oh geez, now I'm paranoid.

On my S2 replacing the glass only cost $50, even without insurance. I hope it's not much more than that for this.

Fell off my desk onto the linoleum floor. Never was an issue on previous devices. Dropped my Atrix in a parking lot and nothing. Got my screen protector, so I'm going to throw that on when I get back to my hotel. Hopefully it'll mask the scratch.

Yeah I dropped my old Droid a lot. Outside had a couple scratches, but glass never.

Have one ding on the plastic of my GNex where I dropped it on the sidewalk one day. Dropped it so hard the phone shut off. And so yeah there's a little scuff on the side, but the screen is still perfect though.

Just felt the floor by my desk and it's kind of gritty. I think that's what ended up doing it. Makes sense considering I'm at a facility that's on the coast and still somewhat under construction. Got sand on my shoes and that ended up on the floor.

My N7 got scratched too. I've never managed to scratch any of my smartphones or tablets before.

It was in the breast pocket of my suit jacket, apparently alone, so I have no idea how it happened. It lives in a case now, which is a real shame for such a compact device.

4x AA on the Nexus 10.

I tried it with Need for Speed MW but it burped and turned it off. The game still runs amazingly with only a few stutters.

Nexus 4 has working LTE on two Canadian carriers.
