Don't Starve!

I don't understand how "saved games" work in this game. When I quit it tell me unsaved progress will be gone or something like that . Is the day/night cycle a save mechanism?!

And... enabled.

I would like to thanks Meatman who gift me a copy.

And I'm tagging, as I will try to play a little of this (Maybe more) over the week-end.

Game is saved at the start of each day from what I witnessed.

The game is saved at sundown and sunup.

Since you get two copies with steam, anyone want to split it?

How are we on spoilers here? I didn't even read a single post for fear of blowing some discovery for myself, but I'll read the response to this one. A friend gifted me the game and he and I are loving it. I just Steam chatted this morsel:

"I need 10 pieces of cow sh*t stat!"

My Wilson might eat his own beard. Don't judge him harshly.

MOTHER*****R!!!!! (sorry) I accidentally burned down my entire berry farm I meticulously planted! sh*tsh*tsh*tsh*tsh*tsh*t!

Spoiler:

My freakin's sleeping bag is a one-time use object? Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

PS: I love this game.

After very careful play and 12 days of survival I got attacked by

Spoiler:

some freaky tree ent thing

while harvesting trees around my campfire.

Spoiler:

A TREE ENT FROM TREES I PLANTED AS PART OF MY REFORESTATION!

. I was kiting him around the ring of light and got the "What's that?" text pop-up then was insta-gibbed. No idea what lurks in the dark.

32 days in.

The forest. The rocks.

I must feed.

I know that feel. I'd amassed some 30 berry plants into a little farm only to be attacked by an ent while foraging cords of wood. In my escape I placed down a camp fire to light him up, my folly was running for safety beyond my plantation. Not one plant was saved and the ent continued the chase until daybreak. I avoid trees like the plague now.

Those ents are bastards. I went through 2 full logshirts and 3 full axes, switching to a torch now and then to light it up as well... to no avail. Eventually it just killed me. Maybe now I have a spear I could do better, but not planning to.

How do you choose what plants to grow? Seeds just give random results, and if I remember right, it wouldn't let me plant berries or other full grown fruit/veggies.

My life was ended by an ent as well... I have just about everything but the hats and magic researched now. Magic is next. I'm coming for you ent!

Turkeys! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAArg.

Anyone know how to kill them?

Thanks to TheGameGuru for a copy of this. Now to find time to play it!

I'm not sure you can, yet. They always make me grin so I'm content to leave them be, or chase them fruitlessly.

The bastards keep stealing my berries!

Then I guess you'd be chasing them fruitfully?

You can kill Turkeys...

Spoiler:

you just need to herd them, by chasing them, into the edge of an island - get them into a little jagged edge and they won't be able to move forward and going backwards goes through you and your shiny spear.

You get a morsel and a drumstick. Take that, you berry stealing bastards!

Sweet. I am so setting one on fire.

I don't think you are supposed to fight in this game. Sure, you can build weapons and armor but I think that stuff helps you survive while you run like hell.

Yeah sleeping bags are a one-time use. The dev team wanted skipping the night to have some kind of drawback.

For Ents...

Spoiler:

I lured mine to the nearest pig town. Ent killed all the pigs there so free meat, but they must have put a decent dent in him because a few swings of my torch (which has a chance of setting the ent on fire) and he went down.

I like the fact this is in alpha state. My non-Goodjer friend and I are having a blast playing this across Steam chat. He plays way more loose than I do and is constantly dying but at the same time making a lot more discoveries I can benefit from.

I managed to kill an ent pre-armor using an ax and a campfire (I kept kiting him across it) in one of my earlier games. It took forever, but I've gotten pretty good at kiting spiders and the same principal applies.

In terms of general strategy advice/discussion:

Spoiler:

Has anyone else set up camp near tallbird nests? Those eggs are rather game-breaking for their many uses.

With regard to your spoiler: Oh really? Hmmmmm.

Well, by many I mean two. But the two are very good.

After a 48-day run, I can say I've maxed out pretty much what is here. I will definitely come back to it when the game's complete. A great experience that has kept me up to 3 a.m. for two nights.

Staying at my parent's place for the holiday weekend. Steam Cloud makes me a very happy gamer away from his main machine. Time to to finally build the Alchemy Engine!
