NFL 2012 Week 11 Thread

Wow, the Chargers haven't had a 4th quarter comeback since early September 2011.

And they still don't.

I may be the only one but I love these Steelers throwbacks.

Pittsburgh Bumble Bees?

Uh, Leftwich ran for a TD. WTF?

I hope so. I don't want to imagine a world where two people like them.

I did not just see Byron Leftwich run for a TD. Cannot. Compute. Shutting. Down.

They are just so delightfully old school throwbacks to the black and white TV days.

The bumblebee tops are bad enough, but it looks like they're all not wearing pants. Well, white guys, not wearing pants. Black guys, afflicted with vitiligo and not wearing pants.

I picked the Steelers out of loyalty but they have a chance. I want to say I like the uniforms but they're not very good. I like the other throwbacks they wear.

I'm becoming ever less a fan of Mike Wallace. I kinda think that wasn't a catch, as the ball never settled into his arms.

Man, I'm waiting for Jacoby Jones to drop one, but...

Argh.

Chad Henne magic ran out by the 4th quarter. Once Watt and the rest of the defensive line figured out to put their hands up, it was all over. Henne couldn't get a pass past the line of scrimmage for most of the second half of the 4th quarter and overtime.

It was a good day on the stat sheet thanks to some long catch-and-runs broken by Shorts and Blackmon. Speaking of the latter, hey kid, nice of you to join the team. Getting demoted last week looks like it sparked something. That's how he was drafted to play, I sure hope it continues. (He must have had a great week of practice to earn his spot back, because he did nothing last week - I was surprised to see him line up at the Z spot full time).

I heard this was the first NFL game with two 200-yard receivers, Legion. Also heard the Texans are the first team in NFL history to score twice in overtime, but that can't be right, can it?

Remember 9 yr phenom Samantha Gordon - watch this video to see her juke Warren Sapp out of his socks - LINK

The overtime stat is silly... they are the first team because of the new rule.

You say that like it's an unusual thing.

Leftwich had 8 rushing TDs in the four years he played in Jacksonville. Evenly spread out 2 per year, in fact.

There's this misconception that Leftwich is (unusually, painfully) slow. Completely wrong. Leftwich is not slow. He ran a 4.85 40 at the Combine. What Leftwich is is not agile. Straight line, tuck the ball, stomp his way forward, Leftwich isn't slow for a classic pocket passer. (But it is horrifically ugly to watch)

Gronk with a broken forearm.

NNOOOOOOOOOOOO! (fantasy football concerns)

Fine, but he should not be allowed to get outside and run to the end zone. Never. Aim for his ankles!

I'm done with fantasy football. You honestly have to be a masochist to do this to yourself.

Of all the sports football is probably the most erratic especially when you factor in how fantasy football is scored.

I think I rather bang my head against a wall then attempt to pick who I'm going to start and sit.

As I said earlier, the crazy NFL overtime rules (still crazy after all these years) don't seem to work with my brain.

Seriously, having some regulation games just result in ties seems better than this system where the coin flip matters so much.

Does the coin flip matter much anymore? You can't win with a FG on the first possession anymore, which was always the criticism. Was Tampa was the first team this year to score a TD on the opening drive and end it instantly? Seems to me it still winds up with a FG, then the other team gets a shot. I like the new system.

Yeah there have been maybe 10 OT games under the new rules. One last year's playoffs, and however many we've had this season.

The coin flip doesn't matter as much, that's the point of the change. At this point the coin flip matters more in college, where the defense gets to play first and get a stop to win.

God, a horrible game. Inclined to agree with Collinsworth: if Leftwich can't throw competitively, it's better that Batch comes in even if he's more about management than explosive offense.

Last week's ESPN ticker or whatever after the game said that Batch was likely to start this week. I was pretty surprised when I heard different this week.

Huh? The college guys have to get a stop from what, their own 30? The NFL defenders have the entire field to try and get a stop!

I understand the benefit of going second in college, but at least both teams are guaranteed the ball. Tim Tebow sudden death in the playoffs is insane.

I miss when they kept playing real quarters until someone was ahead at the end of one. Never coming back I know, but to me that's real goddamn football.

I hate OT in college period, what they do now is a travesty of the game - that ain't football only something that sorta kinda resembles football. What the NFL does now is only slightly better.

I like college football's plan better than what the NFL does, although starting at the 50 would be better than the 25. I don't like starting in FG range.

But the best really would be full quarters until you have a winner at the end. There is just no way that TV execs would go for that.

Yeah, when TV started really running the NFL and college ball, that's when I started my long slow tune out of football. Which is sad because I love the game so much. But this year I think I've watched a total of a game each of the NFL and college on TV (granted, the TV situation in my house is messed up at the moment, making this surprisingly easy to do - however, the state of the game has not motivated me to fix my TV situation either).
