Persona 4 Golden Catch-All

Yeah, you can find a comparison video on youtube I think between Retribution and the previous two games. The dialog is exactly the same it just has less... life in it. What a waste.

They've also added a new social link from what I recall, though I don't know which persona type it would be for.

They either couldn't get the original voice actors/actress or they couldn't hammer out a new contract for the game.

Also possibly swapped to match the voice actors for the Persona 4 anime's localization dub.

And they will match the English voice work in Persona 4 Arena.

There's a link with Tohru of the Pierrot arcana, and a brand new character, Marie, for the Aeon arcana. (if the giant bomb page is correct)

I can't wait for Golden to be released; I'm going for the digital version. I got Persona 3 portable for 10 bucks on the PSN Atlas sale a couple of months ago and am currently playing through it for the first time. It's brilliant! I still don't really know how long to wait to create new personas given that they will be stronger depending on your social links.

It makes me smile to see Edogawa is back. I wonder if they explain why moved from Tatsumi Island to Yasogami High.

First time through? Just create whatever you feel like whenever. You'll probably want to do a save game plus anyway to see the storylines you missed and/or go through as the opposite gender of what you selected this time around.

Certain equipment and accessories changes your party member's appearance, much like in Persona 3 FES and Persona 3 Portable. This equipment goes in a different slot and does not affect the party's stats.

The ability to choose which skills can be inherited by the persona you are fusing.

The ability to call for help via Wi-Fi when your party reaches critical status.

These three things caught my attention. In order:

Battle panties without the reduced armor?

Choose what you inherit? This made Devil Survivor 2 feel VERY rewarding.

I'm very curious about the call for help on WiFi. Does this mean someone else gets to answer the call?

This preview article on Joystiq makes me really excited. The thought bubble thing is a great idea.

Click on the "Voice" button and a myriad of thought bubbles will fill the screen, revealing actions other players have taken at that point in the game (see the image below).

Just got P4:Arena to tide me through the last few days of waiting

Two months ago I had never played a persona game. Then I played P3P. To think that P4 Golden would end up being the game for which I'm marking days on my calendar in 2012... The world is not allowed to end until I've had a chance to play through it. Just a couple of days, folks!

I just marathon-ran through P3Portable to prepare.

It's okay. I have Persona, Persona 2, and Strange Journey on the backburner.

Also, the AtlusUSA YouTube Channel has uploaded dozens of videos by now to show off some of the new features. I only watched a few so that the game itself could surprise me properly. Some of them show more than I wanted to see.

How important is it to play other Persona games first? This will be my first one.

It's not.

Based on what I've heard, it helps to have played 3 and 4 before Arena. The story beats in the game continue the story of characters from both. However, P3 and P4 exist independent of each other.

I've been on a media blackout since they announced the new content. I did read the Game Informer review, which I immediately regretted because they ruined something for me. Typical GI review. :/

I thought that was a pretty blah review overall.

Good point, but if you play Arena before any other Persona game something is wrong with you.

The gold edition is selling on ebay for $130, anyone want mine?

Hmm, turns out I won't be going into the office on Tuesday to receive my copy. Maybe I'll just buy off PSN, return the physical copy to Amazon, and keep the pre-order bonus.

I'm stoked that Gamestop will have it for me on Tuesday. I start my new job next Monday so I have a week to mess around with whatever I want. The bonus here is that I'm traveling for training and will spend the next two weeks living in a hotel, which means I'll probably have even more time to mess around with my phone and Vita. P4 you came at a good time.

This is the time of year when I feel I'm never just hanging out at home. We're either driving somewhere, flying somewhere, or stuck in my lab trying to get ready for our holiday shut down. I have a feeling I'll log more Vita time than anything else through the end of the year, and 90% of that will be P4! Maybe I'll finish before the second Blu-ray of the anime is released in January. Now the question is whether Sony will get their store update done before I'm done with work on Tuesday. Considering it's also Vita Plus's introduction, I'm worried we'll see some problems.

Oy. For those who are getting it off of PSN be award it's over 3 gbs in size. For those of us getting hard copies there is an optional install feature but I don't know how much it installs.

The tradeoff in all this is that load times are practically nonexistent and there's 40% more spoken dialog.

That's really interesting that you won't get some spoken dialogue if you don't install it. I have 8.5 GB left after deleting some demos, so I'm golden. Muahahaha.

I don't think 3GB is too unusual. AC3 Lib is 2.6GB, Metal Gear HD is 3.3GB, Mortal Kombat is 3GB, etc. Looking at the store, most Vita games are between 2GB and 3GB, it's the PSN games or the rare outlier (Ultimate MvC 3 for example) that is only 1GB or less.

Yeah, that really is quite interesting. As broadband proliferates and as storage media continues to grow much faster than the capacity of DVDs (which, obviously, aren't growing at all :)), I wonder if this will become more common? Sound is notoriously difficult to compress to any great degree.

I didn't mean to imply that if you didn't do the install the game wouldn't have the spoken dialog, I meant that the game has 40% more spoken dialog than what the original PS2 version did, which made it a larger download. Sorry.

Ha! I suppose that makes more sense. So, did they get the original voice actors back in to do more voicework, or did they just add voices to characters that didn't have spoken dialogue in the PS2 version?

Mixture of both, I think, though Chie and Teddie have new VAs.
