That was a nerfed version? Sheesh, I spent a good 30-40 minutes reloading the saved game to beat him. Annoying because once you get to him you really don't have an opportunity to drink potions which I think would have made it a little more manageable. Had to beat him without the benefit of potions, altars, or wep enhancements.

Not pleasant.

Don't feel bad. I spent about twice that amount. I'm not sure how I actually beat him... Can you change the difficulty mid-game in this game? The only other game I've ever done that with was Dragon Age 2. I'll let you take 1 guess what boss that was for.

Err, Act 2 rock-golem thingy?

I forgot about that guy. You just made me a liar. Yep, the rock golem thing, but also the Arishok. Man that game was unbalanced.

Rock golem was easy once you learned the gimmick. Arishok was dumb because you were dueling in a party based combat game. GG if you made your main hero a support type.

Back to TW2. I didn't mind the lack of preperation time. It made it feel like more of Geralt's pure skill against the other guy's. I guess it just wasn't balanced well against his skill. :K

Ya I haven't played since being blocked by the Letho fight but that's the trend I see with Witcher 2: it's got balance and pacing issues but it's also got this undeniable coolness to it that keeps me coming back to it. At this rate I'll probably finish the game by the time the next gen consoles hit store shelves.

Well if you drop it to easy he can't parry your attacks so you can just stunlock him to death with light attacks

A few Witcher3 bits:

- Unnanounced dark fantasy title (Witcher 3?) is in more advanced stages than Cyberpunk 2077.
- Cyberpunk 2077 is the first in a series, both games are larger than The Witcher, both are multiplaform
- 2013 will be smaller stuff for CDP RED, no Witcher-caliber release
- Witcher for iPhone - too early to say anything, but not impossible

EDIT: missed some stuff:
- no Witcher for PS3 next year, they want TW on Playstation, but not current gen
- both TW3 and CP2077 will appear on next gen consoles

So, 2014 or later

Good grief. Finally decided to install this this weekend after grabbing it on that sale back in the summer. Downloaded 16gb or so of files from Gog leisurely this afternoon. Then the install checked integrity and took forever (30-45min) to install. Then I tried to run it, and patch... and patch... and patch. 3 times.

Makes me really wish I had got the Steam version. :p

Anyway I seem to be ready to play at least. Might take a stab at it this week. Just voicing my annoyance with GoG a bit for now.

I do always find it strange that companies don't offer the latest game client for initial download.

Enjoy the game, it's a flawed gem, but I love it madly.

As much as I like TW2. And I really do like it. I actually prefer TW1. It's difficult to put into words why. Just the look of the game and how it handles and the rhythm combat.

I much preferred the combat in TW1, I wish they had developed it for the sequel rather than throwing the baby out with the bathwater. I also really liked the personal nature of the story.

The pacing was so whack though I struggle to recommend it to people.

They did a new version of the base download when v3.0/EE came out.

Agreed that TW1 to TW2 wasn't a positive on all things, although I think for many aspects it was an either/or decision. TW1 had a bit of breathing space in it, and you get parts like chapter 4 (lake) which seems a bit weird for a while, but after it's had time to develop I think the story needed it. I think as they push the overarching story to Nilfgard/Yenn it'll be harder for them to take those breaks.

I had an old TW1 save from partway through chapter 2 that I kept telling myself I needed to finish off before getting into TW2, but I just couldn't bring myself to get back into it... so I started TW2 Friday night. I burned through the prologue pretty quickly, and I think I'm about halfway through Act 1 now.

My bank storage is overflowing with stuff that I've collected -- please PLEASE tell me that it will magically transport to whatever the next area is in Act 2.

It will.

Excellent. I can rest easier now, at least in that regards.

I still have to figure out my skill tree allocation, though, and I think that's going to involve some tough decisions.

I'm only a few hours in at this point, but so far my only issue with TW2 is that the difficulty gap between normal and boss fights is just too wide. I stumbled across the spider things last night and figured what the heck, I'll give it a try. After wading through the soldier spiders and whatnot like they were nothing, the first queen appeared and I could barely hurt her. Clearly there's an intended strategy to the fight, but it was still surprising to see that I didn't have a chance just by dodging around and swinging my sword. That definitely wasn't the case in TW1.

That's true. I just had to download 3.1, 3.2, 3.21 or something like that. Small patches at least.

That's exactly my situation. I tried a couple times since 2010 or whenever I was first playing the first game to pick it back up, but just never could get back into it. So might as well try the 2nd.

Yep, I'm stuck on that fight as well. I managed to clear the Scoia'tael and the Wraith "group boss events", after NUMEROUS attempts and TONS of consumables expended, though... My extremely lame strategy:

Spoiler:

Kite them around and fling Igni signs and Grapeshot bombs back at them... and start the fight with as many potions/magic circle buffs as possible.

Yes! Join me! We can regale everyone with our tales of conquest, and conquests of tail!

In regards to the spider boss, I did it with a copious use of:

traps.

Well I ran the tutorial and one prologue quest last night. And I still feel like a clumsy idiot, fumbling my way around combat. The tutorial recommended Easy for me, so I stuck with that. This thing just hasn't "clicked" for me and I'm not sure it will. But I'll try to give it a couple more hours later.

I was also recommended Easy, but I disregarded and set it to Normal. I'm also using a 360 controller -- it feels very natural to play with that.

Huh. Never thought of that, but I guess this game got console-friendly controls. Might be worth a try.

Oh yeah, controller is the way.

Huh. Last time I tried with my controller, it seemed really lagy. Ended up going back to the keyboard and mouse.

Oh, and yeah, I need to get past the 2ish hour mark in this game. It's been way too long for me not to have finished this already.

Has anyone tried doing the arena to get into fighting shape, and just continuing after the first defeat to try things out?

Me too but late last month I did another play through and the controller worked great.

I did when it was first released. Pretty fun if you like the combat. Neat idea. I didn't get very far and I don't think I ever figured out how to buy or sell things.

The impression I got was that it was biased towards just fighting, and they don't give you much money early on. I guess that kind of conflicts with the singleplayer side where that is how you develop Geralt, and that they spend a decent amount of time telling you how the shop/mercenaries work. It might have been better if they sent you in for 3 rounds and then give you a breather to introduce you to commerce.

Yes! Me too, me too! The first one's still on my list to do someday, but I just dove into 2 and barely came up for breath until I'd finished it. What a game! And what a soundtrack!

//edit//
Ack. What have I done wrong with the quoting? Sorry about that. Just got off the banana boa -- err, I mean I just joined today and clearly have not figured ANYTHING out.

The quoting thing happens to coffee grinders who haven't made very many posts. Don't sweat it. I forget how many posts/days you have to be a part of the community before the restriction lifts.

I got w2 in the last steam sale and last night I finally started playing.
I didnt get that far actually. I just finished the bad tutorial. I don't understand the logic behind the keyboard layout unless I could grow a third hand that is.
I'll try it again with an xbox controller though.
The game looks amazing and looks so fun if I can just get around the controls and also the camera.

Also I alt+tabbed during the game and forgot I was still running the game Now my steam statistics is messed up. 8hours of gameplay and I only finished the tutorial XD

The game plays really well with an XBox controller. I haven't tried mouse & keyboard, but it seems like it would be awkward. Compared to Witcher 1, it's weird how different potion use is. They don't last nearly as long, so it's a lot more situational. I was distracted a few hours in by the new shiny games, but will definitely get back to this one at some point.

I played the first couple hours with a keyboard and got bogged down. After a few months I came back to it with an XboX controller, rocked that game, and it was my best game of 2012.

I've been making do with M/KB but maybe i'll have to give the controller a try. I'm only near the start of chapter 1 so I haven't done too much.
