Planetside 2 Catch-All

Hell yeah! Awesome, that's where I play, too bad I missed that.

I run with No Nonsense Gamers [NNG] - and they'll have an Outfit up and running on the server at launch. If you're planning to remain VS on US East, I can recommend them as a great group of really teamwork-oriented individuals.

We'd love to have ya.

Looks like we will be split between East and West. I very much wish characters were server independent.

I see NNG is east Vanu. What server is QD and faction?

We are in Thebe West in the Beta but who knows what server we will be on when the game is released. I would imagine an East server. We were on a west server because at the time of the outfit creation all the East servers were laggy as hell.

Just got word from the outfit leader that it will definitely be East Coast.

Also just got a message while playing that today's update will crush the major bugs people have been complaining about and also they will "do some crazy things" today. Day an night cycle is now 1 minute lol. It's going to be a fun last day to play.

Also, the preset performance packages are very nice because you have to spend less cert points.

Tempest - keep me up to date if you could. I am terrible with switching between sites. I went all in and picked up the Alpha Squad package because the promiseof the game seems huge with a good outfit. Not going to worry with the last day of beta, but will be ready to spend my T-giving shooting fools with QD.

New patch notes out, too long to list here. They also published some notes from a previous patch.

Infiltrator "hold breath" is now bindable to a key.

WHAT! I didn't know this was a feature! This explains my terrible sniping.

Yeah I didn't know about that for a long time, it does help but not that much honestly.

I hope you guys go Vanu east as well. Then that would seem to be the GWJ server for most of us. Also damn it another patch, more fixes and stuff are cool but it takes too long to download.

I hope they can move to a more efficient patch process, too.

Me: Hey, Planetside -- I think I'll play a bit more tonight.
Planetside: BRB, another 4GB download.

So we're all Vanu nerds now? Not TR fascist scum? Curse these divided loyalties!

Actually this is going to be weird. It's like we have to play three separate games with separate XP and everything. None of it carries over to your other two faction characters?

Yeah it's a really weird system. It's actually better to make junk account that you won't play just to get the free certs that you earn over time. Not to mention if you change servers or something you have to start over again...

Edit: damn there saying to remove the whole damn game after the beta is over and re download it. Guess I'll leave it on again.

Last day today! Went around pushing the NC and TR off of Esamir. I saved up some certs and got the 12x scope and the antivehicle grenades for testing.

- Sniping is a lot easier now. Holding your breath is crucial because it gives you a couple seconds of perfect accuracy. If you are using a bolt action this means boom headshot. If you are using a semi auto your aim will return to the same point after every shot.
- MAXs are frustratingly resistant to rockets. I can pop any vehicle except for a sunderor with one salvo of rockets, but MAXs are tiny targets and splash damage doesn't do jack to them. It can sometimes take 14 rockets to kill a soldier with rocket splash alone, MAXs are what, 5 times stronger?
- Headshots do nothing to MAX units that I can tell. At least that's what my sniping would seem to indicate.
- It is possible to headshot people with photon rockets. Heh.

The antivehicle grenades are the special grenades for Heavy Assaults. I got a bunch and tested them out on stuff.
- They have a huge damage radius and not much falloff. Just one of them will kill every equipment terminal in the room instantly. (oops!)
- Like all grenades they have a frustrating amount of bounce. It's very hard to get them to land where you want them to. If you just throw it directly at a tank it will bounce off and be wasted. You pretty much need to skip it off the ground and hope it lands close to the target
- Damage is comparable to a direct rocket hit. It seems to respect armour facing too. Probably does a number on MAX units but I wasn't able to test that.
- Damage to soldiers is reduced compared to frags, standing directly on one when it explodes will take out your shields and leave you with 60% health.

Headshots do affect MAXs they just have way more armor so it's harder to notice. If you get the drop on one and unload a clip into there head they go down fast. Also c4 instantly kill MAXs so I'd imagine they grenades to be pretty good too. The hole blowing console is really cool, that can change things a lot on offense.

So the beta does not uninstall correctly. Remember, the launch day client is completely different than the beta so you will need to re-download the game on Tuesday. Here is how to do a clean install:

Windows XP
Click Start, go to the Control Panel, then to Add/Remove Programs.
Select PlanetSide 2 Beta and click Uninstall/Change at the top of the window or right click PlanetSide 2 Beta and select Uninstall/Change.
Delete the PlanetSide 2 Beta file located here: C:\Users\Public\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games.
Finally, delete the file npsoeact.dll from this location: C:\Documents and Settings\(Your Account)\Application Data\Sony Online Entertainment.

Windows Vista/7
Click Start, go to the Control Panel, then under Programs select Uninstall a program.
Select PlanetSide 2 Beta and click Uninstall/Change at the top of the window or right click PlanetSide 2 Beta and select Uninstall/Change.
Next delete the PlanetSide 2 Beta file located here: C:\Users\Public\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games.
Finally, delete the file npsoeact.dll from this location: C:\Users\(Your Account)\AppData\LocalLow\Sony Online Entertainment.
Windows 8
The file system is exactly the same as Vista and 7, except for the location of the Control Panel. You can follow the same steps in the Windows Vista/7 section to uninstall PS2 once you're there.

To get to the Control Panel, move the mouse cursor to the top or bottom right side of the screen until a set of options appear. Once the options appear click on Settings and the Control Panel will appear. Alternately, just mouse over the area here the Start button used to appear and right click to see the Control Panel option.

After getting pushed around on the East server for what felt like hours by a coordinated NC effort involving six outfits (one of them a dev outfit apparently). I decided to switch to my old TR guy. It was fairly insane as the most of the pop for both TR and Vanu were fighting over HVAR. Higby was there and people were trying to kill him, but I think he might have been invulnerable. The Enclave was going insane in chat. Vanu took the point eventually and pushed TR to Quartz Ridge. Then I had to work last night so I couldn't stick around for the festivities.

I hadn't done much fighting at the new Quartz Ridge, but the redesign plays out a lot better and makes for an interesting fight.

Cannot wait for the launch. I've spent far too many hours the last few months playing this game and I'm kind of addicted. Hopefully QD and NNG pick the same East server so I can play with both groups.

Did it work for you? I still get error 1001 when trying to uninstall.

They seem to be working on an uninstaller for today or tomorrow. You can also manually do it.

Not all of us. I'm playing NC. Been running with Sturmgrenadier and those guys and gals are fantastic. They're pretty intense and focus on highly coordinated combined arms. We've spend a good portion of the beta training so we'll be ready for launch. What's really cool is they have a dedicated command staff. All these guys do is watch the map and then assign our squads and platoons based on what needs to be done.

It's a pretty awesome being part of a combined assault. There's something special about PS2 when you're pinned down in a base and you can call in for air or armor support! Can't wait for launch!

Well, I guess I'll finally get back to playing Dust 514 for a few days
I should have a ton of Skill Points available now.

The patches were big, but holy crap they downloaded really fast.

Interesting news, it seems they are planning to change how certs are gained on launch day:
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/11/17/soe-killing-planetside-2s-free-player-grind/

Basically they are going to make it faster and what not, but increase costs as well. Not sure why especially doing this without testing but hey whatever.

Seems like everyone is going to roll Vanu east, so I'll see you all there. Now to debate whether I should play now or just wait a few days...

edit: or the server is down or something, not playing for me

I'm gonna wait to see where everybody goes. Although, I will probably stick with my favourite class, the NC recon. I love that bolt-action rifle and being a sneaky-sneak.

You can buy a bolt action for the Vanu too, it's just not a default item. I actually prefer it, being a vanu weapon it has almost no bullet drop.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the Vanu. There weapons are too spacey. That's a word. Look it up. Anyhoo, I really dig the click-clack of the NC bolt action. Just so satisfying. Plus, I love lining up my shots, arcing my shots, etc.

One of us! One of us!

Are you an NC, brother?

We should probable do an updated spreadsheet or something. Put what server and fraction we want to play on launch.

I would prefer a west server but latency doesn't seem like a big deal.

Good point, I created a new tab on the spreadsheet for launch information. I also included an outfit column, since so many people have been joining one or another.

Signed up for the rebel faction! NC! NC! NC! NC!

I was a long time NC player (all through the original and most of beta) but it's hard to go back after taking a Scythe for a spin, or driving around a Magrider a bit. Looking forward to getting to play with some of the VS outfits, which I never really got around to looking up.

We will remember your name. It will be tattooed on the NC Wall of Shame.
