Amazon Prime 2012 - 2013

So I register for Amazon Prime every year and usually share my Amazon prime account with 4 other "Family" members.

This year I've had 2 people drop off with my membership. So I thought I'd ask the GWJ community to see if anyone wanted prime membership for 2012-2013.
This get's you basically 2 day free shipping or $2.99 next day shipping on any Amazon Prime eligible item.
The membership is $79.00 a year so I split it 4 ways, $19.75 per person.

If anyone is interested, PM with your E-mail address and birthdate (that's what amazon uses for membership to prime?) I will accept Paypal.

Thanks!

I didn't realize this was possible.

Prime members under a free trial or paid subscription can share their shipping benefits with up to 4 additional family members living in the same household, or up to 4 coworkers to shop for the related account. Other Prime membership benefits such as Prime instant video and the Kindle Owners' Lending Library can't be shared.

I figured this meant that any shared accounts had to ship items to the same address, or have the same billing address, or something else along those lines. I'm guessing that this isn't the case? Are there any restrictions on the shared accounts in how they use the prime shipping benefits and where they ship whatever they're ordering? It seems like this is something that's technically possible but may not be in the spirit of what they intended.

I'm not judging, I'm just curious. We have a prime membership that we'd love to be able to share with some (non-same-household) family members.

Interesting idea. There are certainly a number of benefits with Prime.

Seems like a slippery slope.
I'm sure Amazon, like other subscription-based services like Netflix take this type of alliances into account. Just seems too much into the gray moral area for my comfort.

Good luck, though.

I've never had any issues in the 2 years I've been sharing these benefits. There are tons of posts on CAG and Fat Wallet for sharing Prime benefits. I can't imagine Amazon isn't aware of them in some way. I think the selling point for them is try to get as many people hooked on Prime Service as possible.

The shipping pays for itself quickly if you shop several times a year at Amazon. Hell mine pays for itself just in Christmas and Birthdays.

It's legit to share prime memberships. I have my brother, mom, as well as daughter all using Prime. My daughter doesn't even live in the same state as me either. It's been years and I've never run into any issues.

Holy sh*t balls! Guess i will be getting a membership for me and the family. It will also get me to using my kindle fire a lot more in the process.

I leave my account logged in at friend's houses and once in a while they use Prime to watch Instant Video content, works just fine.

I've had prime for 3 years and didn't know this. I dropped my Costco membership in favor of a Prime membership. Now that I know others can use this, I'm sure I have plenty of co-workers who would share the cost of the membership with me.

Thanks for the info Randon and Sheazy.

I still have one spot open if someone would like it?

I would honestly take you up on it if I wasn't $20 shyer than I wish I was as it is, with Christmas and whatnot around the corner. If I had a Roku box I might be more tempted as well- Still, great value. When I had a Prime membership I actually purchased more from Amazon than I do now. Having to go up to $25 in order to get free shipping is sometime a bit of a deterrent to buy anything.

I am not sure I would put my account info into even a family member's PC much less a friends or strangers, what's to stop them from going into your and looking at your account info? Maybe I don't have a clear picture of how it works.

You still have your own separate Amazon account. He just plugs whatever email address you have associated with Amazon into his Prime account. I've added my wife and my parents to mine, but I don't have access to their accounts or purchase history or anything.

Potential thread hijack incoming:

If I only get one and the shipping benefits are a non issue for me... Netflix or Amazon Prime?

I had no idea about this. I'm going to go add my family to my account. Thanks Andon.

This also made Xmas shopping easier for my wife and I. I set up two accounts using our shared Amazon account so she can order me gifts we can order each other gifts in secret.

Is it just with Prime that you can set your account up like this? We ran into this issue not long ago. Wife wanted to order a gift for me, but jumped through a bunch of hoops to have something sent to her parents because she was afraid I would get the confirmation email.

Do the Prime benefits only apply to stuff sold directly by Amazon? It seems like whenever I'm looking at buying something from them, the seller ends up being third party. That's the biggest thing that has held me back from signing up, I'm not sure how often the shipping benefit would even apply to my orders.

I apparently still have a student membership as a I pay $40 a year and don't have the option to share with family.

Yes and no. I've bought things from third parties that had free Prime shipping. I'm not sure how it works.

However....

Since I've been riding the Prime train for several years now, I simply click the "Prime Only" filter when I'm searching for stuff.

If you do not have Prime, I would suggest using 2 Amazon accounts. For us, it was not only the confirmation email, but the recommended items all over Amazon from previous purchases and searches.
