Planetside 2 Catch-All

I'm debating whether or not to use the same name for all my characters and tag them NC, TR etc. Or just three different names. The first option is a little tacky but no one would recognize my other characters if I call them something new.

I suspect all three characters are going to have a different friends list too, that would be a pain in the ass. We should just compensate by making a steam group, unless we have one already.

It's kinda neat how the factions and their motivations are really up for interpretation. For the Terran Republic, New Conglomerate, and Vanu Sovereignty, respectively, they are:

Positive description: Order, Freedom, and Science;
Negative description: Fascism, Anarchy, and Zealotry;
Force Alignment: (Red) the Dark Side, (Blue) the Light Side, and (Purple) the Fabulous Side.

That doesn't stop them from coming together for DEATHCART RACING

Lord that's brillant. It would be great if they could implement game mission/type like that.

Or even just special events. Wouldn't be too hard to run. All you really need is admin chat.

Didn't see this posted, there are going to be multiple east, west and Euro servers.

US West:
Connery
Genudine

US East:
Mattherson
Waterson

EU:
Woodman
Miller

Australia:
Briggs

Each server can hold 6,000 concurrent players right?

Will they have weapon testing preview in at launch?

They said so. I'm not going to spend a dime on things I can't try out beforehand. So I hope there will be ways to directly compare different weapons. And I really wish they would give us more detailed stats.

That's it? Sounds rather low. Since this game is FTP there is no barrier to entry and I can see them filling up the population cap in a snap.

We should probable do an updated spreadsheet or something. Put what server and fraction we want to play on launch.

Good point, I created a new tab on the spreadsheet for launch information. I also included an outfit column, since so many people have been joining one or another.

Thanks for doing that!

The one Saturday night I have time to play games this game is down

Think that's what he meant

Looking forward to launch, make sure you delete your beta install!

Any news on the uninstaller? Hopefully they can just implement it into the release version of the launcher, it would just have to look for and delete everything before beginning the new download. I just tried to uninstall and I also get the 1001 thing.

Official server of the Vanu Quantum Dawn outfit is WATERSON (east)

If you want to be a part of that outfit along with a handful of other Goodjers, create a Vanu character on that server.

Are there any sites that you guys recommend for reading up about the classes and certs?

I'd recommend you try Planetside Universe. They've been around since the original and there's all kinds of stuff there.

Still no word on that uninstaller. The main site is down too, it's just a countdown page.

Thanks Bear.

So they expect everyone to download tomorrow? No preload?

I know... Not only can we not preload but all of us can't even uninstall the beta!

Yeah that's insane especially because everyone is re downloading. It's like 14 gigs or something. I hope I'm wrong but this seems like it's going to be a messy launch. Also I heard, unverified, that the installer will check for the beta and remove it. Which would be nice if true.

I was hoping to start the download while I'm sleeping, but sadly it seems like it unlocks when I'm at work already.

Step 1 - Highlight the Planetside 2 Beta folder in explorer.
Step 2 - Press the Delete key.
Step 3 - Profit!

The problem is that does leave stuff behind (registry, user files, etc), and could conflict with the game. Otherwise I'd copy my beta files over to save time. Still it might be the only option, which is kind of pathetic.

Actually, SOE games are all pretty much the same in that they live entirely in their own directory. Sometimes you'll see Launchpad files referenced elsewhere, but that's because they use the same program with a variety of skins as a loader/patcher for the various games.

I plan on doing my Win 7 reinstall when I'm working at home tomorrow. Will get Planetside 2 installation right after.

Hi all you peoples. I rarely visit the forums much these days because, well, family and what not. But I'm checking in because I am too busy to pour through the 250+ messages since the last time I visited this thread.

My greatest lament with the ticking-countdown is the dropping of the forums (no doubt already discussed). Whatever. Some of my outfitmates did some snooping to figure out which of our old outfit-chums are going on what server.

It would appear that we (Section 8) are going to be on the Connery (West Coast) server along with some old groups we used to run with. I don't know which server the GwJ Clan is going to use (and I bet it's East coast), but I figured I'd peek in and try to find that out.

Can't wait for tomorrow. Everybody have fun.

There ~are~ some files left behind in c:\user\\AppData\LocalLow\SonyOnlineEntertainment - but you can delete those by hand, just like you delete the program folder. Easy peasy.

Also, No Nonsense Gamers will be representing the Vanu Sovereignty on USEast Mattherson.

With Quantum Dawn on the other US East server, we'll have all your US East needs covered for the Vanu.

Don't forget to update the google spreadsheet if you haven't done so. All the info is in the OP.

Smedley said that they have a pretty robust CDN set up and 25 servers staged. Sounds like they did some prep work, lets see if it's enough.
