Jib. Gib (to me) refers to the body parts left of a video game character that's been exploded. Apparently gib can refer to a castrated male cat or ferret, so I suppose you could like the cut of one's gib to, but that seems mean.

Ludicrous jibes!

Can anyone suggest a formula to use when deciding whether it's best to rent a game or to buy it?

I rent films and games from a Netflix-style company in the UK. I pay £20 per month and don't have to pay late fees. For that I can have four DVDs at home at once. I can rent as many games and films as I want, but I'm limited by the time it takes to return and receive discs by post.

I'm trying to figure out if I should rent Black Ops 2 or buy it. It's £40 in the UK. If I hold onto the disc I'm kind of paying £5 a month to rent it. To buy BLOPS2 costs £40.

My friends will probably play BLOPS2 all year. I can imagine playing it for several months with them at least.

Thoughts? I've got a blindspot on this one. Normally I can work this stuff out.

There are two ways to look at the problem.

a) It "costs" £5 per month to rent the game. The game costs £40. If you're going to play it for more than eight months, buying it will be cheaper. Sort of.

b) You're going to pay £20 per month for the DVD service anyway. Therefore the real "cost" of renting the game is not £5 per month - which was already going to come out of your pocket - but the fact that you will only be able to have three other DVDs out on loan. You'll have to judge for yourself, based on your own usage and situation, how important it is to be able to have four DVDs out, and if it's worth it to only be able to trade three of them around for a while while you're messing around with Black Ops with your friends.

I've done goofed. I strongly believe I accidentally threw out a full version of Win 7 - box, disc, manual and all - into the trash along with some other stuff. F**k a d**k.

Mind you, this is for my overpowered netbook. My main PC still has its Win 7 disc - thank God.

What are my options? Can I get a new disk? Can I create a back-up disc that will always help me? Will Microsoft send me a new disk because I've already registered with them?

The discs are just discs, the only thing that *really* matters is the product key. If you don't still have that handy, it is apparently nowadays encrypted in the registry, so you'll have to download a tool to extract it.

Dang. That was fast. Thanks Ranger Rick! I installed Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder and it found the keys I wanted instantly. As soon as I booted it up actually. You saved my bacon and spared me a beatdown from my wife for losing a $200 product.

which versions of the alien movies should I watch? I picked up that anthology set while it was on sale for twenty-bucks and having never seen anything more then the occasional clip of that scene with the chestburster, I was wondering if I should watch the directors cut or theatrical versions? I've heard the directors cut is a must for three but I don't know if that's true for the others. (although I hear the forth isn't that good either way)

Weren't you switching to a new avatar icon?

Strangeblades wrote:

What do you mean? This was the one a was switching too.

The theatrical version of Alien, the director's only made the "director's cut" because the studio wanted him to, he considers the theatrical version the correct one.
The director's cut of Aliens, it adds some actual back story for the colony, and fleshes out Ripley's character much better.
The director's cut of Alien 3 makes more sense, but the theatrical version is easier to watch. The director's cut includes scenes that were cut really early on, so some look really bad, some have hard to hear dialog, and some have no sound at all.
The director's cut for Resurrection is better than the theatrical version, but either way you're stuck with the stupid human/alien hybrid ending.

Huh. Sorry then. Weird. I coulda sworn you switched to a new fox image from the Oglaf comic.

No I just cut off the black lines and reduced the size of the image so it wouldn't look so blown up. I thought about about trying on the one from the T-shirt but since you had just you used it for your avatar I figured I'd stick with this one for a while, plus the smile on this one really speaks to the black void that is my soul.

It's weird, cause this is what I see.

I'm looking for a crashy racing PC game that I can play split-screen with my wife. Anybody have any ideas?

CTRL+F5, Strangeblades.

I did that. Ctrl F5. It just reloaded this page. This is not a racing game.

Do creatures with a primary olfactory sense have a different concept of time, and or, the present?

If you thing about it, our "right now" is very slim sliver in a timeline. We experience what is here right now because we use light to perceive it.

A dog at the same place knows what is there now, but also what was there a few hours ago; and probably has a sense if what was here most recently.

If one were writing sci fi or fantasy, this could make more interesting adversaries.

Anyone have any good experiences with mp3 file auto-taggers for Mac or Windows? I owe someone a favor for helping to fix my car and he wants me to help him sort out his music collection. I plan to replace anything that I have with my versions but this could leave a few hundred albums needing to be tagged since we have only a bit of overlap in musical tastes. Something that compares the actual audio to an online db of some kind is what I am looking for since there is no rhyme or reason to his file names or folder structures (if there was I have tools for that).

Right-click on IHateDrm's avatar and find the equivalent of "View Image" in the context menu of the browser you use. When you see just the image, then do CTRL+F5.

Woah. My mind, it is blown. Ouch. What the hell just happened? Is it magic? You can tell me if it's magic.

You could try MusicBrainz, but without file names you might find yourself stuck with a lot of false positives.

image caching is what the hell just happened.

Nuh uh. Magic. I have it on good authority.

S'true, image caches are sufficiently advanced technology.

I haven't used my PS3 in a very long time. As a result, the controllers are completely dead. On top of that, I can't seem to get them to take a charge, even using the stock PS3 cable. Any suggestions?

Do they work when plugged in?

I think the front USB ports on my PS3 are dead. I charged it on my PC, and all is well now. Frustrating, but livable. The console shows no other signs of issues.

I purchased a separate charging stand for my controllers. I really appreciate it, it also means I can easily charge 3 at once (two in the stand, 1 in the PS3)
