Wii U Catch-All

It's got a port for the Sensor Bar although I don't remember if Motion+ uses that. I expect the bigger reason is that they want to phase out the older remote technology and this is a good/convenient time to force the switch.

The Wii u comes with a sensor bar.

Yeah it's not like M+ remotes on the Wii suddenly didn't need the bar.

Technically you don't need Motion Plus, but some of the games (including some of the Nintendo Land minigames - I think 3?) require it.

Sorry if I missed this: How big a deal is deluxe versus basic version?...there are many basic versions locally but no deluxes.

Depends on your perspective. With the deluxe you get a system stand, a gamepad cradle, a gamepad charging cradle, Nintendo Land (quite good), and enrollment in Nintendo's Deluxe Digital promotion (10% back on digital purchases essentially) for two years, and 32GB storage instead of 8. That's what the extra $50 gets you.

Worth pointing out that Nintendo Land retails for $50. No idea how much the other items cost.

Nintendo Land is $60!

Right, forgot Nintendo finally embraced the "HD Tax". Still! My point stands: Deluxe is the better value.

Seems so odd then for a company that is obviously making some Apple store inspired decisions to sell a limited storage version for only $50 less. And, the 32GB is so much harder to find. If I was Nintendo, I would say here are oodles of storage! Now buy all our digits!

I received Mass Effect 3 from Gamefly today. I intentionally skipped it and Darksiders 2 on the 360 so I could try them out on the WiiU. I put about an hour into ME3. It has an interactive comic that walks you through the first two games and lets you make all of the major choices you would have normally made during the game. I chose all of the same choices I made when playing them on the 360 and then the main story began.

It looks good and plays well with the WiiPad. I haven't noticed any performance issues and I really like the map and squad powers on the controller pad. They aren't a game changer, but very convenient.

At least they allow you to add an SD card or an external hard drive.

Any USB hard drive?

System currently recognizes drives up to 2 TB in size. They confirmed a future firmware update will allow it to recognize larger drives, but you're still limited to 2 TB in that situation.

They're also recommending non-Flash drives due to rewrite cycles. I forget if that recommendation includes SSD drives or not.

Anyone know if you can still buy the Motion+ add-on for older Wiimotes and if it's even worth it? I have multiple Wiimotes and was quite annoyed to find out that you basically need the Motion+ in order for them to be of significant use on the WiiU. I'd really rather not have to replace them.

They're still available. Amazon has them for $16 new, originally they were $20. Of course, Canada is a strange and mysterious land.

Anyone that has ZombiU: Drop what you're doing and go make yourself into a zombie in the bonus section of the main menu. Then move your face around, stick your tongue out, etc. So weird and dumb.

GiantBomb videos of the livestream are up if anyone is interesting in the full coverage

System hooked up and downloading the OS. Good time to make dinner.

Well, good news is that I'm bidding on one of these on eBay, and with less than a day to go it is still below MSRP. I'm sure I'll get outbid, but I'm taking this thread's advice to heart; I won't pay about the asking price.

Something's off about the right stick aiming in ZombiU. Adjusting the sensitivity doesn't help. The problem is, sometimes when I am looking side to side I skew up a little. I think this is because I'm so used to the off-set right analog stick on the 360 controller. :S

Still, the actual gameplay is really intriguing. Definitely takes the phrase "survival horror" very seriously. So seriously they scrawled it in blood on the floor next to your bed.

Also, some Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate screens from the HD Wii U version. Hot goddamnit I want this game today.

Demyx, shoptroll, RE: Epic Mickey... 16:00 mark. Keep it in the shrink wrap!

Supposedly, Target got quite a few, and since they really didn't tell anyone that they had them, they still have them.

To be fair, I don't remember seeing Demyx trying to shoot thinner and spin the camera at the same but I didn't watch her play all the way through the game. A shame they didn't optimize for the Wii U though Really thinking the multiplatform development sunk that game.

I just picked up a Basic from target, they had two left. Several other stores in my area were showing in-stock, but don't take that as gospel, since the online inventory is not updated to reflect store inventory in real time.

Another tear down: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6465/n...

GPU is a derivative of AMD's current 7000 series, and the system sips from the outlet: ~30W while playing NSMB U!

I'm shoptroll on the network. Certis, you might want to rename the user profile label since Nintendo Network is supposed to roll out to the 3DS as well sometime in the near future.

Hi all. Is anybody having issues with Netflix? It was working yesterday but now isn't working right. I get sound out of my tv but no video. I can see the menus with no trouble but once I start watching a video it stops. If I swap the video to the game pad it works fine. I do see the progress indicator get to about 10% before the video cuts out. I am using the packed in had I cable that came with the system and my tv is running at 1080p.

Any help would be greatly I appreciated as this is starting to get annoying! Thanks!

shoptroll, I sent you a friend request. Let me know if you accept it reactively like you would a request on 360, or if you have to specifically type out my name as well.

Haven't seen a notice as well, but we're waiting for Nintendo Land to finish updating.

System music is incredibly Brian Eno / Spore for some reason.

Also, 00:10 apparently means 10 minutes to download instead of 10 seconds. This is an important distinction :/

Hmm, the longest one I've had was about 3 minutes. Anyway, I got a FR from someone else, it prompted me to view it when I went to the friend list icon from the home menu (while playing NSMBU). So it'll tell you, but it won't interrupt what you're doing to do so.

It will tell you, but you have to send it through the wiiverse by looking up that person's profile. There's a friend request button there. I've noticed it is disabled for some people I have looked up. I assume that is a setting that can prevent random friend requests.
