David Petraeus Steps down from D/CIA

I think Malor's got a good point. The surveillance state has been established, at least electronically, below the radar of most citizens. This is just a small indicator of what can be done with it, and yet it's not raising questions of process, information security or oversight. That will bite us in even worse ways, eventually.

I think someone in the DCI's position who is intimately involved with people who are engaged in lying to the public and to those around them should take flak for that. Would we think differently if Broadwell was running a pyramid scheme that duped socialites and generals out of millions? We shouldn't. Character is important in these positions, in my opinion, especially because they are essentially licensed to break the law in various ways.

So the surveillance, while mishandled, probably did us a favor as a country. But the question remains - given that it's technically possible and in place, how should it be used, who should be able to task it, and who watches the watchers? We need to have that discussion as a country.

If you want to go into it, post in the police state thread, or start a new one. But in this case, it's applicable to the discussion to ask whether it was abused or properly used to gather info about Petraeus.

Who knew?

WHO KNEW?

Apparently, unbeknownst to me and everyone else, it is partially my fault that Gen. Petraeus had an affair.

Retired U.S. General William Boykin sat down to have a chat with the Family Research Council's own Tony Perkins and said it's really the gays fault that Gen. Petraeus and other straight guys are having affairs:

GENERAL BOYKIN: What you’re seeing is, you’re seeing a declining morality in our military. I would tell you, Tony, that I believe that that is very deliberate. I think the military has been targeted by the left. I think it’s been targeted, ah, largely by the gay and lesbian lobby, ah, but also by other elements of the left to bring the military down because the military has been a bastion of morality and ethics. It’s been the anchor of our society for a very long time and you can’t change our society completely until you lower the, ah, standards of the military and bring them down. That is what we’re seeing here.

TONY PERKINS: So General, let me be clear. The, what we see here, this rash of general officers that have been brought down through scandal, sex scandal, you believe this is a reflection of a declining moral standard within the military as a whole.

GENERAL BOYKIN: I do think that is the case, Tony. I think that this is, ah, concrete evidence.

You would think with that much power, I would have a better paying job.

Band of Boners

The Petraeus scandal widens to include another general and shirtless FBI agent, so John Oliver believes the military's only solution is banning non-gays.
...because the military has been a bastion of morality and ethics.

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha... oh god, I can't breathe.

Ok, I'm good now. Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Gen. Boykin has always been a few bullets short of a full clip.

There is something I do not have the time to investigate now. But maybe if this thread is still kicking in a few weeks I will.

I am curious as to if under FOIA the director of the FBI, CIA, etc. can carry on private e-mail conversations. I know that the president cannot/should not. During his tenure everything he says is public record. California went through some of a row when under their state statute certain members of various city counsels were using yahoo and hotmail to conduct back room conversations in secret.

Didn't Palin get dinged for that back in 2008 when her personal email account was hacked? I think states are struggling to determine the whole private email account thing. I know in Alaska's case their state Supreme Court said that private emails could be considered an official communication and be subject to open records laws, but there are some restrictions.

If you really want to hide something, you can simply go the Romney route and have your staff purchase the hard drives of the computers as they're leaving office and then "accidentally" erase all the emails from the server leaving no records behind. Or just conduct all your business over texts since texts currently don't meet the legal definition for an official communication.

I would think with that much power, you might be miffed that all you can manage is to get dudes to sleep with ladies. Some gay agenda that is.

Listen, gay dudes apparently wreck the military and cause hurricanes. Can we stop pissing off them gays now? I mean, let 'em get married and stuff, or they'll continue to use their almighty evil gaysexin powers to destroy us all.

WE SURRENDER, HOMOSEXUALS, YOU HAVE CLEARLY WON THIS WAR.

We are on our knees, supplicated, begging.

You will welcome your gay overlords.

WELCOME US NOW!

Or else...

Chintz draperies in every room! And man mani-pedis every week... over sherry.

(You have been warned!)

That sounds like an episode of Frasier.

I am willing to try sherry, the chintz might be a bit much.

My new dog broke my blinds while I was out once, so I could use some drapes...

Well, given enough sherry...

Wait. When the gays finally take over fully up here in Canada, do we male breeders get style and/or fashion genes automagically implanted? My wife and kids would probably appreciate it.

The gays maed me double post?!

Maybe 'the gays" haven't locked down Canada yet, but they sure have taken over this unrelated thread.

Hey, it wasn't me that said that the gays caused Petraeus to have an adulterous affair.

I am just capitalizing my new-found power.
